I first heard of the Police in 1981 and bought their first two albums on 8-track... wow, I feel old now. I bought the third on cassette... technology was so speeding up then.... (laughing) ... At this time, I was learning guitar with theory and spent two years doing that with an extra year in choir to train my voice. The Police inspired me and I continued to listen to Sting from then to now. Sting in this interview says that he's agnostic and I respect that but being agnostic is like sitting on top of a barbed-wire fence... after some time your clothing in the crotch is torn to shreds and you're forced to protect some things more personal. Sting also says in this interview that he has no problem with God but with religion. I can't agree more with him and I hear this same statement by many people.. Paul, who can be disputed as speaking for Christ said that repeated prayers was like the tickling of ears to God;.Religion in latin means traditions of men/mankind.... what does that have to do with God? All prayers should be pure and sincere like a child before bedtime... original... like a new song as Psalm 40 suggests. Me... my beliefs? My faith? I'm at best a Devil's advocate.... but I found spripture that may help Sting... I'm certain he's read it... oh' well.... 1 Corinthians 13:1-221st Century King James Version (KJ21) 13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains, but have not charity, I am nothing.But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 43Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. 44Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. 45Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. 46And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. Now comes Gordon 67: 1.... Never envy another's shoes... walk in your own and value every moment of your life above the grave. " Love is the key even in the worst of your/our time here. My Dad and I had a conversation after we watched a movie called "Interview with the Vampire." He told me that he wanted to be a vampire and I told him that it was better to live one life worth living than a hundred we regret. I'm writing something called "A Life Worth Living" and I wrote all of this to explain the title to Teresa and my daughter, Chloe. Thanks Sting... Mr. Gordon Sumner....have faith in me. I believe in all facts and all I have written here is a matter of opinion at best. Yet, I always loved your view on TV preachers... game show hosts. My name? Frank Gordon Stoef (fluer) ... Hoskins on my Mother's side, Seminole by my Great Grandmother and Choctaw by the blessing of Whiskey Maker and our tribe in Long Beach, MS. People always wondered why my skin was so dark... in Florida.... some thought I was Cuban.

@burtonrules123 I wouldn't say he chose to ignore it. Forgive me if I am perceiving what you said the wrong way. But from what I see he still has faith in God because he did get his marriage blessed by the church. I just think he isn't following any of the social teachings of the Church of what is right or wrong as they can be dividing amongst people.

I'm saying Maestro Sumner - I wish Sting would do a Rock n Roll record. And I know I'm not alone. I specifically saw you for the first time during your Broken Music tour because it was being billed as your rock tour. Or "Gordy with Genitals" as I fondly called it. I thought at that point it might have been my only chance. Then The Police reunited, and I along with untold millions of others came out to hear you rock out. Because that's EXACTLY what people want to hear.

As well as stings phenomenal talent as a writer, performer, singer and fortunately for sting a good looker, you can't take away from him how very hard he has worked to be one of the best known music talents around the world. It's out there if you want to get it, sting has shown us that if you really want it - work at it. I loved the police and enjoy stings solo work. Every song is thought out rather than I wrote this one in 15 minutes. Self believe that you can achieve it will make you achieve it -sting is living proof of that.

Sting - said he was agnostic, so he believes there is something out there but not sure. I am a born-again christian and i listen to his music, i have been a born-again christian 39 yrs. I probably shouldn't listen because it is considered WORLDLY music, but he seems to be singing everywhere. I here him sing in the grocery store, the laundromat, the hotel lobby, CVS, and Walgreen's, Wendy's Restaurant, Burger King. How can we escape this guy?

I have a question for Sting: We've heard knitwear-based explanations of your nickname. Coincidentally, your initials "gmts" (Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) when written in reverse order on an exercise book by a bored grammar schoolboy would be ... "stmg" which could stylized into a tag as "sting". Is this the true origin of the moniker? Thanks.

Celebrities say so many crazy and contradictory things. First he says he is agnostic - which means he does not recognize any God, and almost immediately after he says he does not have a problem with God but with religion. Well, first, if you don't recognize any God then it's not possible to have a problem with him or not have a problem with him. Second, religion is "belief about who God is" - so to separate God from religion is equally nonsensical. What most of these people mean is that they don't like doctrines and rules which religions include. But that is also ridiculous, as there is not a person alive that is not beholden to some doctrines and rules - of their religion, their government, their business, or - in the case of Sting - his record company.
@eltorpedo67
@eltorpedo67 9 жыл бұрын
***** Why are you compelled to misrepresent what he stated, Howard P? You apparently have no understanding of what an agnostic is, and your definition of religion is hilariously narrow, and equally as erroneous as your definition of agnosticism. Buddhism doesn't have a central "creator" or god, so it's not a religion, I suppose? Agnostics simply state that we cannot know whether there is a God or not, so therefore religion is a man-made fallacy. Nothing contradictory in his statement at all. He's basically saying, "I don't know if there is a God or not, but I know that religion is definitely bullshit". That opinion is no more nonsensical than believing in an invisible man in the sky created you, but is also going to cast you into an eternal damnation if you don't beg for forgiveness and acknowledge that his son (who is also himself) died for your sins. (PS: I've copied this, so I can reply to you anytime you delete your old comment and start over)
@Ahoj4U
@Ahoj4U 9 жыл бұрын
Not really. Your definitions are flawed and using vulgar language doesn't strengthen them. And yes, we can all believe that you have copied this and will re-post it rather than taking courage and posting your own view. Small children also have such a need.
@eltorpedo67
@eltorpedo67 9 жыл бұрын
That's what the "reply" button is for Howard. Why don't you address my points and explain how my definitions are flawed rather than try and suggest my comments aren't my own view simply because I replied to yours? The reason is clear - you're hopelessly lost, your entire point was flawed to begin with, and you can't recover, but you're so determined to be right that you delete an entire thread and start over fresh hoping I won't bother replying.
@2Uahoj
@2Uahoj 9 жыл бұрын
Actually Howard, you have the better argument here. Sting does in fact contradict himself in saying he is agnostic and then stating he has no problem with God (well, if one is agnostic one takes no position on whether God exists or not) - so difficult to unravel his reasoning.
