As a professional driver I know my truck if I say it’s unsafe I have and will exercise the right to shut down my unsafe truck until it’s safe. If I do that I get a call from dispatch hey go ahead and come to the yard. We all know that means you’re done. Where are the people protecting us while we are protecting the motoring public. I’m not talking about abusing this so I don’t want to work that day a genuine problem that puts me and other drivers at risk. Oooo yeah I forgot it’s. 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻

Companies lie about the routes. Company hired me to run a city route. After three days, started running me local. After four months, company started running me home daily. Also, my start times changed. Started out at 1800, went to 1700, then 0300, then 0500, and finally to whatever time they wanted. It was a huge mess! They mistreat you and then act surprised when you turn in your notice.

I get it, but half the day of a dispatcher can be redoing paperwork for the driver for 50th time just so the driver gets paid for what he did. And then getting bitched at by the driver because they didn't get paid for specifics that they didn't put in the paperwork to begin with. I took a year off air traffic control to dispatch for some life reasons. It was a good job. I liked my guys. Still talk to a lot of them. Communication is key. Drivers are busy. Also, dispatch is a shit ton of work for 45k.

That’s pretty accurate especially with mega carriers….micromanaging and not running the lanes I prefer are my top 2 for quitting.. but most companies don’t give a dam about what we think…it’s all about the $ with them.. even if they have a 90%+ turnover rate it doesn’t matter to the corporate weenies… just keep that rig filled with drivers.

Very happy with the company I work for. I am currently on off season, we don't start back till spring (end of July). We don't get asked to go over hours (we can't) there is 3 or 4 drivers to a truck. Depending on the shift pattern assigned to that truck we work 3 days 3 nights 3 off. We are contracted to work xxxx hours per season. Once we finish our hours we are done till the new season so you can decide how much time you have off. You can do call backs for cash or hours, so money or finish season faster. We are paid for xx hours fortnightly even in the off season. We are home every night. Our rate of pay is really competitive. This isn't in the UK or the US.

The next 3 plus years I ran west and south and was content with my position and then they took my regular truck and sent me east.On the way back they informed me they had a sick driver in Albany with a load for NYC and I was to backtrack from near Buffalo and switch loads.I said no I'll finish my original dispatch. Messages flew but I ignored them and completed my original dispatch, parked the trailer, took the tractor to the shop to get many repairs and turned in the paperwork. After a brief meeting in the masters office ,I cleaned the truck out and went home never to return.

A big part of the reason l quit is because they changed the lane and yeah l didn't like it .. a lot busier, more dangerous, more tiring.

At least in Europe we have by law a device called a tachograph, whose readings are sent electronically to the authorities and the fines are high enough to ensure that rest periods are met.

Corruption... Example: Tow in PA was several hundred $ more "because state police called" for tow. Cop looked me in the eye and chose not to just tell me to call for tow. He acted like he was doing a courtesy to make the call. Corrupt people will get theirs.

One of the companies I worked for tried to get me to work the first three days of my vacation, and force me to leave my truck (with my gear in it) at their terminal when all of their trucks are on the same key. All while they bus me back home instead of honoring the agreement we made that I could take the truck home. I left them and went to my current company. Got a 50% bump in pay for running the same lanes.

The big problem why the major companies or any company for that matter struggle so much with drawing new talent and retaining drivers beyond the first year in the industry is because the pay is peanuts. If trucking is such an in-demand job why is the starting pay for new drivers out the door not above at a minimum $50,000 a year? For most it barely reaches $40,000.
