One rule that I have, which maybe isn't quite a rule as much as a mindset, is to romanticize life as much as you can, especially the little things. As someone who struggles a lot with fluctuating depression, often times the only way that I am ever able to get out of a depressive episode is to start romanticizing little things. If you can't live for the big things, like family, friends, etc, then live for the little things. Everyday, the things I look forward to the most are drinking tea, taking a walk in nature, cuddling my dog, looking at the trees in the wind, looking at art, listening to music, eating a yummy meal, sitting down to read a book, etc. It's these things that truly make life enjoyable, so don't forget to immerse yourself in them whenever you can! Also, this is especially helpful when I have to do something that I don't particularly want to do, such as housework or an assignment. My little trick to get me through it is to pretend that I'm in a Studio Ghibli movie montage of someone cleaning their house or working. I'll play soft music in the background as though it were the movie soundtrack, and it really helps. It helps me feel as though these boring/unpleasant activities are being romanticized, and a bit less unpleasant.

My rule: try to be as honest as you can, with people but also with yourself. If you lie, you make things complicated. If someone asks you a question, ask yourself first before you answer.
@yashark18932 жыл бұрын
Jenny, I agree with you. Honesty should be at the top of the Rules. However, These days It is difficult to be completely honest. Why? Being honest means, telling people about their narcissism, passive aggression, grandiosity, Rationality and so on. You may approach as a compassionate friend with the intention of truly wanting to help, but It comes right back at your face. I think these days, its best to learn the rules of human nature, in order to decode what is going on behind the mask and avoid ending up hurting ourselves or others. I truly hope and imagine a future where we can actually be honest with one another without first trying to use the truth the hurt the other and secondly a positive response from the receiver of the truth. But according to history, we have been as such for hundreds of years. It's all engraved in our DNA.

One rule I think it's most important for mental health is - don't think that you're late to achieve something. Media is full of very young people who achieved a lot already, and it's very easy to start comparing yourself and thinking that you're too old for achieving anything. But that's so wrong, if you're a college student and lose 2-3 years because of certain life circumstances, that's OK, just move on, in the grand scheme of life those 3 years will turn out to be irrelevant, what is important is that you keep working on what you believe is best for you. That also applies to situations when people realise that they are in the wrong place at, for example 35 or 40 years of age. If you feel you found something new you're very passionate about, don't talk yourself out of it just because you're not in your early 20's anymore. It's never too late.
@CuJixBeatZ2 жыл бұрын
That one is so important. I always catch myself with those thoughts and i am only 24 years old!! Its as simple as this old saying goes: Better late than never. Youre 64 years old and you realize you want to start your own business? Do it! Better late than never!

Super important and I feel like underrated. I hate when people are shocked or dissappointed you changed your mind, but you might have learned new information on the topic or just changed innerly, which is also not a negative thing at all. Other people even tell you that they like you as you are, so you should not ever change. Not changing feels very limiting to me. Not changing is synonimous with not learning.

Always discover new music 15. Try to be as honest as you can 16. Pour into yourself first 17. Date yourself 18. Allow yourself to be bad at certain things 19. Cut out toxic people immediately 20. Show gratitude 21. Celebrate small steps properly 22. It’s easier the second time around 23. You’re not the first person in this situation and you won’t be the last

"It's better to be an hour early than a minute late." This is probably one of the most valuable ones for me. I should remind myself of this more. I'm late more often than not and it makes you feel out of control. Being early more often will make me feel a little more in control of myself again.

One of my rule is to allow yourself to be bad at certain things. You don't have to achieve perfection every time at every thing, it limits the idea of even trying to improve. By allowing myself to be bad at certain things, I give myself space. As a perfectionist myself, this helped me a lot to start a new task or goal, as I don't try to do it perfectly but just enough.

Great tips! One thing hubby & I tried that doesn't work for us during out 29+ yr marriage is the "never go to bed angry" thing. Our hottest, most destructive fights are in the middle of the night when we are both tired and sensitive. If we find ourselves going in circles or escalating to an unreasonable level, we take a pause and sleep on it. After sleeping and stepping back, the perspective is so much more productive and reasonable. It doesn't work for everyone, but it does for us. Our tempers are too hot and we are both too stubborn I guess.

I can verify the truth of this statement. Was about to write the same thing, truth be told. My husband has a hot temper, and I'm the sort that "borrows" other people's emotions. So we are definitely better off parking the argument, and then addressing it later, when it can be a discussion, not a fight. I think the folks that can hold to "don't go bed angry" don't have hot tempers. Hot tempers need time to cool off before they can be in a place to settle an argument.

That's how you want to approach your habits as well. You want to create a routine for your habit that takes less than 2 minutes to get started, after that you're technically done for the day if you want to. The idea is that once you get started you'll keep going anyway, but making it easy to get started is how you actually get into a habit.

Awesome. As a writer/research/nursing professor, I'm obsessed with good writing and a common remark when grading students' papers is, "EDIT, EDIT, EDIT." Finally, I find that putting off writing my manuscripts is so easy to do. Just start moving (e.g., writing), leads to motivation (in my writing) is something I will remember. Finally, the work-out rule rings true. I always say, I'm too tired after a long hard day at work and "reward" myself (quite the antithesis) by not working, and then feel guilty the next day.

I was about to be real mad at you with the "it's really not that difficult to show up on time". I have ADHD. and one of the ways my ADHD manifests is being HORRIBLE at estimating how much time something is going to take. But that solution of 'double the amount of time you think it will take' is actually something that might be helpful for me. The other thing I have started learning is to start timing how long it takes me to do something so I can actually have a realistic idea... so if I combine that with your tip of doubling time I definitely would be better at getting places on time even if I get off track (which is the other reason I often end up late. I realize oh shoot I forgot to do xyz and next thing I know I've forgotten I was supposed to be leaving and shoot that was 5 minutes ago I was supposed to leave...). Appreciate the idea. Will have to track how using that helps me get places on time!

I've been around my friends, parents, or even my fiancee when they make a snap negative judgement out loud and I've literally said to them things along the lines of "what if that person just lost their job. What if they just found out their grandma died. What if that person just went through a break up" You truly don't know. I'll give people a free pass and the benefit of the doubt more often than not. Even in working customer service jobs in the past I've done this and have received several apologies from people who then tell me their real story. Classic honey vs vinegar. This video is really helpful and good timing too. I start new job tomorrow, one I wanted to pursue for a year, and it's been such a stressful day idk why. I really resonated with advice # 3 - If it won't matter in 5 years, don't spend more than 5 min worrying about it, it has such a big calming effect on me like a big cold wave of cool water. thanks

So much positivity and motivation in this video!❤ Recently I love TK Coleman’s rule: Be curious, not furious! Meaning in communication, don’t start a fight if someone assumes something wrongly about you, but respond with a question: How come you think that? What made you think that? What do you mean?😊

Rule# 7 works. I can confirm. For smaller goals e.g. starting a workout regime, it can be like the Monday next week. When you allow yourself the time, you can do this mental preparation of what its going to be like the actual hour you're working out. This way, not only you are prepared mentally, but you also give your laziness enough time to go away and be ready when the time actually comes to jump into action!!

My partner and I started something new a few weeks ago. We don't check our phones for the first 30 - 40 minutes of our day, longer if we can. Personally I find that I'm in a better mood for the day and I'm more productive because I don't start my day off looking at a screen of demands.

Here in the UK we saying taking the Mick or taking the piss as well. It's the most important tool for self development I've found. If you can't laugh at yourself or even the crappy things in life from time to time you're just gonna be miserable. Laugh at your shortcomings and you'll soon get better at them

I have always been fascinated by investing, but without adequate knowledge on the right thing to do, I find it difficult to start. *I politely ask, what’s the best sector to invest in?*

It is entirely possible for a smart and patient investor to go into investing with the right information. One of the best ways to get started is to get help from an experienced Financial Consultant . I'm glad I stumbled upon this. My wife and I works with Phoebe. Before now, we spent more and saved less. Phoebe changed that mindset and gave us a way to generate money investing in the financial market. Working with Phoebe, opened our eyes to a lot of investment opportunities, which in turn, helped us become less dependent of our earned income.

I like the three year rule idea for big goals. Not just because you are allowed to give up if you don't succeed after three years, but because if you commit to doing something for three years you're more likely to put some effort into really thinking and feeling out what actually matters to you and what you would actually want to do for such a long time. If it's just a fleeting desire or idea, you probably won't be able to put three years of effort into it anyway.
@TakeBackYourMind9972 жыл бұрын
Doing the first 3 minutes of a task you don't feel motivated to do is a great little hack to get you in action. After those first 3 minutes, it's almost more difficult to not carry on most of the time.

I generally think good of people too. It's better than getting angry at things that you can't control (other people's behaviour). If it's someone you're interacting with in your day-to-day, you can observe and if it happens frequently, take it up with them. 'I feel like you do -this-. I don't like it because it makes me feel -this-. Would you (please) consider -this- in the future?'
@pwtplanetcob2 жыл бұрын
Good advice. Worrying about things out of your control is always something that brings your mind to a living hell. Aka in fear. Compassion over judgment in every situation. Kindness. Love Desiscions only! Destroy your Expectations. Wanting someone to do something they don't want to do, will only bring you straight to hell on earth. (Again thats in fear) instead. Try wanting people to do, what they want to do. Then, no matter what, they will be doing, what you want. Try new things with new people. Those are the directions that brought be Heaven on Earth, in Love with life. Hit me up when you get here and lets share an experience. The new awaits!

Rule number 11: Allow yourself time and space to feel your feelings.
@dudysv2 жыл бұрын
Feel your feelings. If you feel sad, take a moment and feel sad. The more you bottle the more it builds up and the harder it will be to deal with later. Yes, if it won't matter in 5 years, try not to dwell too long...but you still need to feel it! Even if it's just something small like a miscommunication with a coworker or stubbing your toe. FEEL THE FEELINGS. Oh, and don't judge those feelings when you feel them. Observe them. Think about them. But don't tear yourself down in the process.
