I think if you're upper class it has everything to offer. If you're more traditional 'rough neck' working class or 'sub-culture' you might not find it as appealing here. Or if you love those typical 'happening' restaurant districts like in a lot of other cities (Denver, San Diego, Austin, San Antonio, etc) you won't find them here either.

Yeah, housing prices rocketing is one of the worst things economically long term unless you already own your own home. Pricing people out of affordable housing causes severe problems.

I agree with most of your points however, with a $200k home, now $600k, Utah salaries have remained relatively low. A person making $100k in 2019 is not suddenly making $300k. I don’t know the statistics, you might, but I have a feeling that most of the home sales are going to people coming in from out of state with FB, Adobe, Google etc. and they brought their salaries with them. My neighbors who bought land and built a home on that land (Utah lake front property…the lake is their backyard with views of Timpanogas) said that their kids rent is more than their mortgage on a 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 3 car garage and a (“drop your jet-ski in the water from your private dock”) house. A 1-bedroom in a very bad, crime ridden neighborhood is $1600. That same apartment was $690 in 2019. I doubt the tenants salary has increased as well. So home prices and rents skyrocketing and salaries remaining lower than average, not great. Otherwise, very beautiful here. I lived a lot of places (LA, Santa Barbara, Hawaii, Boston, Orange County) so I think I do have a pretty good barometer of what’s better and what’s not great.

We’re from Wyoming.. last 6 years have been spent on the east coast (NC and PA) and we absolutely hate it! We were going to look into Utah as we miss the outdoors but holy cow!!! The housing prices are just insane. Great video btw. I’d find myself agreeing more with him except the winter thing. We love to sled and miss it greatly.
@meganbuehrle1455

I say housing prices are insane because wed like to be in the outskirts of salt lake. Not the desert area down south. I know it’s a wanted beautiful area so I get it, but dang. We now pay almost 7k in taxes a year though. So that huge of a drop in taxes puts us in a higher range of house because our payments would be the same. We didn’t want to go above 300k but it’s looking to be not above 400k now.

Thank you for watching and commenting! I (Ben) lived in NC in my teens and, as much as I hate to admit it, I did miss the snow. Maybe I should modify my comments in the next video to stress that I don't like how long the winters are. I love the first and last snow of the year, as well as snow during the holidays and, yes, to go sledding with my kids :)

You don't need to warm up newer vehicles. Because of all the sensors new cars have it is unnecessary to warm up. The older cars maybe 90s and older do need to warm up because they don't have as many sensors.

Home prices will vary depending on where you live but there are always options, like finding a home that needs updating or buying a home that allows you to rent a portion to offset payments. We've helped a lot of young homebuyers get into homes that meet their needs and their budgets. When you are ready, there is always a way.

@@lifeinutah no it isn’t. What’s the point of increasing equity when the price of alternative homes is also increasing. It’s only beneficial if you’re moving states and you have more purchasing power in said state. It’s the problem I’m suffering with right now. Bought my house in 2020 and it’s gone up in value by 50k. However everything else has gone up by 50k or more as well. So it doesn’t really help me.

I’m not Jewish, but there are a couple synagogues and a Jewish community center in Salt Lake (mostly Reform), one in Park City, one in Ogden, and one in St. George. The center in SLC hosts a lot of community events. Recent stats suggest about 6K Jews in the state (less than 1%), but almost all the Mormons have a big affinity (very inaccurately and very accurately) for Judaism. A lot of Mormons have been to Jerusalem, own kippahs and menorahs, etc. Most grocery stores in Salt Lake County carry a good selection of foods that are kosher for Passover.

A few things to know. Do not want cold, look at Saint George or Cedar City. Salt Lake City area is HORRIBLE with pollution! Utah taxes EVERYTHING! Look at it. Retirement is hit. As for Mormons, if my mormon family, who has lived their says it is too mormon.

Sorry you didn't like the video but thank you for watching as long as you did and commenting. I (this is Ben) truly hate the cold winters and see the other things I mentioned as things someone really needs to consider before moving here. There are too many videos, in my opinion, where people make it sound like Utah is all sunshine and rainbows so I wanted to combat Kim's energy and optimism with a counter argument to the things she likes about living here. I also made a complete "cons" video and tried to be as honest as I could about things I think outsiders may struggle with when moving here. Hopefully you'll like the next one :)
