One drawback (?) is when you read on your back in bed and fall asleep you miss the experience of haviing a heavy book fall on your face. That connection to the physical world is one I value.

I can't agree more, I ADORE my Oasis purchased in 2020, I hoping for an upgrade tho because it's freezing a little bit, my kindle is EASILY the BEST purchased I've ever made in my entire life.

A big reason is that I can change and enlarge the font, with my eyesight being not great even with my contacts and glasses some print and how close lines are is too difficult for me to read. Lifesaver to be able to increase font size and choose fonts that are easier for my eye to follow. Also being able to change the font to Open Dyslexic is incredibly helpful for me to read without drifting as much. Thanks for sharing your experience, appreciate your content.

Great content! Way to make it very informative and funny. I can totally relate to nearly all of the reasons (e.g., no distractions, reading multiple books at a time, being able to easily and quickly get in some reading while waiting somewhere, notes integration and access across multiple devices, better reading in the dark or in bright sunlight ).

One of the things I like about my Kindle is what you mentioned about Pdfs. A lot of books I'm reading are out of print, but I can find digital copies and port them over to my Kindle. And everything else you said!

recently got the paperwhite kids after watching some of your videos. I've mostly been using it to read Comics 😅. I've read so much in just a few days as compare to years ago.

0:53 whilst I don’t know this for a fact; I fully believe this is why we read so much faster on an ereader than on printed books. I went through a whole series in 4 days and when I seen the thickness of the printed books I was sooo surprised 😮 I definitely did NOT think it was that thick.

well before I ever had any type of E-book, I read 3-5 novels a week on average. I was an avid fan of paper books, the tactile sensations, the physical weight and feel of the pages were an actual part of my enjoyment. in 2009 I was given a Kindle from a good friend. Earlier that month, they were laughing at me for complaining that every time I have to go to the VA hospital 300 miles away from my house, on the shuttle bus they provide I would actually carry more volume and weight in paper books than I would clothes, medicines, and the charger for my wheelchair. because of the 8 hour each way trip, I would actually read more in those trips than I would in almost twice the time at home. I now carry a library with me everywhere I go. I still love the tactile sensations of paper books, but for many reasons ( including reading at night ) I would not want to go with out my Kindle ever again. I even bought an arm that can hold my kindle in the right position over the raised head of my hospital bed ( I have one in my home) so I dont have to hold the book in place. I am a 55 year old disabled vet, I am NOT a "tech" guy in any sense of the word, but I have embraced my kindle with vigor.

Great video, but you left out three huge benefits to ebooks: they weigh nothing, take up no space, and aren't damaged by fire or water. I'm moving house right now, and I'm having to transport ~6500lbs of physical books a long distance, and then find somewhere to shelve them in a considerably smaller residence. Of course, there are corresponding downsides to the Kindle ecosystem: you don't really own the books, they can be altered without notice or consent, and their future is somewhat of a hostage to (Amazon's) fortune. The format also doesn't really work well for technical books with diagrams and/or formulae and equations, and many of my physical books fall into that category.

I’ve recently had to do this and my Partner consistently whined about half of the boxes were books, and like yourself I’m used to having a spare room as my study to now having my books in boxes as I currently don’t have the space. In saying that I am still buying books 🤦🏽‍♀️ ridiculous considering I’ve got 80% of my TBR are unread books, in saying that once I read them, if I don’t collect it or plan to reread it, I’ll be unhauling it.

Just fyi, dont but a Kindle in Canada. Buy a Kobo instead because it integrates with all libraries and you can rent out books for free from your local library. In general, it has a lot more features for Canadians too.

Agree, Kobo tends to be a better choice in a lot of countries outside of America!

Yes this is definitely the case for people outside the USA. I’ve just managed to get my Kindle working with USA libraries so basically for my position Kindle is doing the job. In saying that, I’m still looking at the Kobo Libra 2 for the page turn buttons as I feel the Oasis is too outdated to purchase now.

Nice video, thanks for creating it. I have just started to use my Kobo e-reader, returned recently the Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition, did not like it at all. I largely agree with what you note, apart from my e-reader of choice being a Kobo. As long as you like an e-reader it shouldn't matter if it is a Kindle or a Kobo :)

Kindle or Kobo doesn't matter at the end of the day, as you said :) I'm so glad you're enjoying your Kobo!

@@Maneetpaul Indeed, there are some great positives to ebooks. Just an observation, understanding there is an association with Amazon, are you now more focused towards Amazon and Kindle, rather than having other e-Reader content.? Just noting your most recent videos.... Thanks

@@Vimes. Yeah, I've been focusing on the Kindle ecosystem. That's what I enjoy the most, and it's hard to talk about everything. I'm always experimenting though, so I'm sure other types of videos will be around too :)

May I ask why you prefer the Kobo over Kindle?
@Vimes.
@Vimes. Жыл бұрын
@@Nikkilodean19 I suppose a big part of it is just familiarity but also the UI. I can't link a screenshot, YT will delete my post if I did, but I like the bottom thickened bar that fills up as you read the book, giving a visual indicator of how far you have read. Also the page numbers at the bottom. Again showing how many you have read and how many there are in total. At the top there is also the chapter position. How much you have read within the current chapter. There maybe other things that I am forgetting and whilst each might only seem small they do add up, if you are used to them, to a preferred reading experience. There are good things also about the Kindle and if I hadn't used the Kobo I would have been more than happy with using it, but the Kobo just works for me. Altho I have not used it as yet, so I do not know how good it will be, but I believe that I can connect to a library with the Kobo in the UK. That should be interesting. My wife recently bought a Kobo Libra 2, she loves the physical buttons on the reader.

One thing you didn't mention was free books. I read casual, fiction books and Goodreads will bring up books on sale for free. These are usually to introduce you to a new series. But getting a book for free to decide if you like a series is awesome!

I mostly prefer to read paperbacks because it allows me to cut down my screen time for an hour or two each day, but I can see how an ereader would be the better option.

The Kindle has a front-lit e-ink display, so it's a quite different experience from using a conventional backlit screen, and much more like reading a printed page.

An ereader wouldn’t be considered as screen time as Stephen mentioned it’s like reading a printed book, nothing like your phone or iPad screens.

If I may, recommend some good books. An open mind is required to fully utilize the techniques in these books, but “The Sedona Method” by Hale Dwoskin is a wonderful book about releasing your emotions, and “feeling Great” By David Burns, is how to reframe your thinking patterns. These books have transformed my mental and emotional well being, so I felt like it was the best decision to recommend these books to you. Thank you for your wonderful videos. You were the reason I bought my kindle and the reason I got into reading. Thank you!

Okay I am debating trading in my oasis for the new paper white. I heard the battery life is so much better. What do you think?
@Nikkilodean19
@Nikkilodean19 Жыл бұрын
It would come down to could you live without your page turn buttons? As theoretically this is the ONLY difference between the Oasis and the Paperwhite now, and ofcourse the handle design of the Oasis.
@steveallen8281
@steveallen8281 Жыл бұрын
The other difference is that the Oasis uses the obsolete micro USB and the newest Paperwhite the more broadly compatible USB-C. I can personally attest that Paperwhite battery life is vastly better than Oasis.

Which is the best Kindle? The Oasis? Which model and why?
@Nikkilodean19
@Nikkilodean19 Жыл бұрын
It all depends on what your needs are. If you want portability and that’s it I’d go for the basic Kindle; it has dark mode, back light, extremely small (pocketable) but it’s not waterproof. If you prefer a larger screen, warm light and waterproof I’d go the PW (wouldn’t bother with signature as the only difference is that the latter has 32gb and wireless charging which is a moot point considering these devices hold weeks of charge). If you want page turn buttons your only option is the Oasis but PW has all the Oasis features minus buttons. Scribe…well personally I don’t think this is quite in the running yet; it’s like a beta device. It’s far too big as an ereader and I don’t like the fact you can’t annotate on the page so essentially the annotation is exactly as the other Kindles but with a pen, and if that’s really important to you, you can get one that works on the other Kindles.

I wouldn't really judge a book by its cover nowadays because most books have the most boring covers imaginable. I buy books based off of reviews or descriptions. However there are few exceptions to this. I got this book called The Haar because it had a sick cover. One complaint I must say with some kindle books is they have the WORST descriptions on the store. Some of them don't tell you anything about the book and just drivel on about crap. I shouldn't have rely on reviews to find out what something is about
