In my 60's - always lived solo. I like to say I'm alone but never lonely. I clean when I want, cook what I want, decorate like I want, write in my coral painted office, go to art class, have a close relationship with my son, stay in bed late if I want with the cat curled at my feet, have friends. It's a full life, always, and I'm happy.

People ask me all the time are lonely. I’m painting my stairs right now. I ripped apart my gardens. I don’t have time to be lonely. I got three videos ahead of myself lol I just keep my life pretty princess somehow I painted myself into the house and now I can’t get to the store, I don’t know what value Village gonna do without me today 😂🤣🤣🤣so you sit here and laugh at myself it’s OK my life beautiful too. My husband just passed last month. We were married for 53 years. He had a stroke 10 years ago and I cared for him all that time. After all those years of cooking, child rearing, cleaning, working outside the home, caring for him, I’m just in shock that I can do what I want when I want to. And . . . Today is my 75th birthday!

Widow in my 70's. I think you have to be happy with your own company, I love being by myself, do what I want when I want. Have control of the TV, so watch what I want. Love reading, gardening and listening to the radio. The list goes on

Think you nailed it Brooke! There are pros and cons to living alone - I'm married 35 years and my lifelong friend has never married and lives alone. Sometimes I envy her - she leaves the house clean and tidy and comes back to a clean & tidy house! These are little things but they can drive you insane! Yes it's true that there are many women like me who have mainly considerate partners and don't "ask permission" to do things but as you say, love and respect dictate that you consider the other person so there is no total freedom as single people have! Also you're correct, it's not selfish to want to have the freedom to come and go as you please, a degree of "selfishness" is a very healthy thing! Love your channel!

I agree with everything you listed 100%. I have been divorced for the longest and raised a good son as a single parent with lots of support from my brothers and my wonderful in-laws who I still keep in touch with. I love the fact that I do not have to share ANYTHING with a partner, especially my hard earned money. Also you can walk around naked for as long as you please. I am 71 years old and do not care what people think. I am having a wonderful time being single with my family and friends. You rock and you are a joy to see and listen to. I have been married twice & men can be a pain ! I was on my own with my daughter for a few year & I truly enjoyed the freedom. I have the largest bedroom suite in the house as he does snore ! He loves feeding people & will cook & if one of my best friends needed a place to stay he never complained & they could stay until they were set to go & secure ! I do love alone time ,I am financially stable & don't answer to my husband if I buy something ! I made that perfectly clear before we were thinking marriage ! I guess everything has it's pros & cons ! Lol

I’m a 75 yr old widow and agree with all you ladies. I was married 20 yrs to a narcissist and finally got a divorce but then found a guy I thought would be great to live with. Wrong. About the time I was thinking about divorce he was killed in a car accident. I’ve been a widow 15 yrs and they have been wonderful yrs. I definitely do my thing with my vintage lady friends of 20 yrs and a few since we were 6 yrs old who are widowed. We go thrifting, out to lunch, plays, and just enjoy each others company. I’m definitely not lonely and also have fur babies to curl up with. I’m in middle of remodeling my whole house and don’t have to ck with anyone on colors, fancy light fixtures, placement of furniture etc WHAT A WONDERFUL LIFE. MAY ALL OF US SINGLE SENIORS LIVE OUR LIVES TO THE FULLEST. LOVE TO US ALL💗💗💗

I love being single in my 60! I appreciate everything you said and so true!!! I do have a wonderful man in my life. We are great companions. He lives in his home. I live in mine. He does his thing I do my thing if I choose to out of respect, let him know what’s going on. I will and same with him. we love to be together, but it’s nice that I can do my own thing and I’m not accountable to anybody, but myself and trust me when I say this, it took a very long time for me to get to the place that I am and I absolutely love my beautiful life!

WOW I am amazed at all of the positive but very happy as well. I am 70 and have been on my own for 20 years and frankly never happier. I love being able to do crafting at 4 am if I feel like it. I am very much a night owl and I sleep better during the day then at night. I had to laugh at loud with the lady who talked about having 7 Christmas trees I have a lot also and am thinking about adding a couple more this year. The lady with the soaker tub good made me chuckle as well. The freedom to do what I want when I want is priceless to me. As you said Brooke it is not for everyone. A good friend of mine has found herself single at 66 and is having a very hard time with it. We chat everyday sometimes two and three times ( which is drastically cutting into my "me" time )It's like a saying I read somewhere,,Yes I like you but I didn't mean everyday. What I love about this video is that YOU find the pros in being single and not in mourning or feeling a sense of loss that you are not partnered. As you mentioned, partnered people can do everything you do, but it is more involved because you always need to coordinate and respect the other persons likes dislikes wants desires and demands. It is also, as you mentioned, a HUGE loss when a partner leaves or dies because it’s a life change like no other. Hopefully those who are facing a loss transition will find their resilience and ease into a sense of peace and also experience the pros of being single, even if they aren’t the same as your pros.

The things I miss having a bigger budget would take care of all of it I think such as a handyman, a driver at times & pet sitter. Well seriously I think having a loving relationship, companionship & years in a good marriage would be a blessing and is for many. Girl, I’m with you about what u enjoy. I totally agree about the respect when u have a partner. It’s respectful to let them know where ur going etc. And, if I had a partner, not only would I let him know where I’m going, bt would ask/make him a dinner because that’s one way I show love or foreplay…😂 Right now my “dinners” consist of popcorn when I’m too tired and don’t want to cook. I totally agree w/your observations, Brooke. I’m married, now for 42 yrs. I love my husband, but he and his brother go on hunting trips (a total of 3-deer hunting). I truly enjoy my alone time, while he’s away. I eat when I want, and can be satisfied w/a sandwich or veggies and dip, or a soup I have made. No fuss! I read or watch KZbin, or do a small cleaning project while he’s away. I have two small senior dogs. They’re old gals like me, and they’re content to nap beside me while I watch tv, or read a book. I have comfort w/them being here, but don’t have to plan a meal, they sleep & don’t interrupt by talking (lol), when I’m watching something. I think some alone time is good for the soul. I also, “LOVE IT!”Thanks for this topic, Brooke. You didn’t say anything wrong. If friends can’t share their thoughts, w/friends, then what kind of friends are they?? @@mamabrooke understood! But I forgot to mention one thing! As I stated, I love my husband. We’ve had three children and how we loved them at home. But now we have four little grandchildren, 2 boys & 2 girls (9,8,5, 4 mos old) and got two grandsons thru a second marriage (12, 13). We love them all! But! If my hubby would die before me, I already know that I would not remarry. I had decades of a great marriage. But at my age now, any man who would want to marry me, I’d know he would love a woman at home, making meals, washing dishes, & dirty clothes, etc. NO THANK-YOU!! That will be the time where I do what I want, when I want. A husband, been there, done that. I don’t have any interest in another man in my life. I’ll spend time visiting my family if I want companionship. Then I’ll go home and do as I please. So keep sharing, I’m all ears! 😘🥰

I agree with you on all of them! I lost my husband to COPD/lung cancer soon to be six years. Oh I miss him everyday but after being caregiver for 3-4 years it has been a time of rest and being “selfish”! ❤❤

Brooke, like you said, for those ladies who have wonderful life-time spouses/partners, that is a blessing. I have been single for many years and have accomplished so much on my own. One of the things I really value is being able to decorate however I want. On my bucket list is a pink refrigerator (to match my pink microwave and toaster) 😆😂💗

I agree with you 100%.I was married 22yrs. Got a divorce then spent 15 years with someone else. Both were very controlling . At 58 I got my own place. I've been single for 27yrs. And love it. I don't mind going out on a date but don't want them staying over. And I can choose to be intimate if I want or not. It's a wonderful life. I don't need to have people around me all the time If I want to I call a friend for lunch or go to the beach since I moved to Barbados and bought a small house there after I left the U.S. Love decorating and going to auctions since there aren't many thrift stores here. LET ME SHUT UP NOW I'M TALKING TOO MUCH BYE❤

I understand compleyely. There is nothing more important than your freedom. People will ask me don't I miss not having a man . Only when I have something that needs to be fixed thst I can't do myself. But its better hiring someone that way I don't get used to depending on someone. I just finished painting 2 rooms myself and I'm 85. Age is just a number

Oh, Brooke...I'm coming at you alright! With how much I LOVED this. I'm a single 58yo empty nester. I wanted a soaking tub but my bathroom was too small. So I had the plumber install it right in my bedroom!! I always say about it...a definite plus to being single...nobody to veto that brilliant plan!

I was widowed at 59 and am now 72. I love the single life too. Love having my own closet, bed and no one to be responsible to or for.. I travel with my 4 close friends and we do all sorts of fun things together, including thrifting! I am financially secure and have attentive adult children. The only time I feel I wish I had a partner is when I am not feeling well or need a dance partner at a wedding etc.

I'm with you, and value solitude when I can get it! Although I live alone and work from home, it's fantastic to just be quiet after taking back to back customer inquiry calls for a large insurance company. It's exhausting to be so focused on listening and helping people through the claims process, while being empathetic at the same time. At the end of an 8 hour workday, I am ready for me time, for all the same reasons you expressed. I love eating what I want when I want, watching what I want when I want, sleeping when I want... I get the feeling some people sort of pity me for being alone in my 60's, but I love it! I am on friendly terms with my ex, and am proud of the way we raised our son to be a strong, independent man, there's my five sisters who are all married and a few good friends that I see on a regular basis, so I'm good with living alone. Also I just love having a home where things remain exactly how and where I left them!

You speak for me! I’m 71 and perfectly happy living alone after two failed marriages. I’ve been on my own since I was 46. I have several married friends that feel like they need to fix me up with someone. I feel like they’re projecting their own discomfort with how it would be to live alone. They just don’t get it. You’re right about compromising. I had no aspirations of ever getting married but have been twice, the current one for 42 years. There are many things about my marriage that I enjoy, but if he were no longer in my life, I also know that I’d be fine on my own. Like you, I have plenty of my own interests that keep me busy, and take care of most things around my home anyway. Thanks for sharing.

I think there are a lot of older women who love their freedom. I am 58 and only bought my own home 2 years ago thanks to the legacy from my darling mum. I absolutely love my life, my beautiful 1929 home and it’s. vintage garden full of gorgeous old roses, bulbs in spring and a huge Japanese pink Cherry Blossom. I feel reborn .Life is good.

My husband and I divorced in my early 40’s. I was about 42. We were only married for 5 years and many relationships prior. After my divorce and starting my next chapter in my life, I realized very early how much I love being alone. I’m just not the relationship girl. I love all the same things you mentioned, and, I’ll mention a few more: Not having to pick up after someone else Doing someone elses’s laundry Having to put up with another person’s mood or quirks I come and go as I please Decorate however I choose without having to consider someone else’s likes/dislikes I have my own money and spend it however I want I can travel where and whenever I want AND HERE’S THE BIG ONE: I DON’T HAVE ANYONE I HAVE TO PLEASE BUT MYSELF. I am very happy in my life. I will be 59 in February and have never looked back with any regrets of not having anyone. I have my dog, my own home, my own money, a great job and friends and family that are always there for me. I am blessed and happy beyond measure. I so look forward to your videos. You are such an inspiration in so many ways! ❤

I’m single but have two kids still at home. My house my rules! I love sleeping alone, control of the tv remote, and not having to compromise. But I trained my boys- they never leave the seat up! I look forward to living alone someday, after 5 kids and 35 yrs of parenting I’m ready.
