Nice build! A few suggestions: a 3D printed cut out for the monitor would be a nice addition. Using one could cover the leads on the right side of the monitor. Also, this extra part could be used to place the power switches on the left of the monitor instead of near the handle. This prevents the user from accidentally switching on the device(s) when carrying since they are that close to the handle. Last tip: using a slightly bigger case would offer space for an "internal" power source (battery or power bank of some kind), which would make the case ultimate portable.

Well done. Pelican cases are so awesome with what you can do with them. We motorcycle riders do all sorts of things to them for travel cases. Mostly for mounting and running power to them to charge devices inside while the motorcycle is running. One thing I would recommend: a cover for the back panel for all the connectors. For protection from travel bumps and the elements when not in use. Just add a cover to the 3D printing parts list. Add a rubber gasket to the under-lining to the perimeter of the cover: Most electronics places should have that or even use some decent foam that you can buy with the Pelicans and then cut/glue as needed. You can hold the cover in place with screws and velcro or if you want to get fancy, you can rig a hinge/lever mechanism you can probably design with cheap parts you can pick up at Home Depot. Yes, I've put in a lot of thought as I was thinking of doing something similar. Except I'd use a 1520 model case and put 4 monitors in it and fit a sound mixer as well if possible: Certainly bigger than your setup. I just wouldn't want to use one monitor.. And if I use Pelicans for more gear as most studios do, the 1520 would stack better with the others. Again, well done. Your blog will help me in designing my own. Keep up the great work!

Much larger, but I used a ProX 19" Slant Rackmount Case that fits the ATEM mini on a shelf, a sliding shelf puts the laptop either at my fingertips or out of the way, a 14" hdmi monitor covers my second screen, and a rack-mount, switched power distributor handles AC, USB power, and gives me a power switch for the ATEM :) Does a great job hiding the cable clutter and keeps the setup from "spreading out wider" with computers/monitors/switcher/etc. KZbin makes it sort of tough to share a photo, though :)

Awesome idea! Very cost-effective and smart for traveling producers. One thought: have a custom plate made for the I/O on the back and run jumpers from the ATEM to the plate. That will help relieve stress from the relatively constant plugging/unplugging that would occur in a portable environment. We do this in live production world using companies like full compass and redco when building custom live streaming cases. It may require a size up in Pelican cases, but that would also give you room for a larger monitor and still be within carry-on size for TSA requirements.

I built a version of this but didn't have access to the 3D printing capability so used aluminum angle to support the Atem Mini and the monitor. I used black foam board for the surround which is just a trim on my version. Couldn't get the HDMI barrel used in this for monitor output so I fitted an XLR HDMI barrel in the side of the case. I put a 4 pole XLR in the other side as a more robust power connector. I put a BM video assist in the lid which must be a lot heavier than the monitor in the original because it caused the case to topple backwards so I had to add some iron bar in the bottom for ballast. Fantastic idea. Very pleased with it.

Well done. I am trying to decide whether to purchase an ATEM mini or the Feel World switcher. Any thoughts?
@horst_filmfreizeit4 жыл бұрын
The ATEM mini uses the same Software as the professional way more expensive Blackmagic ATEM production studio switchers which makes it really powerful. You get a fully fledged audio mixer for your signals, you have a powerful build in keyer to use for greenscreen effects or overlays. And if you have a BMPCC 4 or 6k, you can remote control the camera over hdmi within the ATEM mini. (You can control the color engine enside the BMPCC to do color correction for your livestream.) Downside with the ATEM Mini: You don't get a hdmi multiview output. You would need the ATEM mini Pro for that, which is more expensive (but totally worth the extra money, in my opinion...). I don't have any experience with the feelworld switcher, but from a quick look, I think I would still tend to the ATEM Switcher

Love it, 2 things that irk me and suggestions to improve 1. 3d print a small support piece to pop under the ATM at the back of the case make the piece have strategically positioned holes and have the piece printed in 2 parts. Sandwich a piece of mesh screen in between the two pieces and then you have a nice airflow channel that will look a little nicer then a drilled hole (bonus points for sanding and solvent welding the pieces so that its flush with case. 2. frontplate (purely decorative) for the lid to cover the monitors connections and make it look like an integrated screen.

I’m done with my ATEM 810 Mini case. I have my church maintenance man helping me wire the video monitor & the 810 mini. I ordered everything you suggested in your build. I was stomped as to how the video monitor was going to be held in place with the 3D pieces I ordered from Shapeway. I was going to order these screws which looked like something I might have some of my other camera equipment. The design & links to the parts you recommended to build this case was so on point. I’m a like confused on the wiring of the 810 Mini since the power plug for the 810 is on the back of the case. So wiring the power plug for the power plug and plug going into your design. So how are the wiring for the 810 going inside of the power plug for your case. I brought all the suggested parts you recommended for the build. The power adapter the power plug which goes into the back of the case. The two wires you stated I would need I have. The way the diagram looks. It’s like the other plug goes into the left side of the case. Which isn’t where the power plug that comes with the goes to power the 810. Help! I also have the 810 Mini iso unit. Didn’t know if you designed a 3D piece to hold a Samsung SSD hard drive which can fit in the large cut out under the 810 Mini? Do you have a link to order the fan cut out you recommended if you wanted extra cooling? This unit & case is going to take my video production to a great level. Thank you again.
