I live in Ohio. I nearly got scam by my pest control company that I was with for about 4 years. They wanted to charge me $1500 to install the Sentricon bait stations around my 1250sqft home. This was a "discounted" price also since I was already a customer. Plus $60 per month for 2 years for the warranty ( He did not mentioned this. I just happened to have read it.). They used several scare tactics to get me to sign. Such as "the house down the street needed $30K in termite damage repair". I ended up signing but after thinking about it overnight and doing a little research I canceled the contract the next day ( had a 3 day cancel window). In fact I completely canceled all my pest services from them. I ended up DIYing it with trenching and using a 78oz bottle of Taurus SC for $100. It was back breaking and time consuming but well worth it.

@gr8fulnbama439 Taurus and Termidor are very similar products. Termidor just marks their prices up because they can. Drilling patios is such an old school thing haha! In my opinion, drilling is not necessary. especially if you just treat around the porch. Taurus and Termidor both eliminate the colony so there's no point in drilling everything! I am 100% compliant with state laws. I talk to my Ag inspector every week! :) you know Termidor and Taurus have the exact same active ingredient??
@freespirit1975
@freespirit1975 3 ай бұрын
@@DanTheBugMan I don't think they have the EXACT same ingredient, but it is close enough that Bayer sued Control Solutions but didn't win the lawsuit. The reason I say this is that 16 years ago, that large company that starts with a "T" trenched my house for termites and I helped the tech. The contract I signed said "Termidor SC". That solution had a sweet, kind of pleasant odor (this is also how it is described on the MSDS for Taurus SC). That solution killed two active termite infestations on my house. It was so non-repellent that the termites brought the mud we treated inside the wall for tube construction and two days later I started smelling the chemical in the bedroom. Two days later the smell went away and they were dead. This past month my son and I finished trenching my house again as a preventative treatment since it had been 16 years and I was sure the chemical was now defunct. So instead of paying the T company over $400 a year again to maintain the contract for a tech to walk around my house once a year and stare at the clouds and ANYTHING else besides look at the ground at the base of my brick fascia where they should (I watched them and complained and they still did a worthless job), I purchased Termidor SC for about the same cost and we did it all ourselves. Here's the thing, the Termidor SC HAS NO ODOR, and it is actually described as "odorless" on the MSDS for Termidor SC. Therefore, I think the "T" company charged me for Termidor SC and gave me cheaper Taurus SC based on the fact that it had that odor. Again, I will say that the Taurus worked so it is an effective chemical. I believe that Taurus and Termidor are SO close to being the same chemical that they may both work equally well, which is probably why the lawsuit happened. I took Organic Chemistry in college and my theory is that Taurus is what chemists call a "stereoisomer" of Termidor. A stereoisomer is the exact same chemical structure but it is a mirror image and can work the same way. Stereoisomers CAN have some unique qualities that its mirror image doesn't have, for example an odor that the other doesn't have. As matter of fact many of the chemicals being sold as generic Viagra are probably mirror image stereoisomers. Finally, I still have bait stations (empty, without bait or wood) around my house from 16 years ago. At that time, I killed an infestation outside another bedroom, but on the other side of my house they were inside the wall of my kitchen BEFORE they finally hit one of my bait stations, and I had even put them FIVE feet apart, twice the 10 foot frequency recommended. So, I don't trust bait stations. I panicked then and called the T company. Trenching and flooding is the way to go, but professional companies don't want to do it anymore because it is BACKBREAKING work hand digging with a mattock and you can't get a powered trencher beside a house's exterior wall. Also, we DIY'rs can NOT get our hands on the injection tool (proprietary?) used for Termidor's new HE version. But, I'm not sure it would be effectively injected in heavy prairie clay like I have anyway.

I live on Long Island NY and have been commercial applicator since 2008. Now I have no beef whatsoever with your video. For me personally, I do more servicing of Advance termite bait stations from previous exterminators who no longer do the service for whatever their reason may be. I do more of the Advance termite bait station than chemical barrier treatments. Again, personally I tell my customer the entire shpeel on different ways of managing their termite issue, but more times than not it comes down to dollars and cents with them. I am not a pushy used car salesman, so explaining their options, and allowing them to decide what fits their budget generally works for me, and of course there have been times where I have chosen to walk away from certain situations that were counter-productive to running a legitimate business. I like your videos, keep up the great work.

My house was built in last quarter of 2018 by Taylor Morrison, it came with one year of free bait station which was later removed. Anyway, I sign up with another company 2 years ago, the initial installation is $350 and $75 quarterly for monitoring the bait station. There are 12 bait stations, the house is 3345 sq ft. Technician came yesterday, 5 minutes later he’s done. I have a camera footage of him taking out one of the bait look at it for 1 second then put it right back, I don’t know if he had inspected all the stations. Glad that I come across your video because previous research I have done all suggest bait station is worth it and Atlanta is at higher risk of termite infestation. They check on the stations once a year. I was like, I am paying you that much for you to come out once a year and check on them. I just called a smaller company today that was $800 the first year with the Advanced Baiting System and $200 each year after with a bi-yearly check on the stations. I did inquire if they spray around the foundation as an additional barrier. They said, they do not spray outside anymore and that it was the old way of doing it unless they were in my house then they would drill and spray into the wood. If we’re talking unlimited damage repair and free retreats upon new damage…yeah I think it’s worth 1200-1400 depending on the size of the home. If your warranty is crap, really any termite service is a risk. There is never such a thing as 100% risk free from termites in my opinion. Baiting or liquid. You were however wrong about wood being in stations. It’s not wood, but pure cellulose infused with noviflumuron. The company I am with actually covers the cost of damage if something does happen with the system in place. I know other companies offer retreat warranties as well. They also treated around my front door patio too. But then they install the Sentricon bait stations. Initial cost was just $830 for the liquid treatment and bait stations. Once a year they will come to check the termite bait stations and charge $330 each time. Each time they didn't replace the bait with new one and didn't find any termite activity. I became skeptical this year on how effective are they checking for termites. They don't go into my basement to check or poke around. They only check the bait stations. Hey Dan great video. I agree with the baiting system not being very effective. However; treating live activity with an above ground bait is 100% the best way to eliminate a termite colony. The reason we use baits is because under a liquid only contract, we are not allowed to treat via above ground baiting- per our department of agriculture. In our state, proper protocol should be Liquid + Bait preventative treatment.

@nixedd 5 ай бұрын
There are issues with both liquid and bait but in coastal areas, bait is better just due to sandy soil and heavy storms and rain that degrade the liquid treatment at a much faster pace. No pest company and 100% guarantee that their liquid treatment will create a full barrier around the home due to obstructions in the soil from rocks and things of that nature. I've been in the industry for 11 years now and I think the Sentricon stations have been amazing including with Formosan termites the reason companies normally spray first is because it normally has a faster kill time because the termites are already on the home but I've also seen Sentricon AGs work amazing as well (with a little power-aid)

Hi! Thank you so much for this awesome video! I recently (2 months ago) decided not to renew my bait station subscription ($389 year) and they did actually come back and get the bait stations now I have holes all around my yard. They were the black bait station you showed. I came here to find out what I should do about the holes and if then being there will actually encourage termite activity and to see what I needed to do instead of the bait stations (I have that answer now because of you). Now I need to know do I buy the stations myself to fill the holes, buy filler dirt or what?

I install, and I have seen them work and eliminate colonies, along with indoor stations or core stations. Every threshold is different and it all depends on a tech doing a check properly in crawls and anywhere you can safely access. The baits I check get checked twice a year and we video our inspections so that we know the tech is actually checking a property correctly.

Just watched the whole video, and from my memory, he never said that the bait stations didn’t work. He was saying that there is no guarantee WHEN THEY will work, In which the official statement said it takes “up to a year” for bait stations versus “up to 30 days” for the liquid method. It seemed he was more against the fact that companies offering the bait stations make you feel as if you must renew the subscription (re bait) in order for you to be free. But even then, he said it’s not a guarantee because of how long it can take to work.

Your information is very helpful. I use stations at a property in the Philippines but because of their paths, the concrete we get a good idea of their paths but it is not the only method. Using them for six months actually just caused them to use another area and fortunately it was out of my area of responsibility. We also have times of the year where it floods for weeks. I use recycled plastic bottles, cardboard, scrap wood wrapped in poison soaked with the bait/poison. Agreed they should be held accountable by the Dept. of Agriculture. If small business's, contractors were more honest/ethical like you they'd be more successful. We also spray the house, inside out and surrounding area. We get 1-2' mounds every so many months. The tropics for you. Appreciate your videos.

You need to look more into it man, I’ve been doing pest control for almost 11 years now and I have seen those stations work great. I’ve serviced them myself and have seen them work. Terminix, the company I work for are actually the ones who were 1st in patenting a termite control plan and patenting those bait stations. They’ve been scientifically developed over YEARS of R&D. Doing a soil treatment for termites will not work, you have to trench around the home and place gallons and gallons of product around the home for a complete eradication of termites. Just a tiny bit of that bait has the strength to kill thousands and thousands of termites.

I work at Orkin and we typically only use sentricon for preventative (with a guarantee that we will use termidor if termites become present) and light termite activity on a home (with termidor in the active areas). Beyond that we use termidor treatments for anything moderate to heavy activity. We also don’t manipulate or lie to anyone, Orkin would fire someone for being dishonest. “Hey Mr & Mrs, we offer a termite preventative product call sentricon, it does work based off of how termites forage but we offer a guarantee on it incase they do make it passed the stations (it happens but our branch has only had 2 houses in 10 years) we come out yearly and inspect the house inside and out and change the bait at yearly intervals.

Taurus SC which a cheaper knockoff of Termidor SC after BASF’s patent expired. It works pretty good for termites and ant control like Termidor. Both of which utilize the active ingredient of Fipronil. For subterranean termites I wouldn’t use anything else, not even premise, which utilizes the neonicotinoid (synthetic nicotine) and breaks down in the soil far quicker then Fipronil. As for drywoods it’s always best to tarp the property. That will zap the termites colonies the inspectors detected along with the ones not detected. Local treatment for drywoods is a roll of the dice.

Our company would put the stations in free for customers that had a liquid bond that had active infestations. We would go up on the bond about $100 after that. So a bond that was $125-$150 would go up to $225-$250. If the company does go up on it in a few years, it's still worth it since sentricon is so expensive to install and plus your house could get Termites again.

I sell sentricon bait stations for one of the major companies. When i do my inspections i always check the termite monitors that our customers get around the house and i see that pribably 80% of them have termites on them. Termites are just like anything else their just trying to survive. Sentricon works because it's just basic common sense, put a higher amount of food around the house thats easier and closer to get too. Its not that it has a higher "technology" it just saves people in the long run.

Corteva leases the sentricon bait stations to the pest control co and in turn they past the cost to the customer. The low initial cost and ease of installation is why companies uses them. It is also cheaper for the customer for the initial installation vs a soil barrier chemical treatment. However, the active ingredient, Recruit HD, does work well when installed and spaced properly. It only last 5 years and eaten bait does need replacement. The consumer con is that they are proprietary and not sold to the consumer (ebay is a loop hole). It's a bait and termiticide all in one while other bait stations use wood to attract termites but must be replaced with a termiticide if termites are observed. The bottom line is that they do work better than other bait stations and great as a preventative. Liquid is proven, works fast but require more labor and initial cost. I actually use both Termador and Sentricon here in Florida at my house.

This 100% has an agenda due to Sentricon pissing you off. Bait stations are needed if liquid application is impossible. It's still better having something than nothing. Bait should ALWAYS be secondary. If it's just the money situation, I don't charge for station checks, I offer that as a free service on top of other services or part of the initial implementation. But if I need to replace Bait, I charge. I liked your channel, but this is just making pest controllers who have tried to help their clients look bad. This video will always come up whenever I recommend bait stations in the future. So thank you, now I have to try and protect someone's home, where liquid can't get to. Like their prize-winning garden beds against their home. Try convincing them to trench up their garden 😂 they'd rather have termites eat their house then have anything hurt their garden.

You don't need any .the stations don't have any bait in them until active termites are found eating the wood stakes

What a video . Completely agree 100% . I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve crawled customers houses who had those bait stations and found active termites . Termite bait stations are indeed a complete scam . Liquid treatment is the way to go . Can’t go wrong with fipronil .

Can’t speak on the sentricon ones but part of the process with trelona ones is regularly checking the stations and the house itself. Also some people don’t seem to notice the difference between the monitoring stations and bait stations from trelona. Regardless though I think trelona is fine as a preventative step if you keep up with the yearly bond, however if you have an active site I’d go liquid

I have the spectazide stakes. Two popped, after checking I did not see any termites. It looks as if they popped after getting wet and the connector that holds them down deteriorated away for a few months of being in the ground.

Ive had good luck with bait stations over the years. Worse luck with liquid over the same time

Do you go back out and reinstall liquid if they change landscaping and dig up the liquid barrier.

Liquid treatments don’t eliminate the colony. It’s common for infestations to have two or more colonies, with each colony having millions of termites. Liquid treatments will also dissipate, and termites only need to find a gap half the thickness of a credit card to exploit. If you want to dig a trench and fill it with chemicals just for it to not eliminate the colonies, by all means go for it, but it’s an inferior option for eliminating and preventing termite infestations.

Disagree based on my homes termite and treatment experiences. Liquid is far more effective long term.

@@dm285 The University of Florida just published a study earlier this year in the Journal of Economic Entomology showing the effectiveness of both and showed that liquid treatments are an inferior method of treatment and prevention. The study showed that liquid treatments impact to be as little as 1.5% of the termite population being taken care of, meanwhile bait stations have product that is brought back and distributed throughout the colony and wipes out the entire colony.

Sounds like you ve been in the business about 3 years. Baiting works perfectly along side an effective pesticide if monitored correctly and it's much safer than applying 250gallons of strait pesticide that will leach and runoff and break down.. In the business 35 years and it baiting works.

I’ve used Termidor SC, Termidor HE, Taurus for years all fipronil active ingredient. I agree on the bait stations. Dow and larger pest companies use for ease of use and higher recurring revenue. We’ve never pushed as it felt like not doing our customers right. A con on my opinion. When real estate transfers a liquid treatment is recommended if a liquid treatment has not been performed in the previous 5 years . Those large companies actually liquid treat when Sub termites damage the structure - then go back to monitoring bait stations. I don’t get it. It’s the scare tactics - 😂 Bad business to me.

Prevention. Above ground stations internally . Liquid barrier after colony is eliminated, in ground stations as an interceptor. Please come to Australia you will change your mind pretty quickly
