Facing the reality of a federal prison sentence can be an overwhelming experience. I intimately understand the uncertainty and anxiety that come with this phase of life, as I once stood where you are now.
Despite the challenges, preparation is crucial to ensure a smoother transition and a stronger return to society.
The following strategies are not merely tips; they are tried-and-tested methods that our team, including Michael Santos and me, have personally implemented and documented.
1. Document Your Journey and Release Plan:
Start a journal detailing your plans for your time in prison and your aspirations for after your release. Clearly outline the programs you wish to take, the books you want to read, and your career plans post-release.
Share this with key figures such as your judge, probation officer, family, and potential business partners.
2. Establish a Primary Point of Contact:
Choose someone reliable to manage your affairs outside, including your visitation list and financial matters. Ensure this person is committed and organized to avoid miscommunications and additional stress.
3. Understand the Financial Implications:
Be informed about how fines, restitution, or forfeiture can affect your financial status in prison. Surrender with minimal funds to avoid substantial deductions for restitution from your account.
4. Craft a Deliberate Reading List:
Select books that contribute to your personal growth and align with your future goals. Be intentional in your reading, taking notes, and documenting insights that will improve your life after federal prison.
5. Prepare to Oversee Your Business from Federal Prison:
Familiarize yourself with Bureau of Prisons policies to understand how to legally manage your business while incarcerated. The more transparent you are the more successful you will be.
6. Prepare Personal Belongings:
Bring only essentials and understand the rules about personal items in prison. If you require medications, ensure they are documented in your probation report.
7. Address Medical Preparations:
Consult with your doctor to ensure all your medications are documented and in order. Engage in healthier lifestyle choices now to ease the transition into prison life.
8. Develop a Personal Communication Plan:
Decide on a realistic and manageable communication schedule with your family and network. Avoid making promises that are unsustainable to keep morale high and relationships strong.
9. Develop a Quadrant Guide for Decision Making:
Before surrendering, determine how you will spend your time in federal prison.Use a quadrant system to assess high risk/reward and low risk/reward activities that align with your goals.
10. Start an Exercise and Health Plan:
Begin a physical activity regimen now that you can realistically maintain while incarcerated. Focus on low-risk exercises to avoid injury.

You again are right Justin. With your help and White Collar Advice, you helped me with a release plan and I was able to discuss it with my case manager and sent to my probation officer. I was able to serve 10 months of a 33 month sentence. You guys also helped me understand the importance of preparation for the best possible outcome. I remember talking to you about my sentence and continuing to work on getting out and preparing for life outside of prison. Time goes by and you will be home. You will be facing a new beginning. Please listen to Justin and engage him and his company. Your lawyer doesn’t know the side of sentencing from inside prison. They will get you to the door, white collar helps get you out the door sooner if it’s possible for you to do. And in the very least, they help you get prepared to return home and be successful if that’s what you want. Thanks again Justin. I’m living so much better than I was before prison.

I don’t know why this popped up in my feed but wow, I am really grateful. My brother has been down now for 43 years and I watch him come before the board every two years, utterly unprepared, vague, disorganized plan, taking no responsibility or trying to better himself. I’ve never been in trouble but have found myself recently disabled and can see how your recommendations can be applied to my new circumstances. This advice is really so useful and applicable for ANY life altering change. Thank you!

If this is true, I wouldn’t expect probation, if you lose. Doesn’t make sense.

Hearing you talk about "federal prison"" ... technically sure. Your survival guide might as well be to day camp. Dude....it shouldnt be called prison. "I saw a lot of guys get hurt bad in prison" Oh stabbings, beat to death, thrown off stairs? No. Soccer accidents. Softball injuries. Mostly improperly stretched. They were never the same man! Never the same!

Sure, good idea. here's something for you to read: Recent administrations with the MOST criminal indictments: Trump (Republican) - 215, Nixon (Republican) - 76, Reagan (Republican) - 26. Recent administrations with the LEAST criminal indictments: Obama (Democrat) - 0, Carter (Democrat) - 1, Clinton (Democrat) - 2. Democratic presidencies dating back to 1970 have produced exactly one criminal conviction from investigations into the administration. Republican presidencies have had a total of 91. It is worth taking a second to let that sink in. If you compare 28 years each of Democratic and Republican administrations, 1961-2016, five Presidents from each party. During that period Republicans scored eighteen times more individuals and entities indicted, thirty-eight times more convictions, and thirty-nine times more individuals who had prison time. THAT WAS BEFORE TRUMP and all the folks that have been tried and convicted on his watch. If you dated back to 1970, three Democratic presidents and six Republican presidents. Ninety-one Republican convictions to one Democrat. GOP Presidencies had 124 criminal indictments. Democrats had 3. Yes, you read it correctly: Democrats have less total indictments since 1970 than Donald Trump does. And fewer convictions: 2-1. Prison sentences? Also no help: 14 for GOP Presidencies, one for Democratic. And now, 18 more GOP fanatics indicted in Arizona, April 24th. And, June 3rd, 3 more indicted in Wisconsin. Plus 19 in GA, plus 16 in Michigan. But you think about Fauci.
