But is it worth it? From being dependent and their outdated thinking, to complicated dating and being an outsider, these are stories and experiences of the difficulties you might face along the way.
Living in China or traveling to China. These are things you might want to know about the culture. Just want to make sure you know EVERYTHING!

We need more videos like this. I want to know both the good and bad about China. But I avoid all the channels that say bad things about China because I don't know if they are telling the truth or not. It's good to have a trusted source giving us a more complete understanding of the place.

Traveling to China during a national holiday is the worst idea, public transport would be so over crowded with people going back home, to different parts of China to celebrate with family etc, imagine 1.4 billion people, over a vast landmass, that is as big as America, traveling around the country. That's too many people. Too crowded. Work hours, is hard, compared to majority of western developed countries, Chinese are extremely hard workers, but then have no social life. Much like the drone workers in Japan. Not much work/life balance. I hope it improves though. Very interesting video Lizz 👍

As a Chinese, I think the reason for not being able to make friends (even when the language barrier is aptly addressed) is that Chinese are typically more reserved, even more so when dealing with foreigners who can feel intimidating and unfamiliar to us. It's not that we hate foreigners and treat them worse than locals, it's that we need a bit more confidence to talk with foreigners than with ourselves. Of course, most of us do show ample courtesy if foreigners approach us, but we may need more encouragement to build close relationships with foreigners. If you are willing to invest time and mental effort into fostering a relationship with us, opening up more and being the ice breaker may help (I'm no expert in relationships but this at least it would work against me).

I've had discomfort under my right ribs for a year. I went to all the best hospitals and they all said there was nothing wrong with me. But I really felt uncomfortable, and I finally recovered after taking Chinese medicine. You know that year, I always felt like I was going to die.By the way, the safest way to give gifts in China is red envelopes.But you are a foreigner, and Chinese people will not be angry if you give pears or shoes to lovers. We have a saying: Don’t blame those who don’t know.

Just got back from China ( Guangzhou->Shanghai->Beijing->Chongqing). This is just my thoughts of one month in China and is not fair. These are just "my" thoughts. China is NOT perfect but it is the safest country on this planet, imo. People are kind and humble. The Architecture is modern/futuristic. The transportation public and private cars ( mostly EVs) are futuristic. The streets are clean. There a many many positive but here are my pet peeves: 1. Too many squat toilets 2. Smoking in plubic places 3. the spitting 4. For forgeingers, the "You want massage hint" 5. The silent EV mopeds zipping on pedestrian side walk.

No country is 100% prefect. But if you have been to China and see with your eyes, China has many good than bad compare to many countries in this world whereby the population is not even 10% or 20% of China. So, overall China is doing pretty well with such a huge population.

Agree on 2 and 3, for 1 Chinese people are used to squat toilet, so public toilet are mostly squat, if you hate them then go to a hotel or fancy malls where that is more used. 4 is like the same for everyone lol; 5 is that not every city is like Beijing where electric bicycle has their own lane, so in most cities it's common rule that they will use pedestrian lane, you just have to get used to it and listen the bell.

I was in China for few months. The Over The Counter and doctor-prescribed medication are super. Effective and much, much better than those in the US. The packets you are talking about are the TCM medication. Most foreign tourists don't drink TCM medication. They go to hospital to consult doctor if they are not feeling well. Please be clear on this aspect. If you have depression, the Chinese doctor is correct, you should learn to think positive when issue happens. People in the west over rely on medication to quickly solve their issues and without medication they became hopeless, and suicidal. They developed a dependence problem. That's NOT good.

Totally agree with you. Chinese medicines (TCM) is based on herbs and natural ingredients. Western medicines may suppress symptoms, but they may NOT cure the root causes. This vlogger fails to understand the differences in CULTURES so she portrays Chinese beliefs and actions as wrong(?), just because they are different to hers. So typical of Western people to exaggerate focus on their depressions and taking antidepressants /painkillers for their mental pain.
@chew5461
@chew5461 13 күн бұрын
I totally agree. Chinese medicines (TMC) are based on natural herbs. Western medicines may seem to cure the symptoms but they may not cure the root cause of the illness. This vlogger fails to understand the "bad" things she attributes to the Chinese people are actually just due to differences in CULTURE. These "bad " things about China are just her perception and generalisation. Does she realise that many of us think people in the West are too self absorbed, they cannot tolerate a tiny bit of inconvenience, instead they jump to conclusions and complain. They resort to painkillers and Anti-depressants for their tiny bit of stress and inconvenience. People in the Asia have to deal with making a living for themselves and their families. So we work really hard and tolerate inconvenience here and there. We prefer to "just get on with it". .. and this is what makes us mentally stronger.

Edgar Cayce once said that eventually China would become “the cradle of Christianity, as applied in the lives of men.” And Cayce promised amazing changes in the country that would lead to more democracy and greater religious freedom. He also suggested that eventually the height of civilization would move from the West to the Chinese people: “And these will progress. For, civilization moves west.” What this man said 80 years ago are truly manifesting upon now in front of our very eyes.

Agree that there are also bad things in China, like all other countries/cities. There are also good guys and bad guys you may meet. However, that depends on whar aspect, right? To me, personal safety is the top. I won't go to visit places that might risk my life or being robbed. Compare to America and some EU cities, gun shoot, homeless, robery ,subway scared me. Unlike China, all agree that personal safty are good for most of the time.

Life in China isn't perfect. Life in ANY country isn't perfect (not even in Switzerland). I live in Canada and there's plenty to bitch about here. Still, life in China is pretty damn good. I feel jealous. The issue is not about the quality of life in China. The issue is about political ideology. China is not a liberal democracy. Western critics and bigots have a problem with that. If China were a liberal democracy, they couldn't bash China. Well, I suppose they could still bash China in the same way that they could bash Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines...any country whose culture is too different from their own. It boils down to _xenophobia._

The thing that upset me about China was I looked at Australia without the rose-coloured glasses. Particularly the "China Bad" government and media. Almost everyone I tell about China will argue. You would think they were the ones that had been there.

Too much generalisation. All the "bad points" mentioned are also applicable to other countries ALL OVER the world. @13:40 People in Asian societies are too busy trying to earn a living, trying to do well financially for their family. This is why they do not have time to DWELL on mental problems. Unlike Western people with too much time and wealth, they dwell on their mental problems. They exaggerate on their problems of coping with life and work. They dwell on their WOKE culture. @13:16 Now, this point about Marriage, the Western concept of "LOVE" is based on Physical Attraction. This is why Divorce is easily the way out when this Physical Attraction is gone. Eastern concept of Marriage tends to emphasize on respect and duties to one's partner, emphasize on financial support and compatibility. Such marriages last because they are based on reality, not just physical attraction. **Other generalisation in the video, I leave them for foreign viewers themselves to research further.

Depending on who or where you are compared to. If you compare China to Utopia, China has nothing great about it.
