Hey man, I hope you are doing well. We need more videos like this because you are doing amazing work. I already shared some of your breakdowns with my friends who are new to box. Cannot wait to see 2022-2023 breakdown clips!!

This is so helpful. The guys I play (field) pickup with, half of them don't call the picks much less stay or switch. Oh well. I didn't need my shoulder to be in its socket anyway. :-D

#10 Switch - used in box (and field) lacrosse for defenders to communicate who is guarding who. Defenders will switch which offensive player they are guarding to make defense easier and more efficient #9 Stay - Fighting through - the opposite of switch. Staying (or fighting through) is commonly used for an onball defender that intends to stay on the ball carrier and get through whatever picks are going to be set. #8 Help/Support and Slide - showing help and support essentially means offering whoever the defender guarding the ball carrier is just that, help and support in case he gets beat. A slide is something that's used when a defense does get beat and a defender has to leave his man to stop the ball carrier. #7 Double - leaving your defender to pressure the ball carrier and (hopefully) cause an offensive turnover. High pressure defenses will double in specific scenarios to get the ball back. #6 Open - This is used to defend pick and rolls more effectively. If a defender recognizes a pick is coming toward him. Instead of doing nothing and getting hit, what that defender can do is called an "open" which basically just means turning toward the oncoming pick and grabbing that player which would render the pick ineffective #5 Pass - Filtering offensive players down the line of defenders. Passing the player you are guarding down to your teammate basically means you are letting whoever you are playing defense with that you are waiting for the next offensive player to come into the zone to guard. So you would "pass" him the other offensive player. #4 Roll out - Another effective way of defending pick and rolls. Instead of opening, we roll out and quite literally circle around the oncoming pick. #3 Getting to hands (pressure) - All defenses should have the mentality of getting to whoever is carrying the ball on offense and pressuring them. This is what getting to hands means. You want o poke, slap, lift, the offensive players hands without sacrificing your position. It's pressure, but it's controlled pressure. You don't want to lunge out and get beat - just maintain the player in front of you. #2 Muck - This refers to not picking up a ball that is late in the shot clock. You'll see this all the time in the NLL (depending on the scenario). Instead of picking up the ball when there's 5 seconds left on a shot clock on defense, just let the time expire. If you pick the ball up and the offensive players force a turnover they essentially get a free reset. Which equals more defense, which is tiring. #1 Overtop and Underneath - You'll hear it all the time. The top most defender onball cannot get beat overtop. In other words, we need to force the ball carrier down into the corner. Defenses breakdown when offensive players get overtop. Slides need to happen and offenses become much more difficult to defend. The lowest onball defender cannot get beat underneath because then the offensive player has a 1v1 with the goalie. We always want to force the ball carrier to our help/support
