@@IWBVS very good question. It depends on many factors, as shown and discussed in the video, for dry wood termites we were told day 1 poison gas at least 24 hours, and day 2 to let poison out and the 3rd day tent off.

when you park your trailer, pay attention to the direction of the wind, specially during the second day when they let the gas out for 24 hours, chemical levels must be below 1 PPM to be safe.

Thanks for posting with so much detail. I have one estimate so far. Hope there is a second tenting company in my area. I learned more from yr video than talking to the company. My house was measured and the quote calls for between 20 and 45 lbs of Vicane gas and the guy told me gas would remain in the tent for 18 to 24 hours. Then he said 16 hours…. Huge range of gas and time. Seems sketchy…

Yes, I agree. When we had our house done, I had long time trying to learn without success. For the question about the price: When small businesses does not have a fixed price for their products or services, they may make it not be transparent about their transactional profit, thus they may not want to disclose things in details to reflect their profit margins. The less they give you, the more money they can make. Therefore, you more you know the details the more bargain power you have, at least to make them accountable for their specific promise. Thank you for taking the time to share, it would help other viewers.

After a house gets fumigated, how likely is it, that it will need another fumigation? Does one fumigation usually take care of drywood termites?
@GeniusAsian2 жыл бұрын
it is likely it will last 7 years. And then your neighbor's termites will fly to your house and start all over again.

Fumigation is used for taking out infestation. It is a gas and that makes it able to penetrate wood concrete and bricks. When the treated area is aired out there is nothing stopping reinfestation from reoccurring. Fumigation is a last resort to big problems it does not help keep out bugs it is used to kill them. It has a one time effect. Regular pesticides like tempo and other liquid pesticides have a long term kill span some up to 18 months.

@@petef.4361Drywood termites can get anywhere in your house so the only real way to prevent them is to treat all wood members prior to construction. Obviously a best case scenario. Drywood doesn't work from the ground up like subterranean. They can enter through roof vents, get in your attic, etc. You can spray the outside of your house with a product like fipronil (various brands available). There are various instruction videos on KZbin. Then you'd need to spray all wood in your attic with a borate product (various brands). You can also do a preventative treatment by spraying a borate in all of your wall voids through a small hole in the drywall that is easily patched. It really depends how thorough you want to be and whether or not you want to hire it out or DIY. Pest control companies can get very expensive very quickly. Tenting is rarely necessary and should be considered a last resort. Pest control companies love it because it's easy money. But tenting has absolutely no preventative qualities. It might kill what's there, but a week later you could get another infestation started. The only real way to prevent is to take a truly preventative approach and that takes different products and some work.

@GeniusAsian2 жыл бұрын
If you are selling the house then the buyer needs inspection called Section 1 items which includes termite report. If you have termite, the buyer will try to negotiate the price to deduct the cost of Section 1 items, usually not using the cheapest contractor. If you are not selling the house, them you must treat it for your own good, because those termites will eat the lumbers until the house falls down.

What's the cost for that house. Isnt there residue
@GeniusAsian3 жыл бұрын
the cost depends on three factors: 1. the cubic feet of the house including the area of the deck if included. 2. the temperature of the day of fumigation 3. how busy they are in your area it is about $2k, the first item is the most important (cubic feet). As shown in the video, there is residue at the beginning, after you open up drawers, it will disappear.

@@craigme2583 the video showed pretty detailed process, so it is not hard to DIY, however California is highly regulated they only sell Vikane to licensed contractors so no DIY avail. Vikane is one cost, the second cost you will need to rent tent tarps, but I can't imagine $30k, that is too expensive. I don't know why Australia does not have tenting, maybe due to earthquake California most common is wood home, thus there must be a solution for termites?

@GeniusAsian3 жыл бұрын
license pest control professional told me that tenting is usually not used for subterranean termites, not because it does not work, it works but it is not economical. To kill subs, you need 3 days of tenting instead of 1 day, and the amount of gas used will be much more.

@@GeniusAsian Subterranean termites live underground, so this process will only kill the termites located inside of the structure. These guys don't live in the wood they're eating unlike the Dry-Wood termite which happen to live inside of the wood. I work for a pest control company here in Mid-Florida; so I can only speak for my state as I'm sure it varies. The typical treatment for subterranean termites involve poisoning the soil around the perimeter of the structure, with fipronil ( what our company uses ) so as they come for their next meal; they'll pass through the poison. You CAN kill subterranean termites with this process, but nothing is stopping more from coming back under the soil.
