Right now in New York City, you can’t buy a gun unless you get a permit. When you do buy a gun you have to register that gun. If you wanted to carry that gun for protection NYC requires a permit to carry, but carry permits are nearly impossible to get if you’re not a celebrity, can prove you have an active threat against your life, or you can prove that you carry a lot of cash or jewelry as part of your business.
Simply wanting to protect your life is not enough. The New York Times in 2011 found that about 4,000 people had permits to carry concealed handguns citywide.
The vast majority tended to be retired cops, active security guards, and business owners who handle significant amounts of cash, along with a few well-to-do famous names. Only 4,000!? There were over 8 million people in New York City in 2011.
If you wanted to have an AR-15 to defend your home since you can't carry a handgun to defend yourself in public, you wouldn’t be able to because AR-15’s are banned in NYC.
So you can only use handguns, shotguns, and bolt action rifles to defend your home, but wait, you can’t have more than 10 rounds in the gun.
There are so many gun control laws in not only New York City but New York in general and they’re so strict that if you don’t live there, you can’t even go into a gun store in New York and hold or touch a gun.
So with all of these extreme gun control laws, someone wants to explain to me how recently New York city Had 10 Shootings in 24 hours.
Here’s the crazy thing, even with all the laws you want to take a guess as to what their response to this violence is?

Criminals do care about gun control because the harder it is for law-abiding people to have guns, the easier it is for them to commit crimes.
The Gun Control Lobby sees New York City as the model for gun control. They want the entire country to be as restrictive as New York. Oh, they’ll get up on camera and say that they support the second amendment they just want common-sense gun control measures to fool people into thinking that the gun community is the one being unreasonable, while behind the scenes they’re praising New York for their unconstitutional gun laws.
If you don't agree with allowing people to carry a gun for self-protection, You do not, I repeat, you do not support the second amendment.
People wake up. There is no such thing as reasonable gun measures because the gun control lobby and anti-gun politicians believe every gun law is reasonable, even if it's unconstitutional. Their solution will always be more gun laws.
Make no mistake, the goal of the gun control lobby and the anti-gun politicians they support is to make the entire country like New York City. That is why the largest and most prominent gun control group in the country is Every-town formerly known as Mom's demand action is spending millions on state and local elections to turn red states and counties blue.

Guy I knew in the Army when on leave to NY to visit his parents. He followed TSA's guidelines on transporting a firearm on a plane. He announced it in GA 0 issues. Got to NY, he only touched his firearm at a gun range while leaving it locked in a safe. He left to go back to GA announced his firearm which was packed up per TSA regulations and was arrested on the spot for violating NY state law. Last time I checked I thought airports are regulated under federal law.

There are many many examples of same thing. If you have any firearm during travel (hunting trip, safari, competition, etc...) you need to check laws as you change planes etc.... I have had to change my travel plans many times for both driving and flying

Have a permit another state doesn’t equate to legally carrying a gun in another state. There are some states that have agreements with each other. Like Texas, North Carolina, Louisiana, New Mexico, Kentucky, Kansas, etc. The usual southern states. That’s why he was arrested even though he followed the guidelines he broke the law. Guidelines aren’t above the law. Im from Long Island, New York. Been doing my research on the topic since im moving to Texas around August. I am not a huge fan of the saying "An armed society is a polite society." It misses the key point in two ways. First, it implies people would be shot for being rude, which is not what the 2nd is for. Second, it doesn't imply that we ought to be able to defend ourselves from harm using arms, which is the key point. "An armed society is an excellent deterrent against violent crime" and "Armed people are harder to oppress" are both much better in my opinion.

There are jurisdictions that consider air arms as firearms. And in CA, many knives are technically illegal since when opened, the total length is over 4 inches.* * I may be somewhat incorrect, as it has been a bit since I looked at California gun and knife laws. I am in a state that allows most weapons to be carried concealed without a permit or open. Nun Chucks are heavily regulated, though! Large fixed blade knives, such as combat and hunting knives, are permitted to be carried in most places; however, three inches of the sheath must be showing, and said tool is to remain sheathed unless a need to unsheath it arises. Simply whipping out your Ka-Bar to show your buddy at, say a steakhouse, is considered brandishing and is illegal. Also, most folks who are taking heat are also caring at least an assisted opening folding knife.

Everyone who got a gun license in NYC on the first try, without exception, started by making a phone call to an old friend who is in the state legislature or on the city council, rather than filling out a single page of paperwork. Most of the people who got one in the end got it by making a phone call after the paperwork failed. Even famous people who routinely receive death threats and have even been attacked always see their applications denied due to lack of need, and appeals never ever work.

Guessing you are about 18 years old as I write this. Carrying a gun illegally is not worth it. Odds are you will be stopped for any number of minor infractions and searched versus being attacked and needing to use deadly force. I fully support the 2A and applaud people who carry but 99.99999% of people do not ever have a justified reason for using their gun. Whereas millions of people are stopped every year by cops for routine bullshit. If you are stopped with an illegal weapon that is a felony and will destroy your life. I suggest moving to a state where you can carry if you are adamant about carrying or use a different tool for self defense that is legal. The risk of death in a violent robbery or burglary is not worth the DAILY risk of being pulled over and searched while illegally carrying.

As a licensed individual in NYC.. I can tell you my license was up 6 months ago, they took my $340 for the renewal and have YET to print my new permit. Also, I've been waiting since November to pickup an FN 509. They will not issue me my papers to pickup the gun due to them taking their sweet time processing my permit. $340 and 6 months later, still nothing... I don't know how they get away with it.

It’s the people who are using them to commit crimes and to fix that we need to figure out why these people are choosing a path of crime. Is it because of how they were raised, is it because of the conditions they grew up in, is it because of a mental issue, etc... please do not blame our rights which protect us as Americans. We all have the ability to think and decide on whether to do right or wrong. And for those who are mentally challenged and have a hard time doing that then the government needs to do better about funding these mental health places and make sure the appropriate people are running them and doing things right.. however the typical shootings we see day in and day out from violence and crime are not typically from mental health issues... these are people who are choosing to do these violent and wrong acts... and not to mention before you blame other states, I would strongly look at how New York releases violent criminals right back onto the streets. Our jails definitely need to be re-shaped. The racist hatred that is perpetuated in these Jails by allowing the inmates to segregate base on race and the lack of ability for inmates to improve their life while in jail whether education or doing road work or whatever to just stay active and give them opportunities to get out of jail quicker should happen. However doing it the wrong way and releasing violent criminals right back onto the street is definitely not the answer and it puts our police force at more of a disadvantage because people do not take them serious or the thought of being arrested

My oldest daughter's boyfriend... He lives in Boston Massachusetts. He is an outstanding young man no criminal record very intelligent... He went to get his concealed carry permit down there... Not only did he have to fill out a ridiculously long application and pay an incredibly high fee... He had to have a meeting with the authorities who then determined if they could move on to the next phase.. then he had to go to a gun range with police officers using weapons that they gave him and if he did not pass with a certain score... He could not get the permit... And based on a few other ridiculous criteria.. sometimes you can only have that firearm on your person if you're in your home or you're at the gun range. Certain amounts of time have to go by and other ridiculous criteria before you can actually carry it in public. Now here in the great state of New Hampshire... You pay $15 and fill out a single-sided form wait a few days and if you're an auto prohibited person boom you go pick up your permit and it's good for 5 years. Here in New Hampshire though you don't even need one if you're not a prohibited individual. You don't have to be a resident of the state either in order to carry concealed. Live Free Or Die.
