We use to always book balcony cabins. Tried interior and now always book inside for several reasons. #1 reason is noisy people on their balcony. We had to move cabins because of loud people on their balcony.#2, Interior is perfect for sleeping because it is so dark #3, don't feel pressured to stay in cabin. #4, lower price. # always pick my cabin to make sure we don't have noise from above, below or beside. Yes, we can do that with balcony but it will cost way more. We have an interior booked for British Isle cruise in spring. No point having a balcony since it will be night most of the time when sailing. We can also use savings on excursions to explore ports.

Solo traveler and happy inside. For all the same reasons. Some said I was nuts for taking an inside cabin to Alaska. But I was able to do 14 days inside for less than 7 nights with a balcony. And the public decks gave me far better views of the awesome scenery than I would have had from some small balcony off a room.

Ahh, I totally agree! I’ve often found I can cruise for longer by staying in the cheaper cabins - I’m so glad I’m not alone with that! I found this in both Norway and Alaska - you save so much cruising on the inside for those routes!

I have tried but I hated inside cabins. I cannot be in air conditioning all the time, I need fresh air. I hate how dark they are or artificial light, nothing like a bright sunny ocean view from my balcony. And finally I need the balcony space to relax and get away from the crowds and enjoy my private view

We have cruised for 40 years and ALWAYS had interior cabin. But much has changed in that time, one of those things is the available space to lounge on the Promenade deck. Ships have less outside access now. TOO often we are struggling to find a seat. The chair hogs at the pool have come down to this area too! Also, it depends on what KIND of cruise we are on...If it is to new ports and exciting itinerary, then inside for sure because we are rarely there! But much of the time we just want to sleep late, eat, relax and read...while watching the sea! So we have discovered that we love the balconies for that. The other thing I would like to see you mention... is the possibility of getting a BAD balcony cabin. Some are forward facing and very windy, some are too near the pool deck (and noise), some have weird situation, like solid metal walls where you cant see thru when you are sitting, and some are above the smoking area! We definitely 'you tube' specific rooms on the ship before we book a balcony, you will be surprised how much you can learn ahead! Thank you for your video!

I am a solo traveler and ALWAYS stay in an inside stateroom. You hit the nail on the head. Give me the quietness. And you don't always get a balcony with a view. If you dock portside an have a starboard cabin, you still get an ocean view. So why pay several hundred dollars more. The promenades are free for all. And I also object to "solo supplements" and usually cruise NCL solo staterooms. Nice job with your video

If I've never done a route before, I try to get a balcony or Oceanview. If I've done the route then an inside is perfect. It's just personal preference. If you're doing a short trip then you might not mind an inside cabin but if you're on a transatlantic for example, you might be thankful you have your own outside space with a balcony when it's stormy weather. It's no fun watching people throw up and then going back to an inside room. I find you notice the movement more. I very rarely get seasick but having fresh air and a view is essential. So plan your trip around the possible weather, the route and your preference. Whatever you choose, a cruise is a great holiday😎

Loved you video. We have just come off our 2nd cruise on the Queen Elizabeth this week. A year ago we were in Balcony cabins and this time we cruised in Deluxe Inside Cabins. All 5 of us preferred the Inside cabins. We had as much room in both types of cabins with the inside being more useful for us and not wasted balcony space. We were seldom in the cabin and if we wished to view the ocean views it was all around us so just left the cabin and viewed it elsewhere. Our next cruise we will sail Inside again as makes so much more sense.

I've only been on 6 cruises so far. The first one was in a club balcony on NCL and I loved it. We had 4 adults in there so the balcony was very much used! Next was in an Ocean View on the Prima, a really nice cabin! The rest were all inside. I enjoyed every cruise equally. I stayed in a solo cabin on NCL and absolutely loved it, even more than a regular inside cabin. Except for that first cruise I spent very little time in any of the cabins. My next cruise with my sister is in 2 months and we will be in an inside cabin.

I'm about to embark on a Transatlantic cruise from Southampton to New York on the Queen Anne. It will be my 2nd cruise with Cunard, first time as a solo traveller. I booked an inside 'guaranteed' cabin as the solo supplement is 80% of the 2 ppl per cabin. Its 8 days till we sail and I still don't have my 'stateroom' number. I guess they're still shuffling passengers around who plumped for an 'upgrade' ! As long as I'm not in a lifeboat when they assign me my cabin, I'll be happy in the inside LOL ! The beds are the same, and, as you said so are the bathrooms. If I want to see the ocean I'd rather view it from a comfy chair in one of the many lounges and restaurants on board with floor to ceiling windows. The entertainment options are the same for everyone and I totally agree that your money is better spent on 'pampering at the spa, and checking out one or two of the speciality restaurants. I'm also a Glaswegian Fraser, you do a great job with these videos :o)

I took my first solo cruise and my first inside cabin in November and it was fabulous. I loved my inside cabin. My husband and I want to go back to Alaska, and I think we'll do inside this time since we had a balcony already. I didn't feel like I missed out on anything being on the inside. We have to fly to cruise so if it means we get to cruise once a year vs. once every other I'm totally about doing inside cabins!

Hi Fraser, I agree with you about inside cabins. I haven’t sailed very much and mainly on ferries which are not the same but the feeling of being in an inside cabin probably is without the luxuries. I have just used it as a place to wash, get dressed, charge my phone and iPad, and sleep with mostly less noise. A couple may feel different, but travelling solo I want to be social and mix, rather than staying on my own, so an inside cabin fits the bill as I am not paying for something I am not using. Thanks for another very good video. I am sometimes slow to watch your videos, as I reserve them to when I have more time to watch, and take in. Other KZbin videos I can often go through in a more speedier fashion. I am interested in what is on the cards for 2025!

Your reason about not wanting to feel pressure to "get your money's worth" by spending extra time in a fancier cabin makes sense to me; it is how I feel about specialty dining. I do not want to feel extra pressure to EAT my money's worth! [This would also apply to drinks packages if I were inclined to drink.]

I always opt for the inside cabin. Almost all the time the cruise line offers me a Balcony for a small (Not the $1,000 you normally pay) fee. And even got bumped a few times for no charge into a balcony. I do prefer the inside for the darkness (I put a nightlight in the bathroom), great A/C or heat control, quiet and GREAT sleep! Been to most rooms and by far my favorite is the inside.

Can’t agree more. Inside cabins are comfortable and my light disturbed spouse sleeps like a baby. You actually save proportionately MORE when you choose inside on certain voyages. Like Alaska. I’ve done Alaska for 10 and 11 day cruises, this year and last, both on inside cabins. And both times the price of a standard balcony got to 3x the cost of interior. One of the reasons I could do Alaska in back-to-back years was choosing interior. And we had such an awesome time… I saw whales from the ship every day but one this year! I’m not against balconies! My next cruise is with one: booked it that way from the start. They are a private usable patio at best, or at worst, a large picture window. But do I need it: nope! So many reasons to go interior!
@FraserAtSea
@FraserAtSea 18 күн бұрын
Wow - to pay THREE TIMES for a balcony is insane! I do see the same though, for places like Norway and Alaska. I’ve cruised ‘on the inside’ for both of these itineraries, and absolutely loved my cruises and felt super connected to the sea. Thanks a lot for watching!

I've found the best way to book is to go for a solo insider and work the upgrade when the price is right... I'm on Brilliant Lady next year and the insider was around £1,600 when I booked. The lock it in for restricted view sea terrace dropped to £1,800 so, as I'm definitely committed with flights and hotel paid to going to New York (I blame you and your stunning video on the sailaway you had,) I have gone for that as I don't think I'll do any better... Anyway, thank you for inspiring me to book a cruise and I hope you have a fantastic Christmas!

On an inside room, I always put the TV on showing the ships forward camera, and leave it on,, In your cabin as it gets dark so does the TV over night as it gets lighter so does your TV then it is morning you have not expericenced a dark interiour cabin but normal daylight

We usually book an inside cabin and often on a lower floor midships. They are often quieter and if the sea is rough it is much less bouncy. They are certainly not much smaller if any at all. The times we've stayed in balcony cabins the passengers around us have been very loud and inconsiderate of others or been subject to noise from the anchor or staff doing their jobs.

Hello Frasher, So glad to stumble onto your videos! My husband and I first booked a balcony room on HAL 35-Night VOV (Voyage of the Viking) for July-August, 2025. We then changed to an inside room because the extensive daylight on this cruise will make it difficult to sleep. I was concerned if we made the right decision since this is such a long cruise, and the inside room might be too confining. I feel much better after viewing your video. My husband told me that you are probably from Scotland based on your English. Part of his ancestors were from Scotland , and we always feel a special connection to his ancestral homeland. He visited and loved Scotland very much decades ago. I will finally get to see Scotland during this upcoming cruise. We will have one day at Glasgow., Aug. 8. Any suggestion on what to do there? Thank you for your videos! Had subscribed to your channel. Happy New Year!

Hello! Don’t worry - that cruise sounds amazing, and I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine on the inside - just get out and explore around the ship! Delighted to hear you’re coming to Glasgow - that is indeed my city of birth, and I adore it there! You should head into the city centre, check out the shopping, and also the beautiful cathedral. The West End of the city is also a really great vibe - worth a subway ride out to there if time allows! Have a great trip, and thanks so much for subscribing to my channel! 😊

Did a balcony on my Panama cruise, it was super cheap, I didn't feel I used it enough. I see how I feel on my next inside cabin. I think the money is better spent on excursions or pre/post stays. if its the same price or splitting room, sure, but I keep the extra cash in most cases.

We love inside cabins. The only negative scenario is that we were cruising when lock down happened. Our 2 week cruise became 5 weeks because no countries would let us dock. For the last 2 weeks of the cruise, we were confined to cabin. This was very depressing as we went for a whole week without light. We were then moved to an outside cabin. It hasn’t put us off - we’ve cruised in an inside cabin since!

I do not mind an inside cabin. I have an inside cabin for the Queen Mary but for the Queen Victoria (Nov 2026) I have an outside cabin with window. That trip is 16 days and it was not much more than the double inside cabin. That trip will be fun it leaves Southampton-the Azores-The Canary Islands- 3 ports in Morocco-Lisbon-Southampton. I usually prefer an inside cabin because I am usually charged the 100% solo supplement. If money wasn't an object, I would prefer any room that is around the middle of the ship 😊(to minimize rocking), surrounded up, down, and around by other rooms (to minimize noise), and on the larger side with level access to the bathroom (because of my disability). I'd be happier with an inside room mid-ship than a balcony room at the front of the ship, for instance. I can't wait to hear how you avoided paying the 100% supplement.

Nice explanation, thanks Fraser! I will always be team balcony. For me, cruising is about traveling on the ocean. Several hours a day are spent on that balcony taking in all the ocean offers while having the privacy to do so. That's why I'm not a fan of super hot weather cruises. As much as I'd like to try a Med cruise, I would roast. 😂 I'm often a solo traveler; sometimes the price is painful. 😁

Hi Fraser! I’ve only stayed in balcony cabins, which I love, but I’m open to trying an interior stateroom. I’m eyeing a Holland America cruise in spring in 2026, and I think an interior cabin just makes sense. Interior is half of a balcony cruise fare! Fraser, I have to ask: I believe you said you live in the UK. Were you born and raised in Scotland? Inquiring minds want to know! Blessings ❤️

Ahh, you so should try Holland America - I’ve found their inside cabins to be wonderful, and you’re right - MUCH cheaper than a balcony! I was indeed born and raised in Scotland - the outskirts of Glasgow - can you tell?! 😊 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I can do any cabin. I do prefer a balcony for Alaska sailings.

Yeah, I’m indifferent - happy on the inside of it saves me the money! I can understand that for Alaska - I didn’t feel I needed one, but do appreciate why people love to have it for that region! Thanks for watching!!

I cruised 3 times in a balcony but like you said I felt that I’m wasting my money if I don’t spend time on my balcony. Weird logic as money is already spent. I went once on NCL viva’s studio cabin. Space was enough for me but missed the fresh air from keeping the balcony open. To save money on SS, I will consider inside cabin next time.

Yeah, I totally agree - thanks for your comment! I feel so much pressure to spend time in there to avoid wasting money, which doesn’t feel pretty ridiculous 😂

as I cruise solo they charge double so I have to book an inside cabin but my next cruise in February I got an outside cabin cheaper than an inside cabin 😻

Oh, I totally hear you - don’t worry! It’s great when you get little wins like that, isn’t it? I’ve even had it before where it’s been a ‘free upgrade’ to a balcony - I won’t turn that down! 😂

You missed one huge reason to book an inside cabin: time changes! If you are just cruising in the Caribbean or to Alaska from the states then there aren’t many time zones to cross. Cruise more East/west routes like transatlantic or transpacific, Mediterranean or SE Asia and there can be numerous times zones to cross. An inside cabin lets you set your wake schedule and you can ease into the time changes much easier.

I like an inside cabin especially when it is cold outside.

Good one, Fraser, follow your logic. Like most people, we've stayed in a variety of cabins, but in the main, insides are fine ! A question, tho, was the size of your VV solo cabin the problem, or was it the layout/floor plan? And how did it compare to say an NCL solo stateroom? 🎄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Hope your journey up wisnae blawin' a hoolie too much ! 😂

Hey! Thanks for watching, Stephen! I’d say with VV it was probably the size - I actually felt the layout was pretty well thought out! I’ll maybe give that room another go, but maybe ‘too soon’ for now, haha!

Also, it probably was very similar to an NCL Studio, but the added amenities really sold that one to me!

I get claustrophobic so inside cabins are not for me. I need a window that opens but love a balcony. It’s better for me to do one balcony cruise than 2 inside cabins.

Ahh, I do hear this to be honest. I guess it’s the flip to how I feel - I don’t experience claustrophobia, so it’s not an issue for me. Thanks a lot for watching this video and therefore supporting my little channel!
