@@fobbitoperator3620 Respectfully I mist also rebut your comment and say that your assertion is total bullshit. A double edge safety razor only has one blade but you can position the blade closer to the skin which gets you a closer shave. The only downside to a safety razor is that it _will_ take more time and require more technique than a cartridge razor. If you have anything to say to the contrary, I would say that you are simply biased and full of shit unless you have used a DE razor correctly and for ~ a month to develop proper technique. I have a problem with "shaving against the grain". I know a good percentage of men (including myself) that shave against the grain. Not only does it make our skin feel like a babys butt, but we never get any ingrown hairs or bumps.

I've been shaving against the grain since I started shaving and I barely have any problems. My skin is baby smooth the first day, sometimes even the first two days, and once I get stubble after 4-5 days I'll shave again if I must. I do however tend to get razor burn if I shave after 2-3 days, which is why I don't really do it. Oftentimes I'll not shave for a whole week if I don't really have any semi-important appointments, where I want to look nice and clean. I probably look like a homeless person by the end of that week, but my skin doesn't get irritated, so it works for me.
I confirm that the safety razor thing is true because im hammered and shaved with mine before watching this and i have a little razor burn and an open cut. All in all it'll man you up haha

Alpha one correction, look up the "Three pass shave" first with the grain, cross grain, then against the grain. This is called gradual beard reduction. This is how they perform a shave when you get a strait razor shave. With the proper prep, technique and not using canned goo, you will not have ANY irritation.
@Yorker19985 жыл бұрын
You CAN shave against the grain just as long as you shave with the grain first. You simply can't get a truly close clean shave without going against the grain no matter if it's a DE or 6 bladed razor.

You're right on most things. For the shaving part, you can shave against the grain. It's even a must to get a baby smooth result! It's all about the right preparation, products and the right tool. Last but not least, take your time for a good shave. Your razor has to be laser sharp! Problem is that people put too much pressure on it with a relative dull knife. The knife must do the work, just like a good chefs knife. You have to build it up, first round with the grain and second or third against the grain. Also make your own lather and apply it with a brush. Not too thick. I use the hard shaving soap in the green cup from Proraso and lather it up in a seperate bowl with a pig hair brush. Recently shaving with a safety razor after ditching the cassette razor. Planning to make a step to a straight razor since I am also sharpening my own kitchen knives. Lookup Geofatboy on here. He has the best shaving tips you can get.

@bunjier40417 жыл бұрын
Ehm, I disagree with the "don't shave against the grain" point. You might as well not shave at all if you don't shave against the grain. That will give the the closest shave. Here's what I've found works best with a safety razor: -Hot shower -Let brush sit in water to soften the bristles -Get a thick, rich lather with shaving soap -Pull the skin and shave WITH the grain -Rinse blade frequently -Lather face again -Shave AGAINST the grain, using little to no pressure -Rinse face off, apply aftershave and styptic pencil if needed -Change blade every 2-3 days I think what you mean is don't shave against the grain without shaving with the grain first.

I shave with a straight rasor first with the grain thrn cross the grain. I find it easier on the skin.
@ShaiYammanee6 жыл бұрын
I find doing a second, and possible third, pass across the grain is easier on my skin. I find that I get horrendous razor burn, even with new blades. It isn't as close as shaving against the grain, but it is perfectly fine for a day to day shave.
One pass with the grain, one against it. I use a fresh blade everytime and nivea aftershave when I'm done. To be fair, my skin isn't very sensitive towards razors.

Irish Spring soap is the only bar soap I can really use that doesn't make my skin on my hands peel till they bleed. Its weird. I can get almost anything else on my hands bleach, gas, aftershave but Irish Spring is the only bar soap I can use on my hands it seems.
@Itz_KLONOPIN7 жыл бұрын
Something important to note is that everyone has different grains you need to learn. For instance my neck hair and the sides of my chin grow in diagonally. So if you’re getting cuts or burns in certain areas when you think you’re going with the grain then pay attention which direction the hair grows in that spot.
@mladenjerkic61054 жыл бұрын
Actually a DE safety razor gets you a closer and a smoother shave than a cartrige razor.
@shojingod7 жыл бұрын
I will correct you on something. If you do a proper three pass shave with a safety razor your going to get a better shave than any cartridge razor. All shave quality is always compared to the best shave which is at a barber with a straight razor and other than straight razor shaving, a safety is the next best thing.

I disagree with the "shaving against the grain" aspect. Working where I do, I must be clean shaven, and I cannot achieve this by only shaving with the grain, with a safety razor. Shaving against the grain is doable without irritation, so long as you remember to do this as your third and final pass, with the first being with, and the second being across the grain. Proper preparation of the face is also important in avoiding razor burn and other unpleasant experiences.

less good of a shave with a safety razor? WHAT? First time i used one, it was the closest shave i've ever had! it takes some more time, but it's so much better for the hard spots! also, first shave with the grain, second and closer shave against the grain. Watch every safety razor guide here on youtube and they will always do a second shave against the grain! christ, and the latter thing is just wrong, you need a decent latter to keep the water between the latter and your skin, this way the pores and hair follicles stay open, thats why you don't shave over parts where there is no soap. this skin will dry, close the pores and if you go back over it you scrape the skin instead of sliding over it and thus have irritation! Granted you don't need to apply it like whipcream on icecream but the general rule shoul be "when you see the collor of the skin, it should be thicker."

I use my Shavette and my Safety Razor (Muhle R-41) And I’ve never had razor bumps or ingrown hairs since! 🙏👍Traditional wet shaving 💈, using a good badger boar or synthetic knot brush is ideal and a good shaving soap like Proraso, Taylor of old bond Street, Stirling or any of the great artisans here in the USA

Some great advice here Alpha - though I do far into the camp where I have to shave against the grain because if I don't, I have 5 o'clock shadow by 10am. My advice for anyone in the same situation would be to shave with the grain first and get the hair as short as possible, before going against it. Yes, it means technically shaving twice each morning but using a proper shaving brush and safety razor makes it super quick.
