My cat died at 11.5 years in Dec. 2022. I used to freak out and spray her with water when she's scratch my furniture. Now, I don't want to get rid of the furniture BECAUSE of the claw marks. In the larger scheme of things, that sofa or chair is a worthless object vs. a soul who loves you and depends on you for literally everything.

My childhood cat Lisa passed away at 20 a few weeks ago. She was the most gentle cat I’ve ever met. When my mom or I played with her, she always had her claws retracted so she wouldn’t scratch us. When I was a child she allowed me to put dolls clothing on her. She would also give soft little love bites, very careful so it wouldn’t hurt. I loved her so much and I miss her terribly.

1. Do not raise your voice or make sudden loud noises before cats as their hearing is extremely sensitive. They perceive the loud person/ thing as a threat. 2. Do not tease cats - like, pulling their tail or waking them when asleep. 3. Do not declaw 4. Do not indulge in rough play 5. No harsh discipline rather use positive reinforcement 6. Care about their needs like combing them regularly or cleaning their litter box 7. Respect their territory. 8. Do not frequently interrupt their sleep as it leads to stress. 9. Do not play pranks on a cat as they feel insecure. Do not dress up a cat 10. Do not force them to interact with new pets/persons/ environments. Give them time.

Declawing is a violent, invasive, painful, and unnecessary mutilation that involves 10 separate amputations-not just of cats' nails but of their joints as well. Its long-term effects include skin and bladder problems and the gradual weakening of cats' legs, shoulders, and back muscles. DONT DECLAW

I AGREE 100% Declawing a cat IS animal cruelty. As a "pet parent" that's had both dogs and cats, I would never have a cat declawed! It takes away their way of defending themselves against predators / enemies. Fortunately, the stat I live in has banned declawing cats. Praise God! The host of the show "My cat from hell" even stated declawing cats is cruel.

Same here. I adopted my then 8 yr old Siamese-mix girl from a good shelter. Seeming bewildered at the loss of her previous family, she hid from me for only a couple of days but soon came out to her feeding station and litter box. When we connected, her behavior made me conclude that she had never been abused. Such a polite cat, she's never clawed any furniture or jumped up to the kitchen counter. She enjoys grooming sessions, toys, scratching stations and beds around the house, but prefers to sleep with me!

@@jerushamaxwell281 I now had Marry for three months now and everything is good. She's 2 and a half year old. I also got her from a shelter. She had two previous owners which the first one gave Marry to the shelter when she was born and the second one kicked her out of the house and the picked her up off the street at five months old so she sat at the shelter till I brought her home last December. She's a good cat and I don't understand why no one brought her home. She sat in a cage for over a year. I'm so happy to save her from having to sit in a cage day in and day out watching people come and go wondering when someone will take her home. I saw her and I loved her at the first second. I promised her she would never see that cage again. I was sad hearing that she was there for a long time. I love my cat. You and I we got awesome cats.

Once just as I was quickly extending my arm to crack a stiff elbow, my cat jumped up and I accidentally hit her face. She immediately ran away. After using the restroom I went to the other room and found her and the look of distrust on her face was something I will never forget. But I apologized as best I could and gave her a treat. I think she understood it was an accident, because she stayed with me the rest of the night, and the next day she was loving as ever and it was like it never happened.

I have a cat that used to attack another cat, but after spraying her & telling her no every single time, she doesn't do it anymore. I talk to the feral cats that sleep & eat at my place. I tell them I'm going to the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, outside or desk-chair & they learn what it means. It's just teaching them what your're doing, so they'll know. There was a real scared feral cat, after a few years she learned - that when I said I'm at my desk-chair - she would come in from outside to eat. She sees me at my desk-chair, I turn my head & look at her - she's not running out the door. When I'm going to make a noise, like the can opener - I say: make noise & they know it's coming.

I had a Devon Rex years ago. His breeder repossessed a cat from a buyer because he had been declawed. 😢 She offered him to me for free because "he will live alone in an enclosure forever" unless she could find a good loving home for him. Of course, I took the cat. He was traumatized for life, and if anyone tried to touch his feet, he would recoil in fear or in pain. NEVER DECLAW A CAT!!!

I feel your pain, heartbreak and frustrating anguish!! We also inherited ( under duress) a declawed cat Casey beautiful black beauty. Because I already had 2 cats normal with claws. Casey was forced to spend his life in an enclosed room. We did our best to make him comfortable, bought him china dishes, water fountain, snacks, bedding, and we did our best to give him wuvies ❤. One of our other cat actually found a way to open his door . So we had to duct tape his door every time we went in to clean his box, bring him food, etc… I saw this precious cat suffer a lot. He walked different too !! We did our best to spend time with him as he was all alone . Eventually Casey developed cancer . His former owner feed him a diet of dry kibble. And sink water in spite of me providing water for them both before I aquired ownership. Casey withered away from a fluffy 22 lbs to a sad 9 lbs. he died in our arms on way to the vet. We miss you buddy. Rest In Peace Casey.

I dont know if this was wrong but a cat we had at our house, Princess, was a kind of left with us individual who was given the normal, for a pet in our family, the necessary care and was kind of given the freedom of the house and yard. She ingratiated herself with everyone and just fit in. I don't remember any problems with scratching or anything like that, maybe she "got it out of her system" outside but she had favorite areas where she would hang out all day it seemed. She was kind of like a harlequin around the house and was a pleasant surprise when she showed up. Never showed any aggression or violence and was a pleasant and affectionate visitor wherever she happened to be. Really a wonderful presence. At that time everybody was going indifferent directions except Mom who remarked that Princess would be around her during her daily business around the house and would particularly watch her in the kitchen from the garden wall while she did cleaning or preparing dinner. Princess was a wonderful being to be around. We all miss her.

If you value your furniture above a cat, don't get a cat. Here in the UK declawing is (thankfully) illegal. I have 9 cats, 8 of them rescues. They have cat trees, scratching posts all over the house but some of them still prefer my sofa. That's OK. The sofa will wear out or I'll get fed up with it anyway. My cats are far more important. While I was watching the video Kira was on my lap, purring her head off and making biscuits. I got her at 8 months old as a foster. She had been horribly neglected by her uncaring, cruel owners who surrendered her because they were going to be visited by the RSPCA who'd visited them before and were following up the case. Poor Kira (the name I gave her) was grossly underweight, full of cat 'flu, fleas, worms and not spayed, also worrying was she had no strength in her back legs. We came to the conclusion she'd been confined in a very small space, like a cat carrier for long periods of time. She was terrified of us too and would hiss but never lash out when we passed her. We got her microchipped under anaesthetic. You've guessed it, we adopted her. The turning point came when I bought her a pretty pink polka dot collar, complete with bow on impulse. I showed it to her. I will never forget how she looked up into my face with an expression that said "That's for me?" and put her head forward to I could put it on. I have a beautiful photograph of her sitting so proud. She's a black cat with the most gorgeous green eyes. She's super friendly and loving and I feel blessed to have her. Our latest rescue we are still working on. He was an unneutered Tom who our neighbour was feeding until he moved away. We took over feeding and eventually caught our boy, had his health issues sorted by our vet, had him neutered and chipped and he too became part of our family. He is coming round in his own time, is learning to play but still hides when we have visitors until he decides they're not a threat. Our vet said he was very young, no more than 3 years old. I dread to think what would have happened to him if we hadn't caught him. He's also a stunningly beautiful black cat. He's usually to be found at night sleeping on the spare pillow above my head with a look of contentment and that makes me smile. All our cats, ages ranging from 19 years old to 4 years old are indoor cats. They are all so precious.

My cats have never scratched my furniture, as they use, and love their 8 poled " cat gymnasium", that has loads of tiered ledges, and hiding places. I'm always finding little "half moon" shedded claws round the place.

My discipline is a stern voice followed immediately by a positive "Good girl! Good girl!" when my cat turns back after heading someplace she shouldn't be. If she doesn't listen to my stern voice, I get a toy and distract her and say "Good girl! Good girl!" when she heads back to where she should be.

I learned to respect a cat’s boundaries. I got on the floor with a Tom cat and he rolled on his back with me. He was a really cool Tom Cat. The family got a new house and moved away. I feed stray cats in the garage they moved in. These cats roam all over the town. I prefer outdoor cats because they play with the birds. 😻😻😻😻😻😻❤️ Miaow.

Number 10, when a wanted to make friend with a cat that often spends time in my garden under shrubs, I let a sick I had worn all day outside. I figured since it's all about scent, like dogs, it was worth a go.It has been a huge sucess, and just let them approach me, or not, without any sounds of movement. Now if they see me, they will run across the lawn and over to me. I'm new to experiencing positive time with a cat, as I was scratched as a child and have avoided them. Met a friendly cat, a year ago, then researched lots on you tube since, to understand their body language, to minimise chances of getting scratched again.

THINKING of Buying or Keeping a Cat? Before anyone keeps a cat they really need to understand the animals psychological makeup. They need to respect the cat's individual and unique characteristics. They need to spend time developing a bond and earning trust. A cat is not a baby human or a cuddly toy, it is a small predator, a beautiful and majestic creature with tremendous abilities and almost supernatural powers. To keep a cat is not to own it, but to care for it and to insure that it's specific needs are met. You will find that if the cat that you have chosen, choses you, you will have a friend and a companion for it's whole sensitive life!

I think you can overdo this list of yes and no stuff. Declawing is obviously horrible. But I've had over 27 cats in my life, and have had up to 10 at a time. I now have 6. From time to time I squirt or swat them, though usually because one of them is picking on another. And I yell. Often. They look at me like, "who died and made you king?" and mostly ignore me. Sometimes I roar and act like a monster trying to get them. They run, but not very fast or very far, and it is more like a game. And each one demands attention in one way or another, from jumping on my lap to sleeping on the bed or yowling for attention. All will eventually come to me with their tail up if I call their name enough.
@thunderchief7
@thunderchief7 Ай бұрын
Still, I don't pick them up. They do not like that. I don't normally hug or hold them. And it is important to get them used to touching their feet when they are kittens. I gently hold on their tails, but not so tightly they can't easily pull them free. They don't mind that. All of mine let me pet their bellies and don't react aggressively. And there is no hard play. If something makes them panic and use teeth and claws, I holler. They look at me like, "oh, what did I do?" and let go. Never respond to that with force.

Declawing an indoor/outdoor cat would be like sending a hunter into the forest with the first knuckle of their fingers and toes removed without a rifle and expect them to take down a deer. Good luck on that. Buy a scratching post or have some trees around they can scratch outdoors. I've had cats my whole life and, yes, they will scratch furniture but it's not that big of a deal. Furniture has to be replaced anyway just from human use too.

To this day, years later, she refuses to stay on the stairs with me if the door up top is closed.

My Boys sere brothers. I got them at 9 weeks. Too young to not love and be happy. Quirky, indepenxant and totally devoted. About a year go, Smokey took to hiding in cabinets. I made all of the cat proof but he got into one at every opportunity. He stopped abd camd back to my lap, a good thing. About 4 months ago I found a ball shaped growth in Big Smokey' throat. Just the feel was terrifying. I wasn't sure whst was wrong with Shay-Shay but sometbing was. He wasnt playing. He was a nut about catnip but he no longer really enjoying it. I talked to Vet bc taking them in a carrier anywhere was impossible. You know the verdict, cancer. Perhaps if this had been my 1st cats Id have donr fifferently. But they were not that, nor likely last. I've has cats for 72 years, many of them. I was fortunate my grandaughter's friend is a Vet. She came to me and , confirmed both diagnosis, cancer and a bad heart condition, she helped them depart for the Rainbow Bridge.. I believe, after almost 3 months their spirits are still around me. Cats are funny.. They don't all stay but the ones who do let you know. I still cry almost every day. I knoe they are better off but I miss them terriy. After 18 years, my house is terriblg empty. I know now, i will get another. I realy want siblings and young. What hlds me back is. at 80 whose gets them if I cant take care if them. With aged cats, I always .thought they would go with me. Obviously, I didnt ask God. He plans while we are thinking we should. I know the feelng of losing your 1st. We've list manh animals in past few years. Tge answer to why is thry age as we do. When you live them as companions abd family, theyu live long. My daughter's horse dued 2 yrs ago at 27. She had expectex t have him for another 5 to 10 years. The remains of their presence in our lives is love. I will find another and, hopefully, we can be together for another 18 years. God willing. If not, I still thank Him and all my 4-foot loves for being wonderful companions for my life.. Keep loving and it will be returned in a millions ways. God bless your tender heart.

I had adopted a young cat and a couple of months later, I decided to adopt another one for company. This new cat was a little kitten 3 months old. I introduced the 2 very gradually but it didn't work out very well at all. In fact the first adopted cat was very agressive towards the kitten and I was very unsure whether I could keep the poor little kitten. I called the lady of the Animal Protection Society from whom I had adopted both cats to find a solution. She solved the problem very easily : catch the urine from the older cat and rub it over the body of the new cat. That worked perfectly - the older cat recognised the kitten as part of his family and peace came back between the two. If you are having the same problem, try this !!!!
