Great video with valid points. I think that the best of both worlds is: 1. Host your own media server (Plex, Jellyfin, etc) 2. Rip your physical media and store it digitally on your server 3. Stream it wherever and whenever

"Takes up too much space." But that's why movie rental stores were so great. You can rent them, enjoy watching them, and return it back when you are done. No space required except for a small temporary space.

Agree. Although, this never phases me because I’m a collector. I don’t mind providing the space. Besides, I only choose titles I know I will love and re-consume for years to come. If it was only alright, of course, I’ll opt for streaming. Usually free, but if it’s available on a service I already pay for then I’ll watch there. I still prefer free streaming. There’s so many rules with legal ones. Like Netflix has InuYasha, but they didn’t think it was necessary to pay for the music rights? Now that just broke my heart. The whole reason I wanted to rewatch was for the OPs and EDs. It’s such a downgrade without them. Even though, I appreciate Netflix getting creative by using the OST if the music rights were really not possible. Or CR and all their crashes back in the mid 2010s and CR not caring about the old titles. Only new seasonal titles mattered. All of the streaming services get on my nerves at times. Every single one of them. Physical media all the way! Free streaming if I’m not willing to pay for the blu-ray. Or if it’s not on my list of legal streaming. I tend to stick with Netflix, HiDive, and Hulu depending on how I feel throughout the year. I might try out CR again one of these days, since they’ve “improved” so, I’ve heard. That’s always the story with hardcore CR fans. They could truly do no wrong with some. Still, I’m not over their BS from the 2010s and I’m not sure if I want to support their aims towards monopoly.

At the same time, they’re a company like all the rest. Sure, it hurts seeing their beginnings to now. Believing they were the hero my generation wanted and thought they were, but maybe I should just consider them a scummy company like all the rest. It’s how the story always goes. But, they’ve got a large anime library. Maybe that’s all that matters. I’m still always gonna support physical though. Always been a physical girlie. Physical books, physical discs, etc. I’m even considering getting a music player again to play CDs now that physical is returning to stores like Target. I still have a few from the 00s on my shelf. They’re on my phone, too, but I really do miss CD players.

These are all reasons I was against Netflix from the very beginning, but people got into Netflix and look what it did to Nickelodeon! They were going to show a new Rocko’s Modern Life movie on Nick in 2018 and he was finally going to come back from outer space, but due to Netflix’s success, Nick canceled the Rocko movie and threw it away to Netflix, becoming a Netflix Original instead! Because of that, it’s not legit Nick canon and Rocko never returned from outer space!

Lots of times streaming services will have shows like Seinfeld in the wrong aspect ratio which is annoying, DVD usually does not have that issue and streaming services also seem to be lacking in special features(Disney Plus has a few but not many compared to DVDs). I think there are good original shows on streaming but lots of times I prefer to buy films on DVD for the sake of convenience as then I don't have to deal with buffering issues on streaming sites.

I agree completely. When I had slower Internet movies would buffer a lot and would change quality constantly which isn’t a fun experience. Special features is another HUGE reasons why I love physical media. So many movies & shows had tons of extras on the discs such as deleted scenes, behind the scenes and making of documentaries that are not included with streaming services.

Interesting. Fun video. I like the character you made complaining about all the name changes for the HBO app (all four app names). You made some good points. I think the video could have gone in depth more on some of the points, though. Or elaborated some more on them. Still a nice video, though. For me, besides ownership, one of the biggest differences and selling points is the exclusive restorations and quality of the discs themselves. Tons of releases on disc feature new/exclusive restorations of 2K and/or 4K scans - often from the original camera negative. Exclusive restorations, higher bit-rates/better encoding, and lossless audio (often from the original master audio tapes from the negatives). So these are big advantages of physical media (for me especially). The streaming versions, if said films are even on streaming services, are sometimes in the wrong aspect ratio, or use dated old masters (either standard-definition or decade-old HD masters with no restoration work), or lossless audio, etc. I think for most people, myself included, ownership is the number one difference but for snobs like myself the advantages of the superior presentations ranks enormously high on the list of positives of physical versus streaming. By the way, you mentioned Coming 2 America as a streaming exclusive title but now it's available on Blu-ray disc.

The last 3 days I've played 3 different 4K movies, all three froze on me. The Sony X700 worked well for a year and now it is unstable. Cue the people who say you need to buy a better 4K player. I will, but even the cheapest DVD and Blu-ray players never froze on me. Hell, we've had DVD's that the kids scratched to bits and they never froze. The 4K format is flawed. Streaming has caught up in quality on several of the services, but not all, but they may as they are constantly improving the codecs. I'll probably grab the damn Panasonic player.

There are some settings that you can change that will probably help. Also, some 4k blu rays, specifically any dolby vision 100gb disc, have an invisible coating of some sort left over from the factory on the disc. Wiping off the disc with a microfiber cloth will also help. I have a Sony UBP-x800 Mark 2 4k Blu Ray Player and changing those settings as well as wiping off the discs worked like a charm!

I used to buy dvds every week before, then i recorded from the tv on vhs tape now i just pirate every film and stuff them on my 5 portable harddrives and connect it to my tv
