One of the differences I've noticed in other states is other states will have cbd stores or homemade art/jewelry stores that also double as beer and/or wine bars. This is the kind of grassroots 'sub-culture' aesthetic that Utah doesn't allow. There's also no 'home grown' pedestrian restaurant districts where you have live music and smell fantastic food in the early hours of the evening. To me these things definitely give a different kind of rhythm to life because if you can go to a boutique store while simultaneously having a beer or glass of wine it creates a real sense of community. And having a boulevard of restaurants really gives you something awesome to look forward to on the weekends if you're past your college days and want to do something with or without the kids. And you'd rather stroll around than go to a movie. Or simply have a drink after a meal and listen to live music on a patio. I think Utah weather is more predictable though than living in Texas or the east coast for instance. Mostly sunny July through September and parts of October. Snowy skies November through February and then warmer but 'hit and miss' nice weather through the end of June. The last thing I would say is there's no general culture that ties everybody together culturally. With the amount of non-religious outdoor enthusiasts, mormons and upper class business people dominating the population it really adds an element to Utah where people live completely in their own private bubbles here. You might even say it gives some of them a feeling of a superiority complex because they prefer to live such private lives. It's also so competitive here that it's not uncommon for most people you meet here to be working two jobs, but also be spending their weekends going on long hikes or taking their boat out to some lake somewhere on top of raising a large family. It's not really a state where people take it easy.

It is interesting that you are giving reasons not to live in Utah, but after living in the other states, you have chosen to move back to Utah to work and raise your family. So what are the good reasons to live inUtah.

Great question! I do have a video on the top 10 reason you SHOULD live in Utah and that is coming out next week. The biggest factor for me is that it's a great place to raise a family. Crime is low, there are a lot of kids for my kids to play with and I love the elementary school they go to. Our home prices are rising but they are nowhere near as ridiculous as some of the other states, crime is relatively low and I love our spring, summer and fall (winter is rough for me but my kids love it)

@@thatbenbarberguy good reasons! Why do you think the crime rate is lower here and that it is a good environment for kids, for the most part. Do you think the “Mormon” influence has anything to do with that? I agree the air quality is terrible. That’s my main complaint. Thanks for your information.

I think the Mormon influence does play a part in Utah experience - typically, Mormon families are big families, so there are more kids in a given neighborhood, and although I don't believe the "Mormon origination story", I think that, over the years, the culture created through the church - community activities, community involvement, service related projects and things like that create an environment that is good for families with kids. As far as crime goes, it's hard to say - I have never looked at our crime rates compared to other metros. So "low crime" is more a feeling - yes, there are areas in Utah that are sketchy and we do have drug use, gang activity and similar crimes like any other major city, I just never experienced much growing up here.

I would agree that the cost of living has grown a lot over the last five years. Still beautiful though!
