One of my least favorite things about modern society is when people ask, “What do you do?” with the expectation that the answer will be an occupation. If I were to say, “I like to hike,” I’d get a funny look, but in reality that is just as valid of an answer. That expectation just goes to show how obsessed society is with work, productivity, and general busyness, at least in the USA anyway.
@rubyus73322 жыл бұрын
Easy! Say “I work as a manager”. You manage your own life and provide for yourself (I hope so). But what’s wrong with work? Somebody has to work and pay taxes so we all can live in a safe, clean environment.
@homemaker_ally2 жыл бұрын
I agree. But for me, what I least like is when we are asked to introduce yourself, or say things about yourself. The default answer of most people, myself included, is to say what they do for a living. And I hope that changes because there are more things that define us than our jobs. Now I am intentionally trying to define myself differently.
@HighlandCowWoodworking2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! This was something written in the book How To Be F&*#ing Awesome…love it. “What do you do is such a boring question, leading to a short and boring answer with little scope for conversation to follow.

I just retired at 58. I’m learning ALOT from you sir. I’m still young and want to enjoy my life -- side hustles and more time with less money. You are very inspiring. Since I just started watching your videos 6 months ago. I’m watching them all. Starting with trying to decluttering but I’ve realized so much more .

Definitely will check out the courses. Less is truly more......and let me say as I have aged. I recognize I am easily replaceable at work. I give extra on a consistent basis but am working on managing my personal work life balance. I am happy at home. I don't need stuff anymore. I appreciate the quiet in the mornings. And experience s. This is the first time I have ever heard of you Gabe, I just watched only 2 of your videos barely right now and I am now really intrigued by minimalism…. And I say that because looking at my life right now, I have so much s*** that’s in my possession BUT i don’t even use it, or wear it, or play with it…. And now I just want to bag it all up and take it somewhere where others can benefit from it and be blessed with it….. so I would like to say THANK YOU 🙏 😊

Minimalism does not mean being frugal IMO. It means to use less things but better quality of things and live life in the moment. Stop worrying about the future and just let past stays in the past.

Great points, however in the video Gabe's specifically talking about *Financial* Minimalism.

Careful about living in the moment. We were forced to live day to day due to serious illnesses, and it messes you up; it really does. I don’t believe in that anymore after so much life experience. Truly trying to get through minute by minute messes you up BIG TIME. Like most things, a balance is needed.
