Erik Lerström that’s chaos, the way sports should be and it takes incredible skill it’s just with small space they can’t do all they could in a 1v1. less space means more engagement. If people only watch sports for the superstars that’s sad to me. I like the nfl too and football as a sport more but if I’m being honest at the pro level hockey is better. I’ve played both and it’s better to play football and all in high school and college, but NFL players get too much of a sense of entitlement and it ruins it for some people but hockey’s not quite like that. If you watch it or play it it’s honestly easier to understand then football from an outsider

I love hockey best, but there is no question predictably in sports runs inverse to the level of play. Pro sports are predictable because they execute at such a high level. They exhibit great talent and performance consistency. Conversely little league sports are not predictable because they are not as proficient in their execution and they are therefore more influenced by random luck, bad bounces and officiating. The NHL is the league that most often fails to crown the best team as champions. That's a major failure. They have created false parity to keep weaker teams in the game, but every league has historically reached peak interest with the fan base when dynasties exist. Parity is not always good for the game and false parity never is.

As a hockey fan, I really don't understand what people cheer for in basketball. Your team scores a basket, that's great but each individual basket is fairly meaningless. I could see getting excited over a really cool play (particularly if it leads to a basket) but there's a difference in the excitement level of your team doing something it probably does 50 times per game and your team doing something it likely does 2-4 times per game.

I'm a Maple Leafs fan through and through, but seeing Alec Martinez score the Stanley Cup clinching goal at home is my favorite moment in Stanley Cup Final history. Firstly, scoring in sudden death OT to win the Cup in front of the home fans, everyone's pretended that in practice or street hockey with friends in the summer time. Alec Martinez lived it. Secondly, doing it at home in front of your family and fans; nothing more special than seeing your parents, siblings, and friends crying in joy for a lifelong dream come true. Thirdly, since 1970 when Bobby Orr scored his overtime Cup-Clinching goal at home, only 2 others have done that: Bob Nystrom in 1980 for the NY Islanders in Nassau Coliseum, and Alec Martinez in 2014 in Staples Center. Krupp in 1996, Hull in 1999, Arnott in 2000, and Kane in 2010 have all been on the road. Much more epic at home, and a lot more rare. Until the Leafs win the Stanley Cup while I'm alive, Martinez's goal will be my favorite Stanley Cup moment. So either that means it'll change in 5-6 years... or Martinez's goal will remain my favorite. Us Leaf fans are accustomed to thinking the latter.

Last true pure sport left IMO. You don't hear about roids or stupid controversies that are "main stream news." Worse case a team fight or a dirty hit which gets delt with by the league quickly (and policed by the players themselves.)

I haven't been a big fan of hockey since the lockout in 2004-2005. Despite that, I always try to take in as many playoff games as I can. There is nothing else like it. I watched the Warriors-Rockets game today. This is a series between the two best teams in basketball according to most "experts." Compared to the Boston-Columbus double overtime game last night, it felt like a preseason game.

I can't wait for hockey to be introduced to Mexico and Central America, I just realized that my ethnicity's civilization needs us, Americans like me to bring the sport of hockey down to the old country just like the Canadians did in America way back then... We can do it even if it becomes a difficult challenge with the climate difference and all but that's what it will take to evolve my native country into a bad ass Culture of hockey stars and everything that comes with the sport, I mean imagine just having soccer or one unanimous popular sport. Doesn't attract the mind as well as hockey does, but all in all I love hockey and I hope my generation appreciates it more for the future of expanding, easily the greatest sport ever. Much love to all my hockey fans. GoKingsGo!!

@bradyhaukom90485 жыл бұрын
i think they are great because of the fact that there is hardley any skill gap and anything can happen. i mean all 4 wild card teams beat the division champions, and The president trophy winner got swept
@yo-Rowe5 жыл бұрын
There is a huge skill gap. That would be more obvious if the better team on any given night won more often. But the odds of the better team winning a game in the NHL playoffs are close to 50/50. Many teams dominate zone time, puck possession and scoring chances, but still lose. In the end, the refs have much more impact on the outcomes than the players when they randomly choose a half dozen penalties to call from among the dozens of infractions that occur.

anything can happen, like anything, you could idk, be up 4-1 in the 3rd period and have the opposing team score 3 straight to tie it up and win in OT in game 7 of the playoffs..... it still hurts to this day
@iVince9055 жыл бұрын
Your reasoning for 4 and 5 is why NHL is super hard to market. NBA plays their playoffs on primetime slots Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday nights. Only 3 commercials means revenue ads are lower, indirectly affects the popularity of the sport. Lower revenue for Nhl mean they can’t market their teams and players and they can’t even afford to subsidize leagues which will greatly affect the barrier to entry of people who are interested but can’t afford the equipment to play.
