I live in Ohio. I nearly got scam by my pest control company that I was with for about 4 years. They wanted to charge me $1500 to install the Sentricon bait stations around my 1250sqft home. This was a "discounted" price also since I was already a customer. Plus $60 per month for 2 years for the warranty ( He did not mentioned this. I just happened to have read it.). They used several scare tactics to get me to sign. Such as "the house down the street needed $30K in termite damage repair". I ended up signing but after thinking about it overnight and doing a little research I canceled the contract the next day ( had a 3 day cancel window). In fact I completely canceled all my pest services from them. I ended up DIYing it with trenching and using a 78oz bottle of Taurus SC for $100. It was back breaking and time consuming but well worth it.

@gr8fulnbama439 Taurus and Termidor are very similar products. Termidor just marks their prices up because they can. Drilling patios is such an old school thing haha! I am 100% compliant with state laws. I talk to my Ag inspector every week! :) you know Termidor and Taurus have the exact same active ingredient??
@freespirit19752 ай бұрын
@@DanTheBugMan I don't think they have the EXACT same ingredient, but it is close enough that Bayer sued Control Solutions but didn't win the lawsuit. The reason I say this is that 16 years ago, that large company that starts with a "T" trenched my house for termites and I helped the tech. The contract I signed said "Termidor SC". That solution had a sweet, kind of pleasant odor (this is also how it is described on the MSDS for Taurus SC). That solution killed two active termite infestations on my house. It was so non-repellent that the termites brought the mud we treated inside the wall for tube construction and two days later I started smelling the chemical in the bedroom. Two days later the smell went away and they were dead. This past month my son and I finished trenching my house again as a preventative treatment since it had been 16 years and I was sure the chemical was now defunct. So instead of paying the T company over $400 a year again to maintain the contract for a tech to walk around my house once a year and stare at the clouds and ANYTHING else besides look at the ground at the base of my brick fascia where they should (I watched them and complained and they still did a worthless job), I purchased Termidor SC for about the same cost and we did it all ourselves. Here's the thing, the Termidor SC HAS NO ODOR, and it is actually described as "odorless" on the MSDS for Termidor SC. Therefore, I think the "T" company charged me for Termidor SC and gave me cheaper Taurus SC based on the fact that it had that odor. Again, I will say that the Taurus worked so it is an effective chemical. I believe that Taurus and Termidor are SO close to being the same chemical that they may both work equally well, which is probably why the lawsuit happened. I took Organic Chemistry in college and my theory is that Taurus is what chemists call a "stereoisomer" of Termidor. A stereoisomer is the exact same chemical structure but it is a mirror image and can work the same way. Stereoisomers CAN have some unique qualities that its mirror image doesn't have, for example an odor that the other doesn't have. As matter of fact many of the chemicals being sold as generic Viagra are probably mirror image stereoisomers. Finally, I still have bait stations (empty, without bait or wood) around my house from 16 years ago. At that time, I killed an infestation outside another bedroom, but on the other side of my house they were inside the wall of my kitchen BEFORE they finally hit one of my bait stations, and I had even put them FIVE feet apart, twice the 10 foot frequency recommended. So, I don't trust bait stations. I panicked then and called the T company. Trenching and flooding is the way to go, but professional companies don't want to do it anymore because it is BACKBREAKING work hand digging with a mattock and you can't get a powered trencher beside a house's exterior wall. Also, we DIY'rs can NOT get our hands on the injection tool (proprietary?) used for Termidor's new HE version. But, I'm not sure it would be effectively injected in heavy prairie clay like I have anyway.

I've been in the industry for 11 years now and I think the Sentricon stations have been amazing including with Formosan termites the reason companies normally spray first is because it normally has a faster kill time because the termites are already on the home but I've also seen Sentricon AGs work amazing as well (with a little power-aid)

bait stations have always been the answer for preventative, we use the termidor he in soil and through wall foam and some form of dust applicant with the growth inhibitor and above ground bait stations to do the job for active infestations. Any company that sells bait stations as a end all be all is a scam.
@nathanskelley62293 ай бұрын
I install, and I have seen them work and eliminate colonies, along with indoor stations or core stations. Every threshold is different and it all depends on a tech doing a check properly in crawls and anywhere you can safely access. The baits I check get checked twice a year and we video our inspections so that we know the tech is actually checking a property correctly.

Beyond that we use termidor treatments for anything moderate to heavy activity. We also don’t manipulate or lie to anyone, Orkin would fire someone for being dishonest. “Hey Mr & Mrs, we offer a termite preventative product call sentricon, it does work based off of how termites forage but we offer a guarantee on it incase they do make it passed the stations (it happens but our branch has only had 2 houses in 10 years) we come out yearly and inspect the house inside and out and change the bait at yearly intervals.

Terminix, the company I work for are actually the ones who were 1st in patenting a termite control plan and patenting those bait stations. They’ve been scientifically developed over YEARS of R&D. Doing a soil treatment for termites will not work, you have to trench around the home and place gallons and gallons of product around the home for a complete eradication of termites. Just a tiny bit of that bait has the strength to kill thousands and thousands of termites.

Hey Dan great video. I agree with the baiting system not being very effective. However; treating live activity with an above ground bait is 100% the best way to eliminate a termite colony. The reason we use baits is because under a liquid only contract, we are not allowed to treat via above ground baiting- per our department of agriculture. In our state, proper protocol should be Liquid + Bait preventative treatment.

Taurus SC which a cheaper knockoff of Termidor SC after BASF’s patent expired. It works pretty good for termites and ant control like Termidor. Both of which utilize the active ingredient of Fipronil. For subterranean termites I wouldn’t use anything else, not even premise, which utilizes the neonicotinoid (synthetic nicotine) and breaks down in the soil far quicker then Fipronil. As for drywoods it’s always best to tarp the property. That will zap the termites colonies the inspectors detected along with the ones not detected. Local treatment for drywoods is a roll of the dice.

Liquid treatments don’t eliminate the colony. It’s common for infestations to have two or more colonies, with each colony having millions of termites. Liquid treatments will also dissipate, and termites only need to find a gap half the thickness of a credit card to exploit. If you want to dig a trench and fill it with chemicals just for it to not eliminate the colonies, by all means go for it, but it’s an inferior option for eliminating and preventing termite infestations.

Bait should ALWAYS be secondary. If it's just the money situation, I don't charge for station checks, I offer that as a free service on top of other services or part of the initial implementation. Our company would put the stations in free for customers that had a liquid bond that had active infestations. We would go up on the bond about $100 after that. So a bond that was $125-$150 would go up to $225-$250. If the company does go up on it in a few years, it's still worth it since sentricon is so expensive to install and plus your house could get Termites again.

Corteva leases the sentricon bait stations to the pest control co and in turn they past the cost to the customer. The low initial cost and ease of installation is why companies uses them. It is also cheaper for the customer for the initial installation vs a soil barrier chemical treatment. However, the active ingredient, Recruit HD, does work well when installed and spaced properly. It only last 5 years and eaten bait does need replacement. The consumer con is that they are proprietary and not sold to the consumer (ebay is a loop hole). It's a bait and termiticide all in one while other bait stations use wood to attract termites but must be replaced with a termiticide if termites are observed. The bottom line is that they do work better than other bait stations and great as a preventative. Liquid is proven, works fast but require more labor and initial cost. I actually use both Termador and Sentricon here in Florida at my house.
