I think Cirrus builds the best looking truck campers, inside and out. And I also like the Alde system, and the stargazer window is my favorite item. I hope it doesn't leak over time. I also just wish Cirrus would build their campers like Northern Lite and Bigfoot truck campers. Their two piece fiberglass molds are superior to the way all other truck campers are built. And lastly, I wish Cirrus had more solar, more lithium battery options, an inverter, and a more powerful pre-wired way to charge their camper batteries off of the trucks second alternator. A quieter generator would be nice, too. Other than those improvements, I love the Cirrus!

Great video. It pays to research what you’re buying and especially something you’re going to be living in. Looks like it suits your needs. In my case the truck I bought was being sold as a package deal including a camper. A Lance 992 with 2 slide outs. But the type of camping we are planning on doing it will suit us. The extra room with the slide outs is nice although the camper is heavy. 4500 lbs. I did some research on different brands and liked the northern lite made in Canada. But it has no slide outs. After having the slide outs I kind of like them. I was curious about your hot water heating system so I’m glad you covered that. I’ve got a lot to learn we only got the camper last year and only had it out twice before winter. I enjoy watching your travels. There’s some beautiful country side in the USA. Safe travels.

Thanks for watching and commenting! It sounds like you got a great package deal! I looked and looked when we were buying and never found anything that worked for us. There are many days we wish we had slides, we would love some extra space. However, there are also many days we are happy to have a simpler setup. It's all about trade-offs. I agree that Northern Lite is really high quality and I love the clam shell design. When I compared features, size and price, it just didn't tick all the boxes. If I had a magic wand, I'd make the perfect camper for myself!

@@Stonyboot -A Palomino wouldn't hold up for full time camping the way some other brands are deigned to do. I says in the warranty agreement that full time camping voids the coverage. Is there any power in the bed space near the pillow side of the bed? My wife uses a cPap machine and we need power up there!

Keep the vids coming guys! Thanks!

Great questions. Our GVWR is 14,000 lbs and we are at 13900-14100 depending on how much water we carry. We can go lighter if we need to. As Truck Camper Magazine outlines in their excellent articles, you do want to match your truck/camper properly. Our truck has a payload capacity of about 5,000 lbs, (5,250 I think). We use all of that. Keep in mind, we have the bikes, bike rack, and lots of equipment. We have our whole life in here. The Cirrus campers are a little heavier than some of the similar campers. Much of that weight (I think) comes from the wood cabinets and and overall building materials. We bought the biggest, heaviest payload truck we could so we wouldn't have a payload issue in the future. We also love having a dually! If we had time, we could have ordered a dually truck with a gas engine and that would have afforded us some additional payload capacity. Same with having a Crew Cab truck, that adds a lot of weight. Always check the GVWR listed on the truck. Let me know if you have other questions, its a big topic and hard to fully explain in a comment. TCM has great resources on their site for matching trucks/campers.

@@Stonyboot Thanks a bunch for the reply, and sorry for taking so long to respond. We've been going through quite a weather trip here in Houston of late as you might have heard. Yes, this is a topic that needs it's own website I think, and you're right, TCM is a great place for such knowledge. I have recently signed on and am trying to catch up on truck camper news and happenings. It seems like y'all made a great choice with the dually! You would need it for that camper alright. I know I won't be carrying heavy toys (no bike plans yet, and definitely no ski/boat equipment, and nothing towed). Besides, I'm not one who tends to overpack. For these reasons, I have been considering a RAM 2500 (4010 lb. payload 6.4L HEMI V8) and favoring the NuCamp 720 and maybe even the 820 models. The heavier 2021 Cirrus 820 weighs 3253 lbs (wet, with batteries included). This looks like a pretty good combo to me. I don't plan to live in it full time (let me add, 'yet'!) The dually of course, has that solid structure appeal, and I'm sure that's why you guys like it. (Any other reasons why you like your dually?) I hadn't even considered the additional weight of the crew cab, always thinking that it would be a storage area when only 2 travelled, but you're right, I might not need it. There's so much to consider, and once again I am thankful for folks like you who make this info readily available. Keep those vids coming! Happy trails!

@@Stonyboot cleaver designs and they look very durable for Overlanding and the type of dirt bike adventures we do. I’ve watched almost every video I could find. I was set on the Cascade Host camper but starting to think that’s overkill
@Stonyboot3 жыл бұрын
If you look at the second video we did, Marcus has his dual-sport bike mounted to the back. It’s a slick setup. They are building the campers to be really durable and long lasting. The build quality is phenomenal! Definitely reach out to them if you have any questions, they are easy to contact, responsive and very customer oriented!

Thanks! And, I agree, it is heavier than other similar models. Like with all campers, there are tradeoffs. The Alde was the deciding factor for us and we are still thrilled with it! But It would be nice if NuCamp could put the cirrus on a diet!

Our goal has always been to go off the beaten path, and we sacrificed space choosing a truck camper. And we just got used to using less water, so it's not that big of a deal to us anymore :)

Why did you not want to use the factory generator?
@Stonyboot3 жыл бұрын
It was a $4k option, it's not easily removable, only runs on propane and is much louder than a Honda. It would be quick and easy to use, but our usage isn't typical. At this point, I haven't used it since we did our alternator charging system. I'd like to get rid of it at some point soon.
@gordon39883 жыл бұрын
Great video! Comprehensive and very well done! Curious what your battery system is? We are not a fan of generators, they tend to ruin the peace and quiet for everyone, but the Honda is one of the quietest. In our RV we have 300 amps of lithium batteries and can run everything for several days (likely even more if somewhere you can top up with solar). Does this model come with lithium? Last, are you in anyway sponsored by Cirrus? Just helps to know.
@Stonyboot3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. The battery system is a custom design and I’ll have more information about it coming soon. When we don’t use the laptops our batteries last for weeks. However, we now use the microwave, hair dryer and AC more often when power permits. It’s been really nice having the extra juice. No sponsorship with Cirrus/NuCamp. If we were, we would make that very clear in the beginning of the video. Keep in mind, this video was purely about the reasons we purchased this camper, it’s not a full review of how it’s held up or any of the pros/cons. We plan on doing a 2 year review and going over some details of the repairs and problems we have had (very few). We also want to make a video about the research process. But I have about 8 videos in the pipe like to complete before we start on that.

How much solar can you put on and how many batteries do you have room for?
@Stonyboot3 жыл бұрын
I can get about 600 watts on the roof, maybe 700-800 with newer flexible panels. As for the batteries, I have them under the dinette in the factory location. However, I’ve made lots of changes. Right now I have 2 lithium batteries with a total of 600 AH of capacity. I also have an upgrade coming soon.

Is the Cirrus a true four season camper in terms of protecting the tanks , pipes and wondering about the insulation for retaining heat especially in the winter ? It is one of the camper brands on my list , how does it compare to other brands for year around use , all four seasons ? By the way , great videos !
@Stonyboot2 жыл бұрын
It is a 4 season camper. Fully enclosed and heated. If your primary use will be winter camping, a camper like Northern Lite or Bigfoot might be a better option. If you plan on mostly warm weather camping with the occasional winter trip, a cirrus works well. Since it’s aluminum framed, you will have more condensation than a fiberglass or wooden camper. Another great option, with a Truma heating system is Kingstar. They have excellent build quality and insulation.

Do you guys go off road and if so, does the truck have or need 4 x 4 ?
@Stonyboot2 жыл бұрын
We do light off road driving. Forest roads, desert trails, etc. Nothing extreme, but just what is needed to get to some remote locations. For me 4x4 is a must with any truck. Some people use 2x4 trucks for highway driving and campground camping. I have needed to use 4x4 on many occasions. Additionally, I’ve used 4 low to allow me to creep down rocky and rutted roads at a comfortable snails pace. 4 low is also great for giving you control while climbing on top of leveling blocks cover curbs if you get into a pinch and descending steep hills. I’m from NH and snow is in my blood. So, having 4x4 is a requirement for any truck I buy. However, you can get away without it if you keep your travels simple and don’t venture anywhere you shouldn’t.

Is a 3/4 ton 4×4 heavy duty enough for this camper
@Stonyboot3 жыл бұрын
It would depends on your payload capacity. It might work, but chances are, you will be over weight if you pack much in there. If you are just doing weekend camping from a home base, you'll probably be fine. Check your weight ratings, and then check them again!
