I'm curious how the volume control works then. As we know, you can adjust the sensitivity of each Transmitter from the Receiver menu. But what happens when you don't use the Receiver and just record as you did? Also, side question, I'm assuming the track that you download from the Transmitter memory is mono, right? You can't benefit from the safety feature when using just the Transmitter.

Nice review Jevon, thank you! I’ve been considering this kit and this video sealed the deal! For me, one big advantage is having the units show up as a hard drive. I don’t like it when companies take an approach to proprietize something that doesn’t need to be and making a simple task into a much more difficult workflow.

Great review, and the mic sounds excellent. What I'd like to have seen is how both mics work together. With a couple of the the two-mic systems I've seen (especially the Comica, for example), the quality of the signal drops substantially when you're using both transmitters. Also, are you able to choose channels with these transmitters, or did I miss that somehow in this video?

Looks super versatile and I love it, definitely i would consider with what i'm working on right now. however biggest issue i hear out of the gate is the pre-amps. for professional sound its not acceptable, the compression is super high and sounds really thin. functionality: Thumbs up. Sound Quality: cheap. still going to stick with my clunky Sennheiser lavs. plus most filmmakers are not professional sound engineers. it would be great if Rode/DJI could pack a good pre-amp into it or a better mic. or both. still exciting to see where we are heading with sound tech though, im sure they will solve this soon enough.

Love the video. Agree with your reasoning overall. One thing I'd like to see from DJI to make this product even better would be a handheld attachment like the Rode Interview mic kit for the GO II. Its a minor thing, but I really love how the GO II is so easy to swap between handheld and lavalier. For company streams of live events, the longer battery life on the Go II and the option to do a quick swap to a handheld at a moments notice is a huge value for me. Overall, I love the direction DJI is doing here and I am exciting for them to disrupt the production gear space.

This right here is my only worry. For vox-pops eg, people feel more willing when they see an actual looooong interview mic 🎤 pointing at them. Traditional interview style hits the right nerves. On a second thought, the primary goal is clean audio, isn't it? The transmitters will still do a great job when clipped on the interviewee. Probably that's the part of the DISRUPTION we're not ready for..

Thanks Devin. That train shot was dope! I purchased the Hollyland Lark 150 a good while back. It’s the lesser known one that first made the charge case everyone now copies! Quick question, can the mute and record buttons on transmitter be locked or disabled? I wouldn’t want the talent to accidentally press a button. It would likely rule out my idea of strapping it to a handheld mic for wedding toasts. 😕

As a pro, you should know that the Rode system was ACTUALLY designed by audio professionals, not a Chinese company that is focused on drones. The Rode system actually records in it’s own native RAW audio format, and allows you to export 32Bit float files, which have infinite digital gain - fully eliminating the possibility of clipping. Pair it with the Countryman B6 like I did, and your audio quality will vastly outperform anything that comes from DJI.

Avoiding Rodes proprietary software to extract the audio alone is a HUGE win for this system! I personally prefer tactile buttons and/or dials with some rotary stops on it, but maybe the touch screen will work out too. Usually small mics have a high amount of hissing sound and don't do very well on low end. You can correct some of these issues in post but not entirely. Regardless, it looks like a great product from a company that has a reputation for delivering great products.

@@Danefrak I want to do this setup so the mic is not in the shot. I actually bought this mic. It's pretty awesome but the sound quality isn't that great. It's great for run-and-gun type of shooting. Not so much for professional-grade production. I also tried connecting it to a Rode mic to get a better sound but the mic picked up the magnetic field of the battery in the rode mic and there's this buzzing sound. I've also heard about interference problems with the Rode Go 2. I'm currently having big problems with my Rode Go 1 (and that's why I'm interested on all kinds of videos and data on both so that I can upgrade). But it seams both have interference problems and half of those are actually because of the poor camera shielding. So maybe other cameras give other results. You can actually listen carefully after 7:50 in this video, when there is silence. There is a bit of interference. You can mitigate it by mounting the Receiver further away from the input jack of the camera (if you have a cage).

I'm a little confused as to how the Stereo/Mono/Safety switch works when using 2 Transmitters. Here's what I know: - Stereo makes it so that T1 is on the Left Stereo track and T2 is on the Right - Mono makes it that you camera is going to be capturing Identical audio on both Left and Right, so if you don't want to mix in post (or you have other plans) you could use both Transmitters on 2 people that talk pretty much at the same volume. They will be mixed and you can't individually edit them (but the cool thing is that if you record on both transmitters you can swap the mono audio with the 2 recorded tracks and you're back to editing individually) - NOW: What does Mono + Safety do when you have 2 Transmitters? Does it still mix T1 and T2 together both on the Left and on the Right channel, however the Right channel is going to have them mixed, but at -6 dB? Or is it just a feature to be used when you only have 1 Transmitter?
@rafaelunplugged
@rafaelunplugged 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the signal for the mono + safety is the mixed BUT one is a lower decibel level. So say someone laughs really loud and the audio clips, you have the backup track at lower db that is still clean and non clipped. So in post you'll have to choose one channel to double in stereo or else your exported video will have one channel at lower db, which I think is usually left. Which will be obvious especially when users watch with headphones

Absolutely, I need a secondary mic to record screen captured tutorials and also lots of notes. This device could be a single solution for both. The fact that it does not need proprietary software is huge. Please tell me if the transmitter can be used as a USB microphone in addition to acting like an SD card, cause if it can, it can be a one stop solution for most audio.

The number one reason that Jeven didn’t talk about is you can set the gain of the DJI system so that it doesn’t clip. My RODE Wireless Go II will clip no matter how I set the gain or pad. It’s the biggest issue with that system and a real shame for an otherwise great system.

Yes you can't change the Gain for the actual receiver itself- just the gain for what the camera gets from the receiver (which clips so easily even at -30dbs). Returning it.

90% of the features you mentioned are also in Rode Go2 for half of the price. I actually prefer the smaller size of Rode

DJI should pay you because you did a masterful job highlighting the features of this product. I was about to buy the Rode version but then this video popped after I watched another video about theirs and you just killed it! You slaughtered it!
