Especially with Elden Ring really opening that type of game up to more players especially casuals. It sold more on being a souls like and I'd bet a good portion of the players had no idea who the Monkey King was before buying it. Fighting games alone are niche and DBZ games are a smaller niche within that genre. I think a huge majority of the first day / launch / preorder purchases were made by older games with an itch for nostalgia. It's got me watching Dragon Ball from the start, going to watch it all now lol

I play standard just fine, I have not played BT3 in a while so the muscle memory wasn’t there anymore, was able to adapt, don’t see why one would be better than the other, it’s just preference I’d say.

i remember back in budokai 3 after someone uses those OP skills like after image strike and full power ups etc, the player will received a certain debuff like reduce ki charge reduce defense or power... but in sparking zero they remove it and even gave it a buff... they should return the debuff instead...

The game isnt seriously unbalanced. At least early on. Theres a big skill gap with timing fundamentals and when to use your skill points and what for. Also extending sparking combos and counters and countering counters... But as for some characters being OP I played a UI Goku and dude didnt even push a button and i only won bc of grabs so some characters are crazy good

Don’t use chase pursuit, it uses ki, vanishing will give u ki. Don’t turn on auto guard, you will not be able to side step while they swing, it will lock u in place, it will also trigger on they vanish behind u so you’ll be stuck getting hit no matter how good you are. Always knock them up, dc who u play, knock them upward, takes longer for them to hit the ground, more time to charge, just don’t press the rush chase ender that forces them to the ground, optimal if u not sparking, if u are, plant them instead of letting them fall, the recovery will force them into your ultimate 90 percent of the time, it’s just instinct to mash when your knocked back so use that as often as you can, it also puts them in a vanish state of mind, if they do, heavy ki blast and keep your neutral

5:00 is a pro tip, especially in the air, barely anyone can block it or expects it and it's great for finishing combos. If you're high up you'll get a good few seconds to charge up while they fall and land hard!

8:39 time it to be as close to the bar without going over it unless you boost. Going over is an auto loss. 9:10 you don’t hold the button, press it as close to the end as possible to get that power. 9:38 get it as close to being around square as you can. Throw clashes are just the first to press 2/3 of the buttons first.

I have some questions about the mechanics: Can someone explain to me the purpose of smash attacks (the charged attacks) I don't know what the purpose of them are or when to incorporate them into the gameplay. Are they simply meant to change the timing of your attacks so that they are harder to counter? Is there more to them than that? What is the purpose of lift strikes/grand slashes if I already have a high/low game with the samsh attacks? What do side smash attacks do (left or right + charged square)? I understand up and down for a high/low mixup, but confused by the side ones as there is already a neutral (no direction) smash attack. Which attacks break the guard of your opponent? For super counters am I able to use them for every hit in a combo, or am I only able to use them on the first hit of a chain? Same question for high speed evasion (the instant transmission). This game is very complicated, partly due to the poor tutorial, but I am learning. Thank you

@Brubrukk the purpose of smash attacks are to throw off the timing of your opponents while they are blocking. If you notice that your opponent is blocking constantly you can throw in a smash attack (up/down for the mix) or to try to catch them mashing when they see that you stop attacking. You can follow-up your smash attacks with either a vanish attack, or if you press Dash, a dragon dash which allows you to charge up another attack. It is there mostly for the mix-up and it keep your opponent to time all the different approaches differently so they eventually slip-up. Another thing is that there are 3 levels of charging. Level 1 is a small knockback, Level 2 (perfect smash, release as soon as you see particles from your character) allows you to vanish behind the opponent (if close enough) to surprise them with a launching attack which you can follow-up again. Also, pressing Circle/O allows you to do a lightning attack while they are being launched. It is good for pressure. Level 3 does the most damage and if they counter it with perception, it'll cost them 1 skill point to block. It also pressures people who spam Perception. Lift strike allows you to potentially follow-up with more rush attacks, but it also leaves your opponent in a state in which they can do absolutely nothing until they rise up from the ground. This means they are VERY vulnerable to special or even ultimate moves. It is very good to close out games. The side smashes exist to either continue your pressure while doing rush attacks, since doing the same move twice will shoot them away in a combo. But it is also handy if you want to knock them into a certain direction. F.e there is a wall to your left, then you can try to do a cheeky directional smash attack to the left to knock them into the wall which looks amazing, but also does extra damage because the opponent also takes impact damage from the environment. Guard can be broken with smash attacks. Depending on where the opponent blocks (you can move the directional stick up or down while blocking). If they block neutral, and you hit them with either a high or low smash attack you break their guard. If they block high, go for mid or low, and if they block low, go for high or mid. You can use Super Counters at a start of a combo, on block or when you get hit during a combo. It is very important to learn this as it will stop the full barrage of opponents that give you backshots while they are in Sparking mode. The timing is very strict, thats why you can use it on any physical attack (not supers(as far as I know) or ultimates). So definitely worth to master this. Opponents can vanish your retaliation so it will start a vanish-off, or you Super Counter their vanish which is even tighter in terms of timing. The high speed evasion can only be done before the combo, or during a gap in the combo (since almost no combos are true in this game) and is done by pressing the guard button the moment an attack should hit you. This is possible with Supers and even Ultimates. Again, you gotta get the timing down for it to work. Ultimates is possible but really tight since they are fast as hell. Btw for most people do not use classic controls you should learn standard, if they put it in the game its for a reason the new mechanics are way easier to use with standard and transformations/fusions are easier and faster with the pad than the analog
