When it comes to "Don’t go to sleep angry at the people you care about", I think it depends. If you get frustrated or upset with your partner late at night, sometimes it could be better to get some rest and re-evaluate your feelings in the morning. Bringing it up when both of you are tired is much more likely to lead to an argument. If you give yourself some time to rest and calm down, it's often easier to have a calm and productive talk about it.

On the water thing: Don't know where this came from, but you _do not_ need 8 cups of water a day, individual needs vary widely. Drinking too much water can strip micronutrients and electrolytes from your system and leave you worse off. Drink when you're *_thirsty_* (by all means have water readily available when you are, which is Matt's point), and be sure to have plenty of sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate as these will help you from becoming dehydrated.

I appreciate the genuine recommendation for quality food. Investing in drinking clean, mineral water and eating organic pasture raised/grass fed/wildcaught foods has made a real difference in my health. It’s twice as expensive, but I know the animals were raised humanely on a farm eating quality foods and frolicking in the sunshine AND it tastes so much better and I feel so much better. My thyroid is very sensitive to halogens in the water supply, and I was able to heal hypothyroidism with quality water and seafood/fish after being a vegetarian for 10 years. When you can afford the quality option, slowly start integrating those options into your budget and diet wherever possible. An investment in local farmers and your health is nearly priceless.

Thanks Matt, I’m doing something very similar and have based a lot of my habit-building on James Clear’s book Atomic Habits. I agree that identity-based change is more effective than just a focus on results.

I absolutely love and appreciate the addition of number 5. Almost made me cry. Holding on to negative feelings and unsolved problems in a relationship creates a terrible tension between two people. It’s sad to see and even worse to experience first-hand.

I've been doing the water-bottle-thing for the past 5 years or something, I don't even have to think about it... and it's amazing! I've started it because dehydration is a BIG Migraine-Trigger for me, so I started carrying water arround basically everywhere I go and it's been one of the most life-changing habits ever for me. 11/10 recomend it!! (It's great to hear it from someone like Matt, sometimes I felt a bit like a freak lol)

For me personally, not bringing alcohol and sweets into my home, is one of the best things I pay attention to lately. Also, getting over perfectionism is really important too. I am putting out my creative projects more and more easily. The worst thing to do, is thinking it has to be perfect before I put something out. That's why I finally started to upload stuff on KZbin like my drum cover. If nobody sees it, then I haven't lost anything, but if only a few people enjoy it, I am happy!

Don't only put your phone upside down on silent! Put it out of the way! One of my colleagues told me to put my phone behind my laptop screen while I work, and that's one of the best pieces of advice I've heard

You have added so much value. I will support you and your program, no matter what. Thank you for all the work you do to help us all be “better” people. Also, CONGRATULATIONS on LESS IS NOW. Such a huge fan of The Minimalists as well. Sharing with anyone that will listen, even if they don’t. I’ve been following a minimalist “lifestyle” for the last 4 years, with imperfections... Your videos continue to inspire and remind me of the life I truly desire. Wishing you and your wife, the very best.

Matt, one more thing about going to bed angry...I don't believe everyone can benefit from staying up to work things out. In fact, there's a large body of research that says many conflicts happen as a result of fatigue when we don't have our the mental clarity. Many psychologists recommend a more custom-made approach for couples who decide on a case basis and are free to sleep on it or stay up late until they hug it out. Hope that helps! P.s. You look just like Ryan from The Office...and your video made me miss that show.

Good comment, but what I think he means isn’t to solve the problem or to work things out before going to sleep, but to stop arguing and say that you’ll continue talking the next day or something like that, or say ok we are pretty tired right now let’s sort thing out tomorrow when we are on our right minds. For me it’s like imagine that person doesn’t wake up the next day you won’t feel bad or guilty that the last time you talked you argued of something that maybe even was insignificant

On the alarm tip, if you wanna go extreme put your phone outside of your bedroom. Also download Alarmy and set it to where you have to do a math equation to turn the alarm off.

Before sleeping I used to put my phone beside me, I wake up on the alarm and as usual take a snooze. Then I decided to put my phone on the shelf above my bed, so I get up and closd the alarm. When I get up to close it I feel like I can wake up and start my day rather than close the alarm while I'm on the bed and continuing sleeping. It's so helpful !!

This Trip gave me a lot of motivation for this year and upcoming projects. Thank you

I say COMPLETELY get rid of junk food, just replace them with healthier versions. Ice cream = Anabolic ice cream, which is protein powder or Greek yogurt, fruit, natural peanut butter or powdered peanut butter, artificial sweetener and a crap load of ice. Chips = Baked potato wedges, Soda = diet soda and the best part is that you can eat them every day.
