I picked up the G920 in Dec. for $200 USD. I've never owned a force feedback wheel, and I wasn't sure how much I would actuall use it. I agree the gearbox is a little clunky, but I think it's a solid starter wheel for those who might be unsure if they are going to use their wheel a lot or not. If I keep using mine and improve my drift skills I'll likely upgrade to the Moza, but for now the G920 is doing just fine.

I did similar with a g923 @ a good deal. Definitely has its flaws, but has totally got me hooked and is good enough to tide me over until i have the space to put an actual rig together. What i thought was a fun "toy" has quickly turned into a hobby.

I've done the same thing I got a G29 with pedals and the shifter for a nice price of $0 cause I got for free from a friend he also gave me like a custom made Sim rig with a car seat from an old BMW

Good video!! I'm a great fan of your drifting videos. I have a G29 with H shifter in a table setup and for me it's perfect for drifting, I also drive and drift in real life with my cars and the best to learn drifting is practice and you have to learn to feel the car and master it. Training is the key.

if you have a g29 you can make it less loud and shakey by remapping the ffb using wheelcheck and ffb clip. (there are youtube tutorials)

drifting etiquette dosnt always mean spawn back too pits if your gonna mess up sometimes that’s the fun of drifting and keeping it “real” spinning out and bumps are normal in the drifting scene so if you are gonna mess someone up just try too bump or spin yourself it’s not a huge problem if the train gets messed up for a run just keep practicing you’ll never get good if you just spawn into the pits thinking your gonna mess something up or someone up and your gonna have anxiety form that situation not to mention. drifting etiquette does not involve what you said hardly it’s usually about not being the rammer of the lobby or trolling around being a child when your tryna drift and learn

nr. 9 is important. made this mistake myself at first. stop messing with stuff too much. if it's not clipping then your FFB settings are fine. (the clipping part is kind of important though, some car packs were way too high for my t300 and I just lower it on a per car basis in AC) same goes for tuning. at least for assetto corsa, just get a decent car pack like WDTS or GravyGarage and they're setup perfectly fine. if you can't drift them changing the tune won't help you.

As someone who is newer in Assetto the biggest help was having settings right like no traction control type of settings and also make sure to have a car that is set up decently. If you don’t have a decent set up car things will seem super difficult.

I def agree with your all's point with the logitech wheels. I've been using the G920 base for a few years now and I can comfortably say that you will spend so many more pain staking hours learning to drift on a wheel with that much "give". Save up that extra money and get ANYTHING other than a gear drive base. I had to take the extra time to get used to throwing the wheel the other way when transitioning because the motor just isn't responsive enough for drifting.

as someone who has a g920 i can say that is enough for someone who wants to have fun, i couldnt save more for some personal reasons so i bought the g920 and the logitech shifter,made a diy handbrake from a ps3 controller and a wooden sim rig with a seat from an old alfa romeo and i can say that its not the perfect set up and yes the wheel isnt the most simulation one but its a lot of fun ,its still a good simulation and the whole thing cost me less than a Thrustmaster T150 RS Pro or any of the "cheap" thrustmaster wheels and as u said ,games are for fun and the g920 is enough for this ,if someone can save more tho and want to have a more realistic experience try to go for a better wheel Love ur vids goose

Awesome advice 👌 I paid attention to every point, since I'm just starting myself, and here's my conclusion: #1 I was happy, because my desk was moving too much, so I switched to a cheap wheel stand right from the beginning, and it's a nice improvement overall 😁 #2 Haven't done that yet, but makes total sense to just be considerate and think about the others trying to enjoy their game #4 Watching a lot of content about setups, maybe too much, I should actually start drifting, but starting is always scary for some reason #5 I was sad, because my T150 is exactly like Goose described, just by looking at the T300 I can see how much smoother it must be #6 Real good advice, used to have a rigid wooden ikea kitchen chair, but got an office chair now. It was painfull after just minutes, you need better comfort than ikea chairs #7 So you're saying a more expensive wheel will make you better at drifting ? And if yes, why ? I'm genuinely trying to learn #8 Easier said than done, since pro drifters make it look so easy, even looking at their channels, it looks as if they were always that good #9 Couldn't agree more, I spent too much time worrying about settings. Default is gold when starting, same goes for car tunes in games #10 I really have to say goodbye to The Crew 2, I'm starting to feel like it's not just me bad at drifting, could The Crew 2 have something to do with it ? the crew 2 is genuinley the worst game unless you are on controller. its not anywhere close to sim for racing or drifting. if your on console just do forza horizon 5. its the best overall "sim" on console other than grand turismo 7 which is better.

I started drifting in 2002 when Life for Speed came out and it's more than 20 years.... and after those 20 years I don't need any special setup, just tune front and back toe on the wheels and the tire pressure and that's all. Everything what you need is a good steering wheel and a lot of practice.

I personally use a g920 for the time being but it works just fine for me on live for speed. I built my own Sim rig from wood and used the stock seat from my summer car when I put aftermarket seats in it. I don't have a dedicated handbrake yet so I have to use the left paddle shifter for the handbrake.

I had Ardor gaming Silverstone for less than 200 bucks with a ffb 900 degrees and stuf. Worked pretty fine, the only bad thing was low ffb power. Now I'm on moza r5 and it's completely different thing but hey, as you saing always: you have to start somewere! There is some exxxtra budget options, better than nothing

4:37 That literally happened to me, I got a 135° degrees wheel with no Force Feedback and very low sensibility (I'm okay with not having Force Feedback, but the sensibility and the low angle are the main problem)

Dude I had two g29 and one t300rs Ferrari edition, I agree, the belt driven one is better, but the gear is still very very good for the money. First I got new g29 without a shifter for 250$, then i sold it for 250$ and bought a used one with a shifter and handbrake for 200$, it's a used one that is like new. While you have a 2000$ Moza setup paid by a sponsor, you can't say other cheaper wheels are bad, that's not correct. G29 is the best for the money, my t300rs Ferrari costs triple the price of G29, of course it's better, but they are in a different category dude.

I'd really suggest upgrading soon. Not because drifting sucks on a G27, but the throwing you have to do to make some transitions work puts a lot of stress on the components. I'm guessing it you bought it used too so I wouldnt be surprised if it breaks fairly soon. In the long run, you'll probably safe more buying a decent wheel from the start. Speaking from experience.

You can get the CSL DD ready2race for $399 and add a clutch for $49. That'll give you a solid base to start with. You can save some money on the shifter and handbrake for now and upgrade later.

I've sold my G29, but one thing I can tell you, if you can drift on the G29, you can probably drift on any other wheel. Sure the weel didn't spin fast enough so, I needed to help the wheel a bit, or maby better throttle control, all those are things that helped me despite using a G29. If you got a G29, it is indeed possible to drift, just harder, that said, if you got the budget to the G29, save up a bit more and go to the T300RS GT (Gotta be the GT version to better pedals)

Bro, you are losing a ton of information with the G29. I had one and upgraded last week to a Moza R5. I instantly got better and faster just because of the amount and quality of the information sent via the wheel. Dirt Rally 2 is a great example for me. With the G29 I wasn't bad, but I rarely got green sector or ended in the top half. With the Moza, I am throwing green sectors and getting podiums. Assetto Corsa: Many times I spun because the G29 couldn't provide the loss of traction. Really, I wish I had gone for something better from the start, but at the time DD wheels were for the ultra rich. Now, the Moza R5 bundle is $599. A new G29 set will cost you what? $300-$400?

Goose, i have a G29 with the shifter as my current setup. Tho i am still pretty average to wheel drifting, i am starting to feel the flaws of the G29, when it has to counter steer fast it gets ''Laggy'' in a way, which makes fast transitions hard. Anyways, i am still learning alot of basics and wondered if you think the G29 is a good beginner choice to just get the basics in? also for some people it might be a good choice of wheel to know what route in Sim racing/drifting/rally etc.. they choose. for me obviously its drifting, and i want to adapt enough to try to get good irl aswell. At the moment i am trying to learn heel-toe. and i am starting to really get the hang on thorttle controll to compensate for gear changes and widening out lines. i had real issues with my lines cutting in short as where i am starting a good outside line but on the middle right before the turn ends it cuts inside short. took some time to figure it out but with practise comes perfection. Let me know what you think about the G29 in my scenario. obviously i will get a smoother wheel when time and money lets me do it. I am happy with the G29 as for now. but i really need to try some other high end wheels to really get a feel of what it is to have a great setup. Thanks for this video tho! I'm the different brands guy too. Thrustmaster T300 rs gt WHEEL with TLCM PEDALS. For the SHIFTER I used my old G29 shifter and did some DIY with arduino, so it can run directly on USB. And the HANDBRAKE is DIY old dissasembled logitech wingman joystick, with bike handlebar on it. :D

I got my first wheel a g920 around the middle of last year and I got it for beamng not specifically for drifting, then I got assetto for drifting and idk how but straight away no assist (unless maybe there is another assist tab other than the thingy with gamer, racer, pro settings that you can choose by default) I was really good with it, I had practiced a bit on beam first though so that might have helped even though I still can't drift in beamng

I find the force feedback in Assetto is excellent, and the G920 isn't an awful wheel. Even though it's geared, it's reasonably quick. I did tune the LUT curve, and I occasionally have to throw the wheel into a countersteer, but it seems alright. I can only imagine how sweet it would be to have a more expensive wheel though, I'm sure I'm putting in more physical effort than I'd need to with a faster wheel.

You said avoid gear wheels such as the G29, but you then stated you don't need the best of the best, you don't need the best wheel. Which is it!?! lol I have a G290 coming that I got used off of Amazon for $200. If I don't like it I will return it. However everybody says to go with Thrustmaster T300 RS GT as a bare minimum... BUT it is $400-500 everywhere right now. The only thing I could find was the Thrustmaster T248 which not many liked but still recommended over the Logitech. Again I can only find it for around $300-400 as well. Too many options and unsure of what direction to go.

You used to be able to get into a real car to make into a drift middle for the amount that you have to pay for these setups. with enthusiast cars getting so expensive though, this actually doesn’t seem like a bad way to get started until you can get into a car, but nothing beats the real thing feeling the weight of the car, suspension travel, and the exhaust when you plant your foot down

you dont need a handbrake for begining as further you go. You will understand its only pedal work. So save cash. When you jump off Rooky path you get handbrake then! You will need it only for tandems, online competition, online lobbies or rally games. With a good drifting mate you don't need handbrake as well if you both slide same way harder braking clutch kicking will do it! This applies to online AC lobbies like Brooklin Park

I now have a T500rs and for drifting I like the G29 somehow more, because my T500rs has a really bad death wobble in cars with higher angle. And the death wobble is not only when going straight. Sadly. Otherwise the T500 is far superior, but if anybody has an idea on how to fix the death wobble, please let me know. I think its software related tho...

My g920 had this issue when going straight in forza horizon 5. The more I play with the wheel settings the better it got. But it got to a point where it was only good for driving straight and not drifting. No issue in car x or especially assetto corsa.

@@Treyskates1995 I dont own Forza Horizon 5, but when driving in a straight line I also have it. Somehow just with cars with much angle. The more angle the worse it got. Same in BeamNG with some cars. Also I feel like tire compound also matter, so its related to software. I also played around with the settings, used settings that where given to me, I also used wheelchecker (a great software for better FFB, because it adapts to your specific wheel) and tried it without it too. I feel like Ive done almost everything. The worst part is, that I have to turn the wheel all the time and cant let go of it, because sometimes it goes to full lock immediately and sometimes it almost does nothing because the death wobble motion and the expected turning motion cancel each other out. Hopefully I soon get a CNC Aluminium Adapter for a 350mm deepdish, I hope that makes it better…

@@dreiback182 my buddy has a 350mm wheel with a 3d printed adapter and his is also a g920 like mine and he has zero issues playing horizon 5 at any speed with any car. So maybe it will help im not sure, I don't have an aftermarket wheel on mine so I cant speak on it

@@Treyskates1995 I dont think it will resolve the issue just having a 350mm but I can control it better and it has more mass to it, so it should be smoother. Ive seen Videos where people had a stock T500 and seem to not have the issue.

Yeah, as a gear engine wheel owner, DONT BUY A GEAR ENGINE WHEEL. That being said, they are good budget wheels and still count as sim wheels.

I made the mistake of getting the g29 but i make it work, i also got the g29 shifter with a custom knob, and a thrust master joystick i use as a handbrake, and i think a joystick is better as it has easy access buttons for pits, camera, etc

I have G29 too and that thing is like a Nokia 3310 I actually love it. Like it's already pretty old and with no maintenance that thing still goes like new. Just the pedals are a bit done. Not saying it's top quality or anything but as an entry level wheel for low price it's really good. I would never spend 1100€+ on a setup, those money could buy me a old bmw beater for IRL drifting lol. 🤣

Lol I went from; if I’m gonna spend 400 I may as well spend 6. And if I spend 6 I may as well spend 8. But if I spend 8 I may as well get DD. If I may as well get DD I may as well get a good cockpit. If I get a good cockpit I may as well get better pedals. I went from $400 to $2600 😅

Idk. I went from gear driven to belt driven by back to gear driven. I just felt the belts slipped too much.
