Canadian here - I tested a lot of SUV's and ended up picking the CX-5. Interior is super nice, a lot of great safety features standard, the price was great, and it has a regular automatic transmission -not a crappy CVT.
@god12843 жыл бұрын
Yeah same I'm Australian and after test driving the RAV4 and CRV, the CX-5 (top end akera trim) is just uncomparably nicer to drive, is much more maneuverable with better acceleration and handling, nicer seats, better materials that feel much more expensive and heaps of great features along with vastly superior cruise control and lane keeping assist. Btw I tested highest end models of all cars and the top end RAV4 isn't the hybrid one but the CX-5 to me is superior in everything other than boot space which is fine anyway.

The difference is the Subaru can actually go offroad. It is also quite reliable. The CVT is ok as long as you change the fluid. The engine is also perfectly fine. It is just a vehicle for buyers that like to explore the mountains and its certainly my choice.

@moonsapling5 жыл бұрын
@@tommymas1 they dont recomend fluid change EXCEPT you fall under the "extreme driving conditions" category: rain traffic cold weather hot weather offroading I am sure you fall under at least one of those. And when you do Subaru recomends to change the fluid every 30k miles. Thats the little thing many people dont understand and afterwards complain their CVT is bad.
@tommymas15 жыл бұрын
@@moonsapling Not 100% accurate. Subaru extended everyone's CVT warranty for up to 10 years or 100,000. Most dealers will try to talk to out of doing the service or refuse to do it outright. Best thing to do is find a secondary licensed shop that will do it. Subaru of America has said that so long as you keep your receipt, it won't affect the warranty. I'm on my 2nd Forester. 1st one, 2014 XT Touring, had 57k on it and all service was done besides CVT fluid. I now have 2018 XT Touring and if I keep it beyond 50k, I may have it done. Subaru would rather replace the CVT if it fails instead of doing the service. Here is Subaru's definition of severe driving: Quoted from www.worldsubaru.com/subaru-maintenance-schedule.htm "*Examples of Severe Driving Conditions: •Repeated short distance driving. •Driving on rough and/or muddy roads. •Driving in dusty conditions. •Driving in extremely cold weather. •Driving in areas where road salts or other corrosive materials are used. •Living in coastal areas. •Repeated trailer towing."

I think there is a big misunderstanding of so called segment. Most people have a budget limit ahead of segment choice. A base fwd cx9 was 44k driveway a couple of years ago, paying near 45k for any of these smaller suvs don't make much sense. IMO medium SUV should be around 33-40k drive away, where manufacturers have to make smarr compromises to deliver best value for money. And I think FWD mid spec hybrid Rav4 Or base Subaru Forester are two stand outs in the lower price bracket.

Great vid, fellas, loved the format but one minor fact check; you blokes are probably too young to remember but Subaru had 4wd cars in Oz long before the CRV was even a twinkle in the eye of Mr Honda! I think the first ones arrived in the early ''70s. My first was a 1983 Touring Wagon with a 1.8 litre engine, 3, count 'em, 3 speed auto with push-button selectable 4wd and digital dash. Did a tour in '84 with 3 adults, 2 dogs, fully loaded roof rack and trailer up the coast from Brisbane (including 3 days on Fraser Island) to Cairns and across to Normanton in the gulf. From there straight down through western Queensland to Wagga Wagga, NSW, dropped off 2 adults and a dog and headed for Tassie where we got smacked by a motorhome and ended up turned turtle in a shallow Creek. End of trip. Sigh.... I loved that roof rack!!

Nice review lads. Looks like the RAV4 deserves the win but only it's mother could love it. I would only consider the Tiguan, CX-5 and the Tuscon. The "Lego car" Toyota from an asthetic point of view just doesn't have the styling. No smooth lines, all blocky, although admittedly not as noticeable on the dark colour in this review. What's with the square cuts above the wheel, just looks odd and out of place to me. Looks like it was styled in the 70's. Everything else about it sounds great but the look is what gets me in the car in the first place. Each to their own though and I'm sure any car in the list will make someone happy. Cheers!

Not sure how Rav4 can win this battle just base of its Fuel usage? Cx5 and Tiguan feel nice to drive they are neck on neck, tiguan have more tech and practical, and by God they look nice and expensive, , while cx5 have more power and feel tighter. Tiguan highline in this video will wipe the rest of competition, it just have everything ( well but you need to paid for it) while Rav4 it just feel like driving tin can compare to cx5 and tiguan. It's good to do research beforehand, but you need to actually get into the vehicle and drive it. For example I thought I would love the Honda CRV based off of other videos but it turned out to be my least favorite and I thought I wouldn't like the Mazda CX-5 but it ended up being my second choice. We love the RAV4 though! Definitely has so many features and technology that Santa Fe doesn't!

late to the party with my comment, but long after the other cars fall by the wayside and bits start falling off, the Tiguan will still be the premium car you knew it was when you bought it. Plus its easily the best looking of the bunch. you pay for what you want.

I've sat in em all and I'd have to disagree that the Mazda feels mid pack in many ways however not having a digital dash and not having a decent entertainment system could push it down a bit. I don't think it is worth the price premium however. The Sportage is 6k cheaper in similar trim and it uses 3L per 100 km more fuel. Your going to have to do 153,000km to make that 6k up. The Toyota looks tougher but at the expense of looking a bit like a wannabe Jeep.
