Yes, if there isn't an order of Darwinist space wizards forcing your children into a cult and have you fight for your life to become an adult or grow up to become a mindless doll serving a perceived greater good, and if these two factions aren't at war alongside the supporting governments for thousands of years and if there isn't a megalomaniac empire enslaving large parts of the galaxy and if there aren't extragalactic invaders killing trillions of people, the Star Wars Galaxy offers a fairly good life. I'll let you figure out who I mean. The market of terrible empires and states in the Star Wars galaxy is satiated and you can chose between those who mean well and those who don't, not between those who do good and those who don't.

Point 1; The Necrons did not transfer their souls, they transferred their consciousness. Basically creating synthetic copies of their minds, while the C'tan feasted on their organic remains. The result are souless, if intelligent, constructs, and the final order of the Silent King was that the Necrons find some way to regain their biological forms, and thus their souls. Point 2; The Emperor does not consume souls. It is the Astronomican which requires a sacrifice of 1000 Psykers a day. And that's less because of a literal sacrifice, and more because it burns them out like lightbulbs. Point 3; While often claimed, it is incorrect to say that there is no technological progress in the Imperium. It does, but the political structure of the Mechanicus makes it difficult to disseminate new developments due to the secrecy and competition amongst the Magos. They are constantly paranoid of others stealing their secrets, and actively conceal their developments from others as a means to increase their own individual power.

Not really touched upon in the vid, but the Eldar species (now the Aeldari since 8th edition of the game) has fractured into 3 distinct like groups (well, technically 4 I suppose). These are Craftworld Eldar, which typically follow like a regimented training and try to instill discipline into their lives as a way to protect themselves against Slaanesh. The Craftworld Eldar live in space upon a series of massive space ships (think the Navoo but turn it up to 100x the size) called Craftworld's and use a psycho reactive substance called Wraithbone to literally sing their technology into form and shape. Craftworld Eldar use monofilament wire, shurikens and psychic energy to kill peeps, and use a substance called Waystones to capture the souls of their dying to prevent their consumption from Slaanesh. They then make automata and populate it with these waystones to literally use necromancy to protect further generations of their species. The drukhari (Dark Eldar) live in a gigantic ever expanding city called Commoragh that exists in a subdimension called the Webway; which exists between the Immaterium and realspace. The Drukhari are basically what the Eldar were before the fall, and follow all those hedonistic pursuits from the age old time. A strange consequence of the Webway insulates the Drukhari soul against Slaanesh (but not completely), and one of the many reasons why Drukhari raid planets in realspace is to not only get their slave labour on but to use these captured people as sacrifices in ritual slaughter to please Slaanesh by proxy. They do not use psykers like the normal Craftworld Eldar because as they primarily exist in Commoragh, it would be stupid to allow daemons of Slaanesh (and the other flavours) into their home. The other 'main' Eldar species is ironically not really explored to much. At least there isn't a range of them. These are the Exodites. The Eldar had colonized many many worlds and during Slaanesh's birth that created an event called the Eye of Terror, many isolated Eldar worlds managed to 'survive' the fall, and eventually regressed as the Empire was sundered. Typically Exodite worlds do not make use of as much technological advancements as say the Craftworld or Dark Eldar (although this is still advanced relatively against human civilisation), but instead of a lot of vehicles, Exodites make use of their innate psychic abilities to befriend animals and the like (so Eldar riding dinosaurs sort of thing firing beams of heat to melt people). Exodite worlds may have ties to individual Craftworlds or the like, but they are typically viewed as rustic. The fourth technicality are the Harlequins. These are basically dance troupes that move around space seeking to teach even Imperial forces about the dangers of Chaos, and actively work to fight and sabotage Chaos forces. While there is a deep rooted fear of Slaanesh in the psyche of all the Aeldari, Harlequins take a slightly more holistic approach that all Chaos god stuff is bad, not just Slaanesh. They make use of esoteric weapon and wargear such as fractal afterimages to confuse their enemy, and literally flip out and kill people with shuriken and monofilament weapons, and cut people in half with their power swords and the like. They follow the one Eldar god that survived Slaanesh's birth; Cregorach the Laughing God.

@Marauder thats' because everyone forget the Ynarri. But the Ynnari is sort of a religious order I suppose. They worship a being called Ynnead, which is what they believe is a new Eldar god of the dead forming within the Eldar Infinity Circuit (it's sort of a communal phylactery for the souls of the Eldar dead, which living Eldar can use to commune primarily with their dead ancestors). The Ynnari is a relatively 'new' faction that has emerged, and has, for the moment, united the Craftworld, Drukhari, Harlequins (and presumably the Exodites) in a more intense war I suppose against Slaanesh. According to the Eldar, Ynnead is destined to slay Slaanesh at the expense of every one of the Eldar's lives.

Being a commissar is actually one of the _worst_ jobs in the Imperium. Sure, you can blam that sergeant who showed you some lip, but you are expected to *lead from the front.* That means being the first one out of the trench, with your chainsword held high as you charge straight into heavy bolter fire and lasgun volleys. And there's the risk of being fragged by your men if they don't respect you, or they have enough of your shit. Quite often, they can get away with it too--commissars don't tend to have a very long expected lifespan in frontline units.

Event Horizon and Doom are prequels to WH40K.
@ShadowGhost01174 жыл бұрын
DeanOfGameStudies I like how Event Horizon has some kind of representation for each of the big 4 chaos gods. Plenty of blood for Khorne, there was something akin to psychic flames to represent Tzeentch, an allusion of one of the characters kids with what looks like some kind of Nurgle disease corruption, and there was supposed to essentially be a blood orgy scene that would have represented Slaanesh.
@shebbs14 жыл бұрын
Linking Doom to 40K is rather tenuous, more a fan thing than anything official. Event Horizon may be more certain, but even then it suggests fanboy attempts to appropriate the work of others, though it is more the script writer of EH acknowledging the inspiration of 40K.
@Schwarzvogel13 жыл бұрын
@@ShadowGhost0117 There is more to Chaos than just Nurgle, Khorne, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh, though. One can depict Chaos without explicit references to any of the four main Chaos deities. Event Horizon shows quite well what happens to humans who receive even the briefest kiss from the Warp. What makes that film truly terrifying is that there were no daemons or otherworldly monsters--just people doing unspeakable things to one another (and to themselves) with their bare hands and common implements. It makes one wonder about the heart of darkness that is within every person, that under the right circumstances just about anybody could go on a murder orgy that would make Slaanesh blush.
@Schwarzvogel13 жыл бұрын
@@shebbs1 There really is no connexion between Doom and 40K for one simple reason: the demons in Doom can be killed permanently with ordinary guns (one of the most effective weapons in every Doom game since Doom II is a double-barreled shotgun, which is woefully obsolete as a military weapon even in our day and age). The daemons in 40K *cannot* be killed permanently by normal weapons, and many of the more powerful ones are all but impervious to mortal weaponry--which is why the Emperor's Edict of Nikaea before the Horus Heresy was such a boon to the traitor legions (and a huge mistake on Big E's part.)

I think a lot of what humanity turns into in a sci fi depends on who they meet first. Star Trek's United Earth (Vulcans): Just chill bro everything is fine! Star Wars' Core Worlds (Unclear): Those funny looking things are kind of creepy lets keep them out of power. Doctor Who's Earth Empire (Officially The Terrileptils but unofficially a whole load of very lethal nasties): Aliens scare the shit out of us but thanks to a few good experiences we are willing to make a deal occasionally. Stargate's SG Teams (Ga'Olou): Walk softly and cary lots of big sod off guns! Farscape's Earth (Crew of Moya): Dude we are totally not ready for this shit! Meanwhile... 40k's Imperium of Man (Orks): KILL THE XENOS. Kind of understandable in context.

Not really, 40k just took the very harshest tropes of dark fantasy and sci fi from the 1990s and rolled it into one world and let it breed. I don't think they went "Well we need to look more edgy than everyone else." just "Oh those arachnids are cool, yoink, oh those navigators from dune are cool, yoink, oh the whole setting of judge dread is cool, yoink. Oh shit, we've literally created hell...". Remember 40k was invented in a shed by sci-fi nerds in the late 1980s, and while it grows and develops it's core foundations haven't changed THAT MUCH.

@@TheSalamander_ 40K practically store everything they had from other sources. It's hilarious to see 40K fans accuse franchises like Starcraft and Gears of War of plagiarism, when practically everything in 40K was stolen, one way or another: Imperium of Man: ripped off from the Dune/Star Wars story concerning a powerful psychic emperor leading a space fascist empire. Their Space Marines were stolen from Starship Troopers and mixed with some medieval knight aesthetics, while their empire's religion is a word-for-word ripoff of the Catholic Faith. Chaos: Lifted from Michael Moorcock's Elric series and its conception of Chaos, just change "Chaos Lords" to "Chaos Gods" and steal their symbol for Chaos, the eight-pointed star. Eldar and Orks: Tolkien ripoffs, quite literally. Eldar are elves who look down on the less-advanced humans, get into scuffles with them and occasionally help them. Orks are cannon fodder awash with bloodlust who trouble the realms of men. Tau: Lifted from Star Trek's Vulcans and riding around in Battletech mechs, a more enlightened, scientific race that looks down on the emotional and superstitious humans. Necrons: Terminators with feudal houses. Tyranids: Xenomorphs from Alien. 40K fans are in no position to accuse any other franchise of plagiarism, when their series doesn't have an original bone in its body.
@aoofmg66844 жыл бұрын
@@HolyknightVader999 I'm with you on a lot of points but a few are bogus. The Tyranids have nothing to do with xenomorphs. If you want to compare them then most likely to starship troopers bugs. Space marines have literaly nothing to do with Starship troopers except the name. They neither look like gorillas nor do they fly around in their armor (assault troops have jumppacks) they are basicaly highly romantised knights with guns. The imperium of man is a word for word ripoff of katholics? I'd like to see a sentence that proves this. It is Monotheistic and thats it. No heaven or hell or anything like that. And for the 25 millionth time: The empire is NOT fascist. In Star Wars, maybe but not in 40k. And you have forgotten the Warp which is from star trek. The Necrons may look like Terminator but are the classic fantasy undead faction with egyptian style
@HolyknightVader9994 жыл бұрын
@@aoofmg6684 According to the authors themselves, the Imperium is a parody of fascism. That's what I was saying about the Space Marines-they took the name, then made them space knights. Which kinda makes them more a ripoff of the Jedi, except with armor, big guns, and a huge dose of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Tyranids have plenty of similarities with the Xenomorphs from Aliens. Both them and the Zerg share a lot of characteristics from the Xenomorphs, including the whole "stalking prey inside blacked-out starships" thing. The Imperium stole its creed from Catholicism, the aesthetics of Catholicism, and hell itself is at their gates. They even view the emperor the same way Catholicism views Christ. Warp is not from Star Trek. Star Trek Warp is nothing like 40K Warp, which is more in line with Chaos from the Moorcock books.. The Necrons practically ARE Terminators which got the fantasy undead Egyptian shtick slapped into them.

Actually, the Dark Eldar are a minority faction of the Eldar. The majority of the Eldar race are decended from those who saw the fall of their empire coming and evacuated on massive ships known as Craft Worlds. Craft World Eldar are now the majority of their species, and while enigmatic and aloof, they largely don't bother the Imperium unless the humans are in their way. And they're the ones wielding psychic powers. The Dark Eldar, on the other hand, are decended from the handful of aristocrats who survived The Fall and have not given up their cruel ancestors ways, except for giving up their psychic powers to hopefully avoid the gaze of Slannesh. They take slaves not only out of a sense of superiority, but also to torture those slaves to death in order to not have their own souls devoured.
@SomeGuy-qh6rw4 жыл бұрын
That is actually incorrect. Dark Eldar are far, far, far more numerous than the Eldar. For starters, they don't mind cloning themselves, and every description of the size of their city in the Webway, that is always growing as they expand, even if there was one of them per square mile, they'd be up there in numbers I don't even know the name of. Even if the Stars they live around, are the tiniest possible stars. The novels also said, the majority of the survivors fled into the Webway. Not the other way around. Also, if you can trust what some characters have said, which are technically unreliable narrators, (Character statements are never 100%,) they were once so numerous, that even if the vast majority of them were wiped out, they'd still be an incredibly large population. Also, since no one knows how many Dark Eldar a single soul can feed, or how long it lasts, we can't really judge their raiding parties as any sign of their population when they leave the warp.

So, you're saying it's tie? In all sincerity, I'm surprised at the human imperium. The Emperor was just as wise as he was powerful when he walked among the living, yet the Lord's of Terra have neither received revelation, nor drawn inspiration from him in regards to diplomatic relations in the face of conflict. The Tao and Aldari might be overtly alien in almost every way, but they are the least threatening to the human race by far. Establishing an indefinite cease fire (at the very least) would mean that the imperium could focus its energy and resources on more imminent threats. Allying with the Aldari to crush their dark cousins for good could well result in the forces of chaos being weakened.
@scheinerchen64714 жыл бұрын
"Here my Lord Inquisitor, here is the Heretic" Thats what so many people get wrong, the IoM has good reasons to be so xenophobic. If they would not be as they are the Humans would go extinct. The Aeldari for example would sacrifice a human planet to making there plans work for them. The Tau maybe look not so threatening at the first look but they try to destroy human society for there greater good. Orks want to fight us, the Nids want to eat us, Drukhari torture us and with the last development of the Necrons (pahria nexus)...okay they want to seperate the materium from the warp what would be good for us (no chaosgoods and deamons anymore) but it kills us, so no thank you. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die. Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse. To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war.
