I think the most difficult challenge in purchasing a fragrance, especially when blind-buying, is in deciding whether you will not just love it, but love it forever
@TheCookieKing20008 ай бұрын
This is such a good point that I think would make an interesting video, Justin if you see this I’d love to hear your thoughts! I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to say I love a fragrance “forever.” If I love it now, shouldn’t that be good enough? I can aspire to love my family and significant other forever, but I’m not sure if loving a fragrance forever should be a determining factor in a purchase decision. We all develop different tastes and styles as we go, so I feel like our fragrance preferences are bound to change with time. Lmk what you think!

This has been my journey over the past year. I buy less fragrances, but of a higher quality. But that means less supply to satisfy my addiction, so I pick up a few, highly rated cheapies to keep me ticking over. Some of these are high quality clones, the benefit being that I get to sample a particular fragrance profile at a much lesser cost.

Excellent video! Both the topic and the content. Your observations toward the beginning are on-point. You are right in declaring that an effort to build an impressive collection of mass-appealing scents can easily become a huge financial waste. I once had such a collection (300+), and it became overwhelming with the decision fatigue. When one has 100 or more different fragrances that all DO THE SAME THING - let's just say it all began to blue together, and I temporarily lost sight of why I originally came to love fragrances. I'm now down to 61. What I currently own either has a specific function, or it's one that I absolutely love to wear. Finally, I once participated in a lot of blind buying, which I came to regret. My current regiment is that I won't buy any full bottles until I've had opportunity to get at least a full wearing. I like to get at least 5 mL samples of niche and indie stuff in order to get 2 or 3 full wearings. Over the last 3 years, I've sampled more than I can count, but I've only added 3 new fragrances to the collection.

I do love your videos and the messages you bring across and I think you steered me a lot towards sampling first, and I think its the best thing you can do in this hobby. Regarding your content, I wish you´d spend more time on "more focused" content rather than making another top 10 list. I know its what gets clicked most, but it´s the 3rd video I´ve seen from you where you talk about Cartier Déclaration. I honestly end up watching less from you because I assume I already know a lot of the fragrances you talk about. I´d much rather see videos about individual fragrances, or fragrance lines, like Terre ´d Hermes or the Encre Noir line, and compare them with each other. Or tie the top 10 list to a season or occasion. I do really enjoy the ones where you focus on a specific note with 3 levels too! But this video just feels like it could be anything, and I honestly often just stumble upon a "specific note" video because I can´t differentiate them from the rest that easily. I wish you all the best, and as with fragrances, just do what you like most!

I study research and sample very expensive frags. Thankfully I found out that I don’t like many Killian fragrances I thought that I would love… (money saved). However… I love the rush of blind buying… in the vein of saving money… I blind buy frags that are 50-60 and below. If it’s not good… I’ll resell… gift… if it’s good… I found a cheap gem… So examples… got a big haul of samples including 2 amouges… 2 killians… Ganymede and meet me where the sky touches the sea. Ended up buying the latter two… and love them both. Recently I blind bought banana republic grasslands… and I am not a fan… after that blind bought Monte Blanc presence … love love love it… one of my favorite dumb reaches ever. In conclusion I’d say treat blind buying like gambling… only use an amount of money that you are 100% ok with losing.

Hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the Zaharoff house. Tabac is a more animalic, stronger take on the usual leather fragrance. Rosé (i just learned how to type that Mexican-hyphen thing by playing around with my keyboard. Yeah for me!) is great, it was my favorite rose scent (which, admittely wasn’t saying much, but Rosé is really good). Now that I’ve tried Halfeti Black Rose, that’s my new favorite Rose. I think it’s safe you’ll probably also like either Signature Homme or Aurum, most people like those options as well. For the money, Zaharoff is a GREAT NICHE brand and relatively cheap (it’s now cheaper than a lot of the new designer frags). Anyway, I hope you enjoy your samples and find at least 1 or 2 you’re willing to "pull the trigger on". (That’s American for "commit to”. You know how us Americans love our guns and their slogans!).

With the designer Elixirs coming out priced around $180-$200 for 60mL, it’s making niche seem more affordable.
