At 13:07 where you are screwing the cap all the way down to check the level is not the right way to get the correct level . The manual has that you don't screw on the cap to check the level . Read this . Position oil dipstick on oil filler opening, but do not screw in. Remove oil dipstick and read fluid level.

Good video but a lot of people will not spend $80-100 for an oil suction pump. Showing the procedure without the pump would be instructive for many. By the way, in that process, instead of removing the oil tank to tip it sideways for draining, I suggest putting the bike on its sidestand and removing the drain plug.

Thanks! I can understand people not wanting to buy the oil suction pump. But, it's worth it to me with the time I save. Great tip for the side stand.

The bike should be warm, oil will drain better. The oil fill cap should be lose, For the price of a crush washer and O-Ring why take the chance? Always use the BMW recommended fluids, don't cheap out. BTW please buy the large container, less shit in the landfill. PLEASE talk to the audience about responsible oil recycling. People, you can take your old oil to any shop that does mechanical work. PLEASE don't dump it down the drain. Yes, I was critical, but I do like your video and I know how much work it is to produce video.

Good job. Two comments: (1).The copper washers torque down, and seal the gap because they are soft. But that use hardens them. To reuse, they should be annealed. Do that, by holding the washer in the air with a pair of needle nose pliers, and heating it red hot, with a torch, then letting it air cool. It will be soft again, and can be reused over, and over. (2). My Hanes manual says to check engine oil level, by inserting the dip stick into the hole, but do no screw it in.

Hi just to let you know the manual says to rest the dipstick on top of the threads and don't screw it down in when checking the oil, you'll get a wrong reading and will be running low on oil. I'm in the UK and have the G650GS Sertao version same engine and that's what my manual says, unless yours is different? You can check this US model online manual here and on page 71 it explains how it should be done. Hope this helps. manuals.bmw-motorrad.com/manuals/BA-Extern/IN/BA-INTERNET-COM/PDF/G_0189_RM_0814_07.pdf

I’ve been enjoying your channel. There are a lot of similarities to the GS and my Xchallenge. So far I’ve been using Shell Rotella in my bike. Meets all the specs and costs much less. @BikesCameraAdventure
@BikesCameraAdventure 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'll have to look in that oil you're using. Where do you buy it from? No, my turn signals seem ok. I checked them after your comment and they are still good with no water. I have 39k miles now and only ride a little in the rain.
@Ryan-rn8gk
@Ryan-rn8gk 5 жыл бұрын
@@BikesCameraAdventure Actually the Xchallenge takes non-synthetic 15W40. I get it at Walmart. I saw a lot of people recommend that oil on the forums when I first picked up the bike a few years back. I do some off-road riding with mine in the clay here in the southeast. When I wash the bike I sometimes see rust colored water in the lights from the clay. I will clean them out good this weekend and seal it with RTV.

I just got a 2013 G650gs sertao its got 4,200 miles on it . Is the 15w -50 full synthetic or non synthetic . Is there any worry about going from regular oil to full synthetic as far as the clutch disc's go . I thought I read where your clutch plates wouldn't work right if you didn't put in the same typed of oil and my type I mean full vs regular oil .
@BikesCameraAdventure
@BikesCameraAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
I've ran both types of oil and couldn't tell any difference. It does not specify in the manual. My clutch worked great until around 50k miles, then I just replaced the clutch packs. Plates and springs were ok.

@@BikesCameraAdventure Does the type of oil you use have anything to do with the clutch plate discs ?
@tdunster2011
@tdunster2011 Жыл бұрын
@@Sertao2013 Only use mineral oil in a G650GS until it has done over 6000 miles. After that you can use a semi synthetic like the recommended BMW Advantec [Shell] 15-50w. The issues with full synthetic oils are to do with clutches failing to function correctly due to slippage - and the sprag clutch in the starter motor slipping. People have bikes with over 100k km's on them that run like clockwork - all they ever used was Castrol 4t mineral oil and changed the oil every 5000 km's or so,

@BikesCameraAdventure

Right on! The windscreen is pretty good for 4 season riding. The wind hits me right above my visor on my helmet. A few more inches would fix this, but it allows good air flow for hot days how it is now.

The G 650 GS has an oil reservoir tank right under the oil fill cap. The oil tank does have a drain plug, but you will need to remove the seat, the top fake gas tank plastic and the left side plastic to get to the drain bolt. So, if you have a sucker, it just makes it quicker and you don't have to replace the crush washer under the bolt.
