@@andrewnibbi how does that work for you? Is the audio quality good enough? How is the latency? I've been looking for a solution for a while. Cost is not the problem for me, the problem is I don't want to plug in many cables, so I want something on battery (like this system).

I think people really need to be made aware of how much of an issue the weak 'line of sight' signal is! If you're just using this mic like the examples in this video you will be fine, but if you plan on using this for any kind of doc work where you're mic'ing up a subject and following them around, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GET SOMETHING ELSE. I can't even begin to tell you how many times my audio has become useless because of the constant drop outs from LESS THAN 10 FEET AWAY. I wanted to get a nice wireless kit and save a few bucks so I went with the Wireless GO instead of something like the Senheisser AVX-ME2 which was 4x the price - but you CANT PUT A PRICE ON RELIABILITY!

Garrett agree 100%. The wife and I were doing some outdoor exercise and I mic'd her up. The transmitter was attached to a GoPro mounted to my bike and while riding the the audio was cutting in and out so bad it was unusable!

These are all great hacks or tips for the Rode Wireless Go. They are great little wireless mics, but with some very serious limitations. For interviews, or youtube videos, they're great. When you have all the control over your recording, I highly recommend them. However, they have three gigantic flaws for more varied use. First, is the line of sight problem. Sure, you can go 150 feet away if both your TX and RX are out in the open and there's nothing but clean air between them. However, try to hide that TX on your talent, and that's where things get unreliable. Inside of a pocket it usually ok. But if ANY... and I mean ANY part of the person's body gets between the two, you have drop out and static. I even got dropout if my own arm got in the way of the receiver on my audio bag. Second, is the need for heavily shielded cables or mic lines. I tried 8 (yes 8) different external microphones with these and 5 of them created a horrible whining sound depending on where the transmitter was in relation to the cable and mic. And it seemed almost random which mics would cause interference feedback and which didn't. And then third, and perhaps worst, is that while there are three levels of amplification on the receive side, there's no control for the transmit side. If I had talent raise their voices too loud, I would get distortion and clipping, no matter what I did on the receiving side. And this was recording into a Zoom F6, which doesn't even have clipping. The only fix to that would be to put the microphone further away from their mouths, but then it was less effective than a boom mic. In the end, I had to sell two of the three units I had and go with a Sennheiser wireless G4 500 system for production work. The Wireless GO units were just too frustrating to work with in a production environment.

Saramonic Blink might solve your problems. They are less sensitive to line of sight (or lack thereof), they let you set the input gain on the transmitter rather than the output gain on the receiver and they come with lav mics in the package, which work right out of the box.

and 4th: you forget the Hack #11: use the internal mic only for emergencys because (at least for me) the internal mic doesn't sound realy great. An external lac mic will help ;-)
@algarveTV
@algarveTV 4 жыл бұрын
I've never had the problem 1 and 2 you've listed. I use it for interviews and I'm not very far so it works well for my scenario. I use a lot with the lapel mic from Rode and use the GO as a transmitter only and never got an issue with cables. But the 3 problem is quite common. I believe the mic is too sensitive. If you need to place it near the mouth (for example with a T-shirt or similar when you have just the collar to hold it, the level may become problematic. You may reduce the output as you say, but the input level no and it's too sensitive. If I use the same micro placement with a lapel it works fine. With Rode GO you need 15 to 20 cm away from the source to avoid clipping in the mic/receiver itself.

Please be aware that if you use the Go as a wireless transmitter for a Boom Mic, you may blow out the input on the transmitter. As well as the on-board internal mic.

Tip: Normally the screen goes dim after about 8 seconds but if you push the main button on the receiver twice, the display remains at full brightness until you press it again. I discovered this just by playing around with it. This could be useful for visual monitoring outdoors though it would surely reduce battery life. I couldn’t find this feature listed on their website so I thought I’d put it out there.

I just ordered a second set of Rode Wireless Go in the new WHITE housings, just to have a redundant backup, then saw your video here on the hack showing how to use both. Joris Maas I had them running into a mixer using 3.5mm-to-1/4” cables so I could compress/EQ them. But you could always just use longer cables going into that splitter and tape one of the receivers on the tripod or something. That said, if 2-3 inches works for you, I wouldn’t sweat it. It really depends on how RF-congested your environment is.

Is this possible with two wireless go sets? If yes what do I need to buy in orser to set it up? The biggest issue I have with the Rode Go is that the audio level jumps way up when I start to talk and then comes back down to something reasonable. As long as I keep talking its fine, but if I stop for a few seconds it jumps back up again for the first few words.
@michaelstadnikfilm
@michaelstadnikfilm 4 жыл бұрын
When you stop talking the Automatic Gain Control 'believes' there might be a silent noise it could pick up. So it regulates the microphone for silent noises. When you start talking again, the microphone has to be regulated to your noise level again. I don't own this system, but you might check, if you could level the sound manually.

I have one GO and now I'm selling my Sennheiser AVXs and going with Rode GOs because they're so much easier to work with. I'm planning to get a 2nd GO so this gives me some additional ideas. The Interview GO is pretty slick!! I'm going to pick that up once it's available and I'm able to leave my house and interview someone 🦠🔫 For me, I use the Rode InvisiLav and attach directly to my chest under my shirt using Rycote Stickies. It's an incredible solution that doesn't cause any ruffling, and sticks on tight. My only complaint about that splitter cable (I bought it after watching you reference it in a previous video) is that it doesn't stay very well in my Sony a6500. The plastic barrel part is too big so it wants to come out instead of stay in. That's kind of a problem! I wish there was a different cable option that did the same thing but played nicely with Sony Alpha cameras. I may have to sand it down or find another solution. As always, thanks for all the great ideas, information and the links!

'Man'... you're the consummate professional. Smooth as silk, knowledged to the hilt and so easy to watch. I learnt heaps from you. Your previous comparison video was brilliant. Big thanks because I'm going Go. Subscribed.

Is there any cardioid lavliere microphone available in market which is compatible with wireless go. The place i record does have too much background noise and since i keep moving and teach dance im unable to use a handle held or shotgun microphone.

Great video ! Just ordered a kit, can’t wait to have fun with it. Do you have a link to all the gear you use to shoot your videos with ? And what are those sculpture looking things in the background ? The light and the camera and tripod ? Looks amazing !! Would love to know

Very well put together! Great tips. One extra; a small adapter for the receiver (TRS 3 lead 3,5mm to TRRS 4-lead 3,5mm [Røde SC4]) and you can use this to record sound with your mobile phone video. Have used the Go for wireless headphone - works fine, but do check FIRST for interference with your microphone or you risk lousy sound on your video... A small move of the transmitter can do magic for the interference.

That's some great creativity and well organized at that. Now only if I could be as organized as you were on this video. The most amazing part to me is your really neat yet so simple solution for stereo sound with the Rode Wireless Go. Good job sir.
