Picked up this bad boy at home Depot for 129 dollars and i'm glad that i went with new instead of used drill press. So far it drills straight and true holes but i will have to learn to properly set up the machine for wood and metal projects so that i don't damage my drill bits.
Thanks for checking out my video.

When drilling into metal bro. I'd use some oil. 3in1 some WD40 just about anything would be better then dry humpin like it's a first date in the back of Dad's car. You'll extend the life of your drill bit's too. Thanks for the video it helped me make up my mind about buying one.

I was just given a RYOBI 103L by next door neighbor. I wanted to check out reviews on the drill press. I liked your setup and demo video review. I think I will check out what I was given and make sure everything is working properly. Thanks for the review. Eventhough I recently bought a WEN drill press (which is still in the box) I will keep both and use the RYOBI for the time being as I am new to woodworking . Thanks again for the review.

I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it (but for some reason the comments are not showing up for me!) but it's always a good idea to use some metal cutting lubricant on a drill press. It's not essential, but it helps make a cleaner, faster hole, and it also saves the drill bits' lifespan. I learned that when I worked a foundry and did a lot of quick repairs making replacement brackets and such.

When I got to Home Depot, the box was trashed so they gave me $50 off. I got mine for $80! ;-) The *only* thing wrong is the yellow "key" doesn't stay in by itself. It stays in while the drill is running but falls out when I turn the switch off. Tbh, it's such a minor issue, it's hardly even worth mentioning. I love that it's variable speed! Thank you for the video. I was wondering how to install the chuck.

Have you used the depth stop? My benchtop drill press motor just failed, but I added a table to it and the depth stop is a feature I use all the time. How easy it it to use on this machine? Also, for raising and lowering the table, how close is the wind handle to the table and how easy is it to raise the table? Thank you for the video. It is helpful for the decision of which to replace mine also a Ryobi, but a bit older.

E Bell To be honest with you, so far I haven’t used the depth stop. The table is very easy to adjust and secure it in place. In worse case scenario, if you don’t like the drill press, you can always return it within 90 days. Good luck with your unit and I hope it lasts for a while. Cheers

zzzzip1218 My intention was to keep this drill press unattached to anything. Now I can move it around and whenever I need to use it I can just secure it with quick grip C-clamps and I’m good to go. It’s stable enough to be freestanding on its own. So far it works great for my small projects and I’m glad that I didn’t buy one of those bulky units that would take up a lot of space in the garage.

Are you talking about play in the chuck, or how to attach? To attach it just knock it on like in the video, or if you worry about hammering you can raise the table and sit the chuck on a block of wood on the table then force on to taper by using the pressure from turning the drill handle (lowering the taper on to the chuck). If by alignment you mean play or wobble in the chuck after its attached (so doesn't drill accurately) then this is common on cheap drills, you get more precision when you pay more. Looking at this Ryobi in the video it seemed to be drilling straight with no obvious wobble. Look for some other videos to see chuck wobble, it can be really bad! I think I might buy this Ryobi, it looks one of the better cheap drill press offerings that I've seen, although I wish the pulleys were all metal.

Yes, this drill press still works great. I just used it the other day drilling 3/8 holes in quarter inch steel plates. My suggestion is use oil while drilling holes in metal, that way the drill bit doesn’t overheat and will last longer. If you’re planning on using this press for woodworking then this thing will drill holes all day long without any issues. It’s not meant for heavy duty industrial use but for home use you can’t go wrong with this unit. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers

Don’t quote me on that but I believe it’s the belt on the pulleys that makes the noise and not the motor itself. Belt is loose on the pulleys so that it can be repositioned by hand to different ratios of speed. So far I haven’t had any issues with the belt or motor and the drill press still works great.
