His secret identity is Bruce Wayne, not Batman. Wonder Woman's lasso of truth was tied around her hand, Superman's hand and Batman's hand. and said that on the count of three all of them would reveal each other's true identities to each other, Wonder Woman says she is Diana of Themiscyra, Superman says Kal-El and Clark Kent, Batman responds with Batman, this is his actual identity, Bruce Wayne is the act he puts up.

He is the superhero we all deserve, just not the one we need right now. So we will hunt for his imperfections and limitations. Because he can take it. Because he is not our hero. He's a silent gaurdian, a watchful protector. A dark knight....

Actually most Batman fans like him because of his limitations. He rolls with the Justice League. But nobody ever seems to pay attention to why. He's got no rivalry with Superman if anything they are great friends that make each other stronger. What Batman adds is uncanny detective skills, a high IQ and an ability to strategize. Hence in big events with wars and conflicts you'll find Superman brawling with big foes and Batman coordinating the League. It doesn't really make Batman 'less' than Superman. It just means he's 'strengths' lie elsewhere. But somehow debates about worth always come down to brute force and laser eyes to simplify it. Superman would slam Batman in two. Casually. So would many. But I don't see most of them be uncannily good at exact sciences, research, stealth or ruthless psychological warfare. Hence the 'Trinity' is so epic. Although I mostly just read the Batverse. (i like the grittier side and the frequent crime mysteries etc) I can appreciate how each of the three represents something they're the premiere hero of. Both morally, methodology wise and ability wise.

I find it stupid that by coincidence, Bruce's ancestors discovered the underground railroad, yet Thomas Wayne never opened that up for tourism and even covered it up. Then Bruce discovers it and decides to use this place as a secret base. Despite owning millions of property all over Gotham that he can use as a secret base while he can use the railroad for tourism and giving people history on Gotham.

knytrydr73 that really depends on the continuity, Golden Age was the infant raised by the Kents and Clark was who he was and Superman just his action ID, Silver Age he was more Kal-El/Superman and Clark Kent his mask that he would escape into for a break from being Superman, then after the original Crisis back to him growing up a mortal so that Clark Kent was who he was and Superman simply his 'job' while helping make the world a better place. I've no idea what the latest reboot is but he's had both be true.

1. Never in human history has killing put an end to killing. It may stop certain killers from killing, but if it "makes sense" to kill, then you can't blame someone for "going crazy" and killing someone, can you? It's just a cycle of life, and Batman is using his only real super power - his brain - to attempt to break the cycle even when the desire to just end someone drives him nuts. 2. Batman's gadgets depend on the writers. In some incarnations, he's the Howard Hughes of crime fighting, designing his own equipment from simple Batarangs to the Batcave's super computer, to the flying troop transport in the recent Justice League movie. In other incarnations, he has brilliant guys like Lucius Fox and others he's either bought off or who owe him favors doing the actual design and assembly. A combination makes the most real-world sense, possibly including deals with Uncle Sam in addition to law enforcement. 3. The Bat Cave makes perfect sense. If someone puts it together that Batman has wonderful toys, and Bruce Wayne is rich enough to supply them or perhaps use them, he can't very well have the Batmobile in his garage with a tarp over it if someone comes snooping. Area 51 has whole hangars that can't be hidden from prying eyes. Underground is a very logical answer, but perhaps it's the Bat-motif itself that he's arguing about here. 4. Robin was created for one reason - LITTLE KIDS WERE READING THE COMICS and the producers wanted to give them characters to identify with that weren't usually included in "noir-ish crime comics" at the time - and that's it. After Frank Miller, Denny O'Neil and others started opening it back up a bit trying to appeal to more mature fans, Dick Grayson started aging, became Nightwing, and it became a matter of traditionalists versus Robinists. Some asked how can you have Batman without Robin? Others said, why isn't Batman in jail for exploiting a child? I want to see Elsewhere versions where that issue is dealt with in various ways, personally, but in general I think of Chris O'Donnel in Batman Forever as the perfect age for Dick Grayson. 5. He's not cowardly, although controlling fear is an essential part of the whole concept, and as superstition, he's more of an exploiter than a believer, but in a world with multiple dimensions and Solomon Grundy's, he clearly has to keep an open mind as well. 6. Superman isn't God, nor are all the "supers" capable of ending all crime. In the Superfriends era, when Superman could do virtually ANYTHING, like move so fast he could appear to be Clark Kent AND Superman standing close together at virtually the same time... yes. In the more realistic tales, it makes as much sense as anything else in a world where people can leap a tall building in a single bound. 7. The psychology of Bruce Wayne is part of the fun of reading the comics. He's got Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but controls it enough to focus it on one, long-term mission. He's more Batman than playboy Bruce, but when the Bat-mask comes off, and he's not entertaining guests or putting on a playboy Bruce party, he's typically the kid who got scarred all those years ago and had to find creative ways to deal with the loss of his family/ sense of reality/ sense of safety/ sense of self. I don't think its a "problem" that isn't addressed, because it is, but the guy who did this piece got nearly a million hits, so he's clearly trying to stir up some feedback, which I'm obviously doing. Hats off to you, sir. 8. The secret identity is not a problem either. Jim Gordon knows, or strongly suspects, but doesn't say anything. Others know, from Alfred to Lucius to the many others who have and do put it together - when he's not revealing it himself to the Robins, etc. Before Chris Nolan did his big ending, Bruce Timm and Frank Miller before that speculated about Wayne eventually being outed as the Bat. It all leads into another so-called "problem" however... 9. Longevity. It's safe to say that whatever incarnation/generation, the basic story is this: at 25, Bruce becomes Batman. By the time he's 30, he's met Dick Grayson, has dealt with Harvey Dent's fall from grace, and largely cleaned up Gotham's traditional organized crime, only to see a rise in the Rogue's Gallery of "super" criminals. By the time he's 35, Bruce's war on crime has taken a heavy toll. He's had a falling out with Dick, possibly Barbara Gordon as well, and they're questioning his sanity when he takes on Jason Todd as the 2nd Robin. By the time he's 40, the Joker has left Jason dead, and Barbara in a wheelchair, but Gotham is no longer the same city. Bruce can leave the street-level thugs to the police and his extended "Bat-family", which by then includes Tim Drake - the 3rd Robin - and Barbara's Birds of Prey, leaving Bruce to focus on leaving a legacy for the world in the form of the Justice League. By the time he's 45, after TWENTY YEARS obsessively fighting crime, he hangs up the cape and cowl after his illegitimate son Damien became the 4th Robin and died because of his overly-obsessive behavior. He takes Selina Kyle and tours the world. By the time he's 55, the whole Bat-family decides to retire the Caped Crusader due to the abundance of meta-humans and Gotham's entry into the "civilized" likes of Metropolis. Dick and others have occasionally taken up the mantle of The Bat when needed (fueling speculation about whether or not Batman is super-human, or multiple people, or simply a myth made up by the police to scare would-be criminals), but they all agree to hang it up for good. By the time he's 60, in the wake of planetary invasions, Lex Luthor as President, and other calamities, ordinary people question whether or not they need a Watchtower in space watching over their activities. Bruce comes out of retirement to stop Harvey Dent from going on a killing spree, but the Bat's return awakens a catatonic Joker, who murders Selina Kyle, and triggers a confrontation between Batman and Superman that will decide whether or not the "supers" are really in charge. Bruce defeats Superman, but fakes his own death, and goes into hiding with vast portions of his financial empire. By the time he's 70, Bruce emerges to act as a mentor to the new Batman, Terry McGinnis, and presumably dies leaving others to carry on into the future. That story works whether Bruce turned 25 in 1939, and died in 1984, or whether he turned 25 in 1986 (DKReturns), and dies in 2031 (which would mean he's just starting his ten year sabbatical with Selina right around now. Anyway, that's how I see it. That's why... 10. It Never Ends. The comics just focus on the period of his being 25 to 45, and kind of keep retelling those stories and occasionally add something new that feels like it should've been there the whole time (like Harley Quinn, or Bruce suffering a broken back, etc). Someday maybe they'll invent a pill that makes us all live longer and they'll adapt the story accordingly, who knows? This character will outlive us all. The ONLY "problem" I have is that I won't live long enough to see all the new and interesting places they'll take it. But I suspect that he and Superman are to America what Hercules and Perseus and Jason and the Argonauts were to the people of the Hellenistic period. That's pretty awesome. Makes you wonder if they'll still be getting it right two thousand years from now... and what mysteries are interlaced in the saga as we speak...

This, of course, is an issue that can be raised with MOST superheroes, but probably something to think about :D

varanid9 Batman is not unlike most of humanity. He value ideals over people, a detrimental fascist that is far too prominent in humanity, yet everyone chooses to praise. False progress is preferable to admitting the world is flawed.
@Kewryn
@Kewryn 6 жыл бұрын
@NInja07Keaton: the world is flawed, but to say he values ideals over people because he chooses not to kill is kind of a contradiction - how is killing equivalent to "valueing people"? If Batman chooses to kill, he effectively becomes "judge, jury and executioner", while not being an official representative of the law. He is a vigilante and he would commit murder for which he would, in all likelyhood, not even stand trial. If something like that is allowed once, what is to stop someone else (not to mention Batman himself) from another kill and than another, for possibly much less serious reasons than murdering Joker. Effectively, an act of killing Joker with no repercution pretty much invites the population to create more "Jokers", since killing is allowed and there's no backlash. At the least, it is a path that could easily lead to anarchy, essentially providing the same state Joker himself is an activist of. It's not really Batman's fault that Arkham personel can't do their job and actually keep Joker locked up as they should or that the law still chooses to label Joker as "insane" and thus not suitable for a death penalty. But if we strip the society of any form of structure, he get a "free-for-all" where any act is allowed - that's a world many times more flawed than the current one.

I don't get what your problem with the bat cave is? The argument you provided for it was "He doesn't really need it..." Why? That's not an argument and you made no attempt to provide any supporting evidence for that statement. If he didn't have a cave then he would have a factory, or an underwater base, or a base in a hidden building, or a base somewhere else either way he does need something of that nature to store his stuff and plan/monitor the city so what's the problem with a cave under his mansion? Along with some of the other "problems" the maker of this video rambled about it seems to me the person has very little or no understanding of either the character of Batman or of comics in general. This video was a failure from start to finish.

I barely read comics and know enough to understand the simple question of where would Batman build and construct all of his technology? In public? On his front lawn? at his company with everyone in the company informed about it? The concept of the cave is meant for secrecy, but the person of this youtube channel who made this video probably just has adsense on his mind, Couldn't come up with anything creative for a Batman video so just decides to make pointless arguments as filler for more time in a video, therefore disrespecting the audience's intelligence, or he's just a dumb ass. It's common sense

Chief Bill, no it really isn't. Batman isn't a cop, he's not law enforcement and most of the things he gets away with is only because the Police more or less approve of what he's doing, as do the thousands upon thousands of costumed meta-humans in the DCU. The moment Batman becomes a murderer, unless he's got a damn good reason they'd just throw him in the slammer and throw away the key. Same as any other murderer. Where common sense comes in, is that The Joker would never get sent back to Arkham after the second time of this shit happening. He'd be sitting on Death Row and would eventually get a needle in his arm with no help needed from Batman.

BTW, i generally agree with you, just wanted to point out, that lately, batman barely manages to stop jokers plans and live after that, not to talk actually getting him "arrested" as for the no killing rule, yes. the moment he starts killing the general law enforcers won't be such fans of his. that plus the fact, that he is actually insane. if he kills someone, he may very well break and actually became more dangerous than the joker.

Here's my problem with the "Batman should kill" argument; Batman is not a legally recognised member of law enforcement in the DCU (except for Adam West). He is barely tolerated in most incarnations by the police and is therefore not authorised to kill. There's no way the police or general public would be okay with a masked maniac running around murdering criminals on the streets. It's also not his responsibility to murder people in the name of justice. It's up to the courts, the law, the actual officially recognised members of government to make those calls. Think about it, would you want to live in a city where Batman was murdering people he thought was guilty? FUCK no!

Not really murder is the criminal REALLY deserves it, especially the joker... Also, there are ways to get around "murdering" a criminal. Also, you do realize that batman would have EVERY right to kill the joker in order to defend against him attacking and trying to kill other innocent people. Also, you assume that batman would kill even the least worse criminals, news flash, he wouldn't.

The law would still arrest him for murder due to the fact that he took the law into his own hands, Batman is a vigilante and is a criminal. Just because it would save lives doesn't mean it is right to take a life, where would you draw the line, how many people would you kill to save others? A series by the name Fate/Stay night actually had a point, a character that wanted to save everyone broke down after having to kill thousands to save even more lives it broke his will and he then was put to death for the number of people he himself killed to save all those lives.

THE LAW!? Batman is a violent vigilante, he's already see himself above the law. Legally Batman NOT killing villains would be pointless as they have all been held against their will without due process. If I tie up a guy and drop him off in front of a police station with evidence attached to him, he be let go that same day and that evidence would be thrown out as unmissable in court.

There was a story line that dealt with this. It explains that the people of Gotham are very territorial. When Superman came to help Batman clean up his city, the citizens became outraged and started rioting because they only trust Batman and not an Alien. This is a good enough explanation for why Superman stays away from Gotham for the most part. And just the fact that Superman has the rest of the world to look after.

Batman said it himself for why he doesn't kill. When asked by the Jason Todd why he doesn't just kill the Joker, Batman replied as such. varanid9 I know this isn’t Canon, but Superman killed Joker in injustice. Then he killed even more people, and it exactly proved Batman’s point, that you can never come back. In killing joke, the joker almost edged Batman to turn insane, so that he can prove a point that anyone can be crazy from one bad day. However, Gordon told Batman to apprehend joker by the book. After all, Joker is crazy. Batman thinks that he can solve Joker’s problems. In Batman hush: Batman was basically going to kill the joker, but Gordon again stopped him, because Gordon doesn’t want Batman descend into madness. Even though Joker has killed a lot of people at the end of the day, Batman can’t kill him, because it proves a point that he’s just as bad as the joker. And that’s why Joker kills and is obsessed with Batman. He wants Batman to kill him.

Ultimate Rodgers Who are you talking to? Who said he'd be worse? Varanid9 spoke of his life versus others' but I'd argue that this is not really about numbers, even if he is trained so well that he'd be a force of nature if he did decide to rid Gotham of every villain for good. He's not exactly recovered or stable, say what you will. So he's got his rigid rules to bring order and stability. If he went and killed someone that might disturb it. If he did he'd be more likely to become like Yagami Light in Death Note than the Joker imo. But we'll never know because... it's Batman. Also, why is it always 12? Shake it up a bit, internet! Make it 13 for a change, or 10. It's tremendously boring.

The Batcave absolutely makes sense as a place where he can keep his costume, gadgets, the batmobile, batwing and other batvehicles and all the stuff he accumulates from the guys he was fighting over the years. Or do you expect him to park the batmobile in the front yard, keep the cape in his bedroom and have the batcomputer standing in th livingroom? Would be quite awkward to have visitors if he did that.

This video was really uneducated, and unfortunately it reveals a skin-deep understanding of batman from the author. A few points: 1. Batman normally doesn't have a high ethic standard, and uses the no-kill rule to keep himself in check. And if you want to blame someone, blame Gotham state law, which keeps these crooks alive. 2. No, absolutely not. This is no Iron man. Not anyone could be batman. Beyond his physique and genious level intellect is a superhuman determination to never ever give up, and the will to see it through. 3. I genuinely don't know if this was just something you made up last minute to fit 10 things into a list. Where else would you hide a goddamn plane? 6. Are you kidding me? Have you even heard of kryptonite? Also, whilst superman is nowhere near stupid, he is pretty guillable. Why do you think his nemesis is a genious? Also, the other heroes pretty much suffer the same problem. I suggest reading JLA: Tower of Babel or injustice. 7. Yeah, his mind is kind of messed up. But that balances the character and makes him more interesting. Honestly don't see the problem. But that actually a good understanding of his psychology here. Points. 8. Yes and no. In the world of DC there are actually many labs who could make this kind of stuff. Starlabs or Luthorcorp as an example. But some people have figured it out, but chose not to reveal it. 9. Some comics do show the effect of his aging and subsequent retirement. Read The Dark Knight Returns and Batman Beyond. 10. Yeah. That's just his luck. But he pushes himself to it. He tries to make himself not needed, but in the kind of world he lives in, that's just not going to happen

The problem with Bruce's psychology is that it is mostly sane mostly by fiat. There is no mechanism and coping strategies shown where he deals with all the mental scarring that he witnesses as Batman. And he sees worse shit than Gotham's veteran beat cops. But none of that is permanent or builds up or is shown being haunted by it, by it affecting him. But what is more important is that he does not struggle about this. Him being his Batman persona is how he deals with the trauma of childhood, but he is almost never shown that this mechanism goes to far or him really struggling to maintain control or just failing to work. Not just about killing, but him losing his grip on reality or have other symptoms, like depression or mood swings or whatever. At best, when something happens to him that is too close, he hides behind his mask more (like in Bruce Wayne - Murderer?, where he denounced himself from being Bruce Wayne and this comic actually dealt with this issue somewhat). Realistically speaking, Batman's mental condition should be much more fragile than it is. He should be showing him maintaining (and struggling to maintain) his persona, his life, his balance. While sometimes some leeway is given on Alfred being an anchor for him (sometimes Robin or Leslie), he just takes it all like super-macho man.

Still have to disagree with #1. Pointing out that multiple people share responsibility or a chance to have fixed the problem is irrelevant. Sure, he might risk slipping back into himself, but the Joker is constantly flat out murdering people. If he just killed him straight off, how many lives would he have saved? Even putting his mental state at risk, I would make that risk to save that many lives. The absolutely no killing rule doesn't make moral or ethical sense to me. That being said, I do like the push towards not treating killing lightly, because it should only be for when it becomes apparent it is absolutely necessary for the greater good; and no, not like the potentate Superman of Injustice tended to use that term for. He just started killing people who didn't necessarily need it, without real good rational on why it needed to be done. That is murder.
@AdamWhistle1
@AdamWhistle1 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but this is just stupid. Why does BATMAN have to kill the Joker? Why hasn't Gotham state killed the Joker in a legal execution? He sure as hell deserved it. Hell, Joker should have died from an "accident by cop" and no one would have have cared very much. I'd imagine that even Batman would only protest. The fact that he doesn't kill at any other time suggests that he doesn't absolutely NEED to kill to do his thing. Batman doesn't see it as his job to PUNISH the criminals,that would be becoming judge, jury and executioner. He STOPS the criminals and that's it. It's not just about not getting his hands bloody, it's about keeping himself on one side of the righteous line. If he crosses that line, there is little that differentiates him from being a super-villain himself. The other problem is that if you make an exception for the Joker, why stop there? Why shouldn't he kill other super-villains that no prison can hold? Killer Croc, who has become increasingly mutated and inhuman in each incarnation? Ra'z who'll get resurrected anyway? If you start making excuses for the Joker, you start finding yourself needing a reason NOT to kill most of Batman's recurring enemies.
@Fish4Man61
@Fish4Man61 6 жыл бұрын
Why hasn't Gotham state just killed him? You might as well ask why Batman is even being a vigilante then, because the state has cops. If you are going to fulfill and extra lawful persona to do the things the state doesn't do well enough to protect people, innocent people - yes, you should kill the joker. I never said stop at the joker either, but the slipper slope fallacy needs to end. Unlike what people think, there is a huge well defining wall between justifiable kills to the madness of something like Injustice superman. It goes something like this: If said person is a threat to society, and jail will most likely not stop him, and he is almost certain to kill again... Do the world a favor, and save someone. And this was actually especially bad when we had Injustice batman not killing injustice joker, to the point he eventually nuked a city and killed millions, kick-starting the whole thing. People who would have been saved if he had the stones.

As a Superman fan, I can't speak for all of this, but I will for the one regarding Superman. It's not Supes' job to rid crime overnight. It's his job to do what is necessary for the survival of humanity, while showing humans their own inner strength, and be able to grow into their own heroes. In the graphic novel, The Man of Steel, Supes visits Gotham to meet Batman, and realizes that this is Batmans territory. A lot of the world masterminds are in Gotham, and it takes a great detective with knowledge of the city to deal with those criminals. Superman is totally out of his element in Gotham, it's a job for Batman.

Also, the point you made with Bruce Wayne, getting figured out, isn't too valid. "Bruce Wayne'' isn't too fond of Batman. He does what he can to keep it a secret. Also. 20 years being Batman is a REALLY good run, it isn't a problem. Besides, he has Terry to take over as Batman for him anyways. I just think this list is has more problems than Batman :)

It's just frustrating that the comics keep being written the way they are with the status quo being reset and the violence being ramped up to ludicrous levels that it frustrates us to see cop outs like Batman purposefully saving a person who keeps mass killing people or just retcon stuff like: OH remember that moment Batman did something that would normally kill someone? Well, Batman is just SOOOO careful that he can bust a man's head open and they'll be perfectly fine. Remember when Batman had a moment of weakness and possibly questioned his world view? Well actually never killed that guy so no need for any development at all. I just want to iterate that Batman should normally never kill people it's his default, but the way the comics are written now just really make me hate Batman and the writers for not having the balls to actually have certain villains either stay dead or become reformed like people keep saying. It doesn't even have to be Batman's hand that kills them just let something change the status quo enough that the stories actually have lasting consequences.

Wow, why do some people choose to over analyze something instead of just enjoying it. What a waste. By the way, most of the "problems" mentioned have been dealt with numerous times within the Batman universe....FOR Example: Batman's no kill rule has been addressed over and over again (not counting some of the movies). He has always been against the idea of being the judge/jury/executioner even when he disagreed with the results of the legal system. It's a concept of Justice along with his fear of absolute power (addressed in the comics and shows, especially dealing with the Justice League). Bruce Wayne is the mask, Batman is the actual persona. Bruce Wayne always sees himself as Batman (best presentation of this was in the Batman Beyond chapters). Superman admits numerous times (especially related to the Justice League) that he cannot be everywhere at once and he is unable to handle every threat on his own.

TC Internal logic is a thing within all stories. That's how they make sense, dummy. If I told you a fictional story of a man who was so strong he could lift mountains, and then told you he pulled a muscle lifting a coffee mug, that wouldn't make sense without further explanation. The story being fictional is irrelevant since the logic used to create the story is still following our "real" logic. Logic can also be applied to hypotheticals. Stop being a moron.

In reality, Batman wouldn't constantly be confronted with whether or not to kill Joker because a cop, SWAT team, or FBI agent would most likely kill Joker themselves since they are allowed to. If not out on the streets, then perhaps later once Batman has caught him and delivered him into police custody. Of course, Joker's death would be officially designated as an "accident" or a suicide, but after Joker's 2nd or 3rd prison break resulting in another bloody rampage, eventually the authorities will decide enough is enough, and kill the maniac for Batman since Batman himself legally can not use lethal force as a non-deputized vigalante and still continue his war on crime. Once Joker has demonstrated to everyone he can continually escape custody and murder at will, sooner or later an undercover CIA or FBI agent will be sent to Arkham Asylum under the guise of a specialist psychiatrist sent in to treat Joker, but will secretly have orders to murder him. That's just the reality of this particular situation.

batman's goal is order in goatham. the no killing rule represents the set of rules he fights for. if you take away the no killing rule, you take away the moral code which defines batman's greater purpose. the difference between batman and other superheroes is that other super heroes are fighting for good, and therefore many of the stories they face are about defining what is good and what is bad. Batman has already defined good as order and defined bad as chaos, so his resolve to his moral code is what defines him as good. When batman is choosing to not kill, he's not "being good and his enemies are being bad." he's following a moral code and his enemies aren't.

In all this years watching so much videos about superheroes, specially batman, i have never saw someone get so innacurate with the facts, it is so much clear that the person who made this videos has never read a full comic story (more than 10 issues make a complete story, if he ever reads this comment).Just to clarify, the least innacurate, yet one of the most important facts that is mentioned in this video is the fact that Bruce Wayne can't keep in 20 year's body shape, when even the less comic experts, even the people that has only saw batman animated movies knows about the existence of lazarus pit's (rejuvenating source), an that they are present in the entire DC universe. And that is only to mention ONE of the many innacurate facts published here, not mentioning the REAL reason why Bruce Wayne picked the bat as a symbol for crime fighting, or the fact that the only abbility that puts Batman in the trinity (the 3 most important member founders of the justice league) is his far advanced detective skills, ( in fact detective comics was the initial name from the batman comics), not his gadgets or physical power. I really hope people that works in this information and entertainement industry that is KZbin, specally this channel starts taking his job serious, and stop publishing videos just for the need for popularity and sensationalism, taking away fans form one of the most recommended series of superheroes (recognized not only by cinema directors, also by writtes and professional Psychologists) instead of recomending it to fans, and collecting real and reliable information

I agree with everything you said, and even I had problems with batman, saying he can take down the justice league and all that. It's a stretch, but this video was done by like a 13 year old trying to sound smart or something. Not someone who knows anything about batman. Plus he didn't want a sidekick. And the law calls him for help. Superman can't fix crime because crime is always happening. Batcave is a safe haven and a hideout and a place to do his detective work. He is afraid of bats and he wants his enemies to be afraid like him. So he embraces that fear and becomes fearless. The real Bruce Wayne is the one before he puts on his batman mask and after he gets home and puts off the Wayne mask. He does what HE wants. It's his company, he can hide a paper trail or say it's stolen. Lazarus pit, he's been in it before. He doesn't want to stop being batman, because Gotham needs a batman. I can't recall all of the guys points but they were all pretty shitty

10. Agreed. While killing shouldn't be used as a first resource for super heroes, there is no reasonable explanation as to why Batman lets the Joker stay alive at this point, other than villain plot armor. 9. Completely wrong. Batman uses his intelligence and deductive ability in almost every single storyline he is in. It can come down to tracking some criminal or understanding their intentions. Most of the time he is doing that is when you see him seating in his chair in front of the bat-computer. 8. Wrong again. The cave is a secure hideout under wayne mansion that only he and Alfred (initially) know that exists. It is practical because it is under his mansion and has many secure underground passageways from where he can access Gotham City. It is also not his only hideout (he even has one on the dark side of the Moon). 7. Complete misrepresentation of Bruce's interaction with the Robin characters: - Dick Grayson (first Robin): parents were killed by a gangster, Dick tried to take matters into his own hands, things go wrong and Batman saves him. Recognizing the same desire for vengeance that he had after his parents were killed, Batman trains Grayson to help them safely catch the gangster. - Jason Todd (second Robin): orphan and petty thief, Batman captures him and takes him to his mansion. At this point, Grayson was acting on his own, and Batman gave the Robin costume to Jason to help him be something greater than he was, realizing the kid had plenty of potential. He was later killed by the Joker and brough back to life with by the Lazarus Pit. - Tim Drake (third Robin): actually hunts down Batman, trying to discover his secret identity and work for him. Once he manages to find him out, Batman refuses to take him in due to his trauma from the death of Jason. However, he is targeted by criminals in an attempt to 'blackmail' Batman. Batman saves him and decides to accept him as a partner. - Damian Wayne (fourth Robins, his son): a trained assassin from birth, taught by the same League of Shadows that trained Batman. He is the most skilled Robin and was dropped in Batman's hands by his mother, Thalia. Batman did the best he could to contain and train Damian to become someone great, since there was no way Damian would accept not figthing crime. 6. Ridiculous. Completely missing the point here. Dressing as a Batman is important to create the SYMBOL of Batman. Before becoming Batman, Bruce tries to fight crime on a regular outfit, and things go awry. He realized that, even with all his training, he needs to be something greater than what he was to instill fear in criminals. He needed to be more than a man. That's why he became Batman. 5. Wrong. Even if Superman was the only hero in the DC Universe, he admitted multiple times that he can't save everyone, and that he has to pick and choose his battles. There is plenty of space for other heroes to take care of other problems. If there is an earthquake in Japan, Superman can't help people there and also take care of the crime in Gotham. 4. Nope. Bruce Wayne is the mask, Batmn is the identity. Of course Bruce doesn't express all aspects of himself when acting as Batman against criminals, but he has plenty of opportunities to do so with Alfred, his sidekicks, the Justice League, etc. Besides, you mentioned in the video his insane mental training and now is just choosing to ignore it? 3. Incorrect. A lot of people know that Batman is Bruce Wayne, including heroes and villains (even the Joker knows that Batman is Bruce). The rest of people just assume that Bruce Wayne finances someone that is Batman, which is a perfectly reasonable assumption. More reasonable than the recluse playboy millionaire being the actual Bat. 2. Agreed, but irrelevant. Time in comics passes in a somewhat different way, and writers create multiple explanations to 'heal' broken heroes. Recently Batman fell in a Lazarus Pit that put his body back into top physical condition, meaning the 10 year mark mentioned is irrelevant, since it is as if he is back to year zero. 1. Agreed. That is a problem with all types of serialized storylines, and even Sherlock Holmes suffered that (Conand Doyle killed Holmes only to have to bring him back due to readers demands). However, there is a solution: the story is about Batman, not Bruce Wayne. If the writers let other people pick up the mantle (as they have many times, but never in a definitive way), the stories could continue forever, but with higher stakes and possibility of closure.

Ugh, you clearly do not understand this character. So let me break down everything you think "wrong" with Batman. (P.S. This is going to be long) 10. (The No Killing Rule) Batman understands that if he kills all these maniacs they could never harm anyone ever again. But that isn't the point. If Batman could just kill these criminals what's to stop him from taking the next step. First kill the psychopaths, then kill anyone who commits a crime, then unite the world into a dictatorship led by him, then make anything that could harm anyone in some way like cars or cigarettes illegal as well, then take away our free will because we're to dangerous and unpredictable to keep that, then do the same to every planet going on a universal conquest for the greater good. This is exactly what happened in the injustice storyline and it's exactly what would happen if Batman made the choice to kill the Joker or any other one of these psychopaths. 9. (The Gadgets) Oh, so you think anyone could be Batman if they had the money to pay for the gadgets. Well there are other superhero billionaires in the D.C. Universe if you didn't know. There is Ray Palmer the Atom, there is Ted Kord the first Blue Beatle, and there is Oliver Queen the Green Arrow. Ray Palmer although he has the money and the brains decides to stay indoors most of the time and work on his tech. He's to scared to go out into the real world and face these psychopaths Batman faces every single day. Ted Kord exact same thing. Oliver Queen a bit different. He does face the psychopaths but if you think even for a second that Oliver Queen is anywhere near on the scale to Batman you'd be mistaken. Batman defeated Superman, Darkseid, and literally became a God with infinite knowledge. So it takes a bit more then fancy gadgets to be Batman. 8. (The Bat Cave) Where else is he supposed to keep his stuff and operate. He can't do it in some random place in the city. He needs to always be close to Wayne Manor to help secure his secret identity. The Bat Cave is directly underneath Wayne Manor and connects to the Gotham Underground Railroad giving Batman access to the entire city. Seems like the perfect place for me. If anything you should have criticized that it's to convenient for such a perfect hideout to be so close to Batman. 7. ( The Wards Are Weird) Dick Grayson: The first Robin was adopted by Batman because Batman saw himself in the boy. Batman saw how this kid was broken and hurt because of his parents death. Batman adopted the boy not to make him into the new Batman but to make it so that he would never become Batman. He helped Dick Grayson defeat his demons and enjoy life instead of becoming a demon and avenging life. Jason Todd: Similar to Dick Grayson, Jason was a kid on the streets with no father who would have become a criminal to survive. But Batman didn't want this to happen so he took the boy in and showed him to do good. Tim Drake: This Robin actually discovered Batman's secret identity by using his detective skills. Batman didn't have much of choice to not let the kid become the new Robin. Damien Wayne: Batman was roofied and raped to having a child who then ten years later was being hunted by the assassin Deathstroke and needed Batman's help. Batman didn't force anyone to do anything. 6. (He's The Superstitious Cowardly One) Batman has never stated that he isn't superstitious. He's worked with magic users before such a Zatanna and Constantine. How would this make him a coward? He uses an animal that used to frighten him to frighten others, seems like bravery to me. 5. (Batman In The World Of Superman) You do realize that the Joker has mind controlled Superman on multiple occasions. The Joker would kill superman using some form of kryptonite and would send Superman's head to Batman as a joke. Just because Superman is powerful doesn't make him unbeatable. 4. (The Psychology Of Bruce Wayne) Yeah everyone knows this. Being Batman takes a toll on Bruce hence way he has Robins and eventually Batman Beyond to carry on the legacy. Batman knows he can't do this alone and he knows that being Batman is killing him but he does it anyway because he's dedicated his life to this and he can't just stop because it's getting hard. 3. (That Secret Identity) Bruce Wayne pretends to be a playboy who travels the world and goes nuts with all his money, no one cares about what he's doing. What to you mean clearly Wayne Tech. Batman has Lucious Fox making his gadgets off the books. There are so many places where you could get that kind of tech. 2. (He Couldn't Keep It Up For Long) Similar to four, Batman knows this hence why he has successors. 1. (It Never Ends) What to you expect, as long as Batman is popular DC is going to want make as much money as possible why on earth would they ever stop. This last one was just annoying nitpicking on your part. Some actual points you should of made would be the disappearing from people when they look away or how he's seen killing aliens multiple times. But no you came up with this shit list. I bet you've never actually read a Batman comic but just did a bunch of research. Before you talk bad about something how about understand it first.

how about the fact that he is a grown man running around in what is essentially a Halloween costume beating up thugs on the street and wasting billions of dollars on gadgets instead of using said billions to open rehab centers and outfit the cops with better tech and so on and so on... instead of trying to play vigilante hero, he should be investing his money to improve the city as a whole legally. if he wasn't being selfish, Gotham could likely be much safer than hes making it now. as for the killing aspect... why doesnt the law put the villains to death legally? i mean, yeah the first few times joker could get away with being labeled as crazy, but there should be a point where the law looks at the situation and says "he clearly is a threat to the city and won't stop in spite of our best efforts.. its time to sentence him to death" (and the same can be said with most any other super villain... (except for a few like lex luthor who can (a) pay off the authorities and (b) can convince people hes less guilty of things than he really is)

Batman's no kill rule is not a good idea. Which is why it's great. It's both a character flaw and a heroic trait. Plus, it makes the story more interesting in the context of comics. It's an ongoing story. If Batman killed the Joker, no more Joker and the world of Batman is less interesting now.

Bruce going for 20 years is fine, its actually established that he operated as Batman for just under 20 years. In "Year One" he starts as Batman at the age of 25 and according to "The Dark Knight Returns" he retires age 45, takes 10 years off before returning age 55. But he could go longer due to the Lazarus Pit. In pre-New 52 (possibly in rebirth as it has brought back some continuity from before the New 52) he has been fully submerged in the pit 3 time and has stood in it several times.

10. the no-killing rule can be seen as either a strength or a weakness. in various stories he has seriously incapacitated enemies without killing them. 09. various stories have him being seriously smart on his own & minimally using his gadgets to solve crimes. His most useful gadgets are possibly his grapnel gun and his smoke bombs, both for evading dangerous situations. 08. the cave, tho it's existence is arguably silly, is definitely useful - as a place to regroup, study, analyze etc. in safety with plenty of resources not able to be stored on his belt. the most unrealistic thing about it is it's existence in the first place, not it's use. 07. Batman may have actually recruited wards before, but in some stories they really wanted to join him after discovering who he really was. the most ridiculous part of his sidekicks are their silly costumes...but silly is a matter of individual taste. 06. well-noted. he may have been hasty at first in choosing his symbol, but it paid off. if that was a stupid decision on his part, he proves his rationality & brains in the rest of his life as Batman. 05. Superman is one man, he can't handle the entire world's problems, let alone two cities (Gotham & Metropolis) or even his own! Super-villains are supposed to be mighty matches. Don't forget that in the world of Super Heroes, you also have Super Villains. And some might even argue Superman has higher moral standards than Batman (he's not the "dark knight" after all). 04. Batman himself has said before that Batman is his true self, and that Bruce is the cover. 03. Legitimate. It's truly impressive how he pulls off keeping his identity a secret. 02. That's part of his character. He's trained himself to go off an insanely short amount of sleep & be fine for everything else he does. As unrealistic as it seems, it's due to his discipline & training. If you can forgive other odd things about him, you can forgive this. 01. This can easily be blamed on the comic industry - end Batman, end cashflow. Even when he dies, they create new storylines. You can't expect him to ever be permanently over. He's an awesome character for storytellers to play with. And in a few storylines, yes, he has died or had a "conclusion" to his story. Is Batman/Bruce insane for what he's doing? He can't be completely insane as he's the "World's Greatest Detective"...so is his ideal/motive insane? I guess that depends on your view of kindness - at first he was trying to provide for others what he himself did not have...then suddenly a ton of super villains come out of nowhere and now we've got more interesting stories than a simple Batman taking down mobsters all the time. Thanks for your video & examination. No offense intended by these ^ comments/reactions.

@kyriss12

I think at this point the only way to end batman would be like in the punnisher max where he gets killed off for good, and his death motivates everyone to stand up for themselves, and take back back their neighborhoods through shear numbers. That's one of the reasons i disliked the ending to Arkham Knight so much. The whole final act of the game was leading up to batman's eventual death, while we had the entire bat family constantly reminding him he wasn't a lot anymore, and the full support of the general public plus jason todd trying way to hard to prove himself as a suprior bat knock off. It all looked like it was building up to batman giving the ultimate sacrifice, and everyone else having gron enough that they no longer needed him. Instead we got the most obviusly staged death ever, fallowed by batman running around 24/7 doing his best impersonation of a scooby doo vilian.

I disagree. I mean, yeah...it sucks for Batman to actually hang up his cape and cowl, but that was ultimately what Nolan wanted to happen in his films. Originally, Nolan was satisfied with ending his films with the second installment and was hesitant to even make the third. I didn't necessarily care for how he ended it with "Robin" discovering the cave, but I appreciate how it signifies that the continuation of Batman's legacy is everlasting. It's been that way in the comics (more than once) and he brought it to the big screen in a good way, in my opinion.

In reality, a skintight costume and cowl will slow down and stiffen your movements, deafen your hearing, and narrow your vision. if in reality you happen to see a man wearing normal street clothes in a fight with a man in a Batman costume, you should place your bets on the man in the normal street clothes. The man in the Batman costume has nothing but disadvantages.

Bruce is actually well aware of the fragile state of his sanity. He has explained that reason why he refuses to kill is because he’s afraid that, if he started killing, he mightn’t know when to stop, or where to draw the line of where killing would and wouldn’t be warranted.

“If you kill a killer, the number of killers in the world remain the same.” -Batman. I agree with this because you shouldn’t kill every damn criminal or scumbag you find, but there are a select few (like the joker) who do need to die considering they will always escape and take more lives. I agree with the gadgets thing to an extent because he is also extremely gifted at the use of stealth and has also perfected every fighting style known to man. Not to mention he uses fear to his advantage. What I’m saying is that even if you took away all his toys, he’d still kick your ass. The batcave is crucial because not only does it act as a storage facility, it is also used for training and has an active laboratory which can come in handy if Batman needs information quick, Alfred can just send the results through the batcomputer. Granted it doesn’t need to be a cave but it helps for thematic impact. He doesn’t force the Robin’s to fight crime. They always want to avenge their family or loved one’s death and Batman just helps them in that pursuit. Eventually the Robin realizes that nobody should have to endure such pain so they are glad to take up the mantle. They can leave at any point it’s not like he’s forcing them to stay there, it’s happened before. Yes he’s kind of superstitious but it’s more about projecting his own fear of the bat onto the criminals of Gotham. You can’t lie, even if he is superstitious he’s still badass. Superman may be fast but he’s not nearly fast enough to stop every crime in the world every day. A crime is happening literally anywhere at any given moment always, there is almost never a moment when a crime is not happening. And Superman doesn’t really frequent Gotham that much let alone anywhere other than Metropolis (for the most part) so Bruce decided to do something. I agree with the psychology part because that event changed him, it morphed him into someone else. Is that a bad thing? Not at all, he’s still a remarkable human being as Bruce Wayne and also as Batman. I mean this guy has pledged his life to help others. Whether he does it as Bruce Wayne with million dollar donations and the like or as Batman by beating up criminals in the streets, really makes no difference to me. They guys got a heart of gold even though he doesn’t show it. Several people have figured out his identity. Superman just used his X-Ray vision to look through the cowl, Bane was able to connect the dots on multiple occasions (though he forgot one time because of too much TN-1 venom), and Catwoman also knows though there are multiple versions of how. Some she found out herself, others Bruce just straight up told her. Ra’z knew as well and so did the Joker (some versions anyway), hell even Amanda Waller figured it out. Less people know Superman’s identity and all he does cosmetically is change his hair and wear glasses. 20 years is a long ass time of fighting criminals and it’s not like there is no more Batman after that. That’s the purpose of training a Robin, so there is someone to take up the mantle of Batman. This way criminals will believe him to be supernatural or immortal which will only add to the fear that is already there. It never ends. I mean duh, nobody is gonna look at Batman and be like “Eh guess we can’t make any more money with this guy.” It’s just gonna keep getting remade until someone takes it into a new direction, then it will get remade again and again then rinse and repeat you get the idea. I’m not saying there are no flaws with the character I mean there are some inherent issues with him, these just aren’t any of them
