people have this all wrong. It was spelled Super-man. It was by the same people but the character was not an alien, with those powers, or looked anything like that. So it's hard to say it's the same. Or even a version or prototype of Superman. He wasn't a mad scientist either. He wasn't a scientist at all. The story involves a mad scientist. We don't even get a description so he wasn't the inspiration for luthor who started with hair and ruled a country or something. People say that because of the image at the beginning of the story. To explain: This Super-Man is neither a supervillain or hero. It's a pure SF story. It's starts with a mad scientist that's trying to buy off bums from an aid line(wheatever their called). He pays him to be a guinea pig. The experiment works like in flowers for algernon. It's been awhile since I read but he had telepathic powers or some such and kills the man that made it. The guy had a heighten awareness or intellect from it and he planned to use it but the formula faded before long. I really barely remember it but the gist is that. Now luthor originally had none of those qualities and none had the powers this guy has. Luthor was a red haired guy, I don't know his origin personally, I never read it but he might have ruled osme country. Now Ultra humanite was an evil scientist. But the Super-man was not. Luthor eventuall absorbed Ultra's traits because he was depicted without hair in one panel or something. The known prototypes for superman go something like this: Hercules[Maybe], Samson[Maybe], Circus strong men[design], The Phantom[design] Doc Savage[there are similarities], Gladiator[a novel with someone that is described with the exact same powers as superman that I read and it's decent enough], and the real comic book prototype is Doctor Occult in his alternate form[doc occult is like mandrake, who is made by the same guy as the phantom]. Made by the same people, using a cape, flying around, very superheroish. the story is called the reign of the Superman/Super-Man. So all Superman gets from that is the name. edit:I shoudl add that I had read before that they already had the superman character by the time they made doctor Occult and just no one was buying it. But I don't know. I've also heard, but this might really not be true, that the original was a normal person with normal strength like the Atom, and not super powered.

The thing is that Superman went out fine without one for almost 70 years, so for many it came across as just DC trying to make him "kewl", didn't help by how they promoted the whole New 52 Superline back in 2011. About why the costumed doesn't get shred, simple, Bio-Aura Post-Crisis wise, indestrutible material Pre-Crisis, so yeah he doesn't really need one.

Actually, his Pre Crisis suit was as indestructible as he was (as it was Kryptonian material), Post-Crisis is was said his body had a protective aura that protected everything but his cape. That said just because someone doesn't NEED armor doesn't preclude wearing armor because they want to, such as to honor his people. The U.S. Army doesn't normally use swords but they carry them sometimes for ceremonies.

Old School up until after Lois& Clark Superman's Body emitted a field a few centimeters off his skin that made himself resistant to damage as well as his outfit. That is why normal combat doesn't harm his cloths. Up untiI the New Supergirl TV show they let on that it is cloth from their home world that is way more durable. Also superman doesn't fly...Thought everyone knows that. No amount of airplane physics or the like will make this a thing. He manipulates Gravitational field around his body. That is also how he does some of those feats of strength you see. Like the clip where he stops the plane from crashing nose down. You can see the field change fly up the plane. Normal even if he could "Fly" and his normal super strength would have flatten the poor plane. There are a few Supers that do fly like storm or The Human Torch. Another example is in the movie where he goes to Lois and tells her to grab his hand and they "Fly". The Only other Hero type I can think of like Superman, Supergirl and the like that don't "fly" but travel through the air is the Silver Surfer.

He didn't have that ability in the comics until his first animated serial, when the animators gave him flying abilities in order to make him a bit more exciting. After that, he got to fly in the comics, giving his cape something to actually do besides look good.

The ability to 'leap tall buildings in a single bound' limited this "God". He jumps to his next next location then notices someone getting mugged while in the air. By the time he lands, re-aims then jumps back to where the crime was the criminal is long gone and the victim is dead. One reason I never liked Superman is he isn't. Me may be male but he's also an illegal Alien with unlimited powers and virtually no weaknesses. His comics should last until someone screams for help.

That era where Superman would just get whatever power they felt like at any time, for no reason. I recall in an early issue, Clark Kent being in a work meeting, hearing an emergency with his super hearing, and needing to leave. He created a distraction by throwing his voice with super ventriloquism, everyone looked out the window, to see what the commotion was, and when they returned to the meeting, Clark was gone. They were all wondering where he'd went. He created a distraction using super ventriloquism to leave a work meeting with his co-workers thinking he was an asshole for bailing unannounced, instead of just saying "I'm sorry guys, I have to leave for another engagement." There was an era of Superman comics that this sort of thing happened all the time.

Brago The power of Kryptonite is not exactly stated it is exactly up to the writers how strong it is. It can either be something that is like a cold making him feel like he stubbed hid toe, it's annoying it will hurt for a second but it won't bother him. Or its something that if he even smells it, it acts like stage 50 cancer and gives him every disease known to man (which is lazy writing). So in a simpler term it's a way for writers to escape out of a hole they dug themselves into. Frankly it's a terrible part of DC comics writing

the truth is. Kryptonite doesn't stop Superman from being able to use his powers, it just causes him so much pain that he can use his powers safely. for example he spent his whole life learning "okay, hit this hard if you need your opponent to go back this fair, hit this hard if you need them to go back further." when exposed to Kryptonite it hurts so bad he can't think clearly so instead of risking using his powers and potentially blowing up the moon. He has too get away so he can think. Personally I always thought Batman should use Blue K, it stops supermans powers from working but doesn't cause him any pain so they can talk it out.

At 1:50, that image of Superman hitting Green Lantern is taken from the 'Injustice' comics. Which has its main focus on Superman being a massive interstellar dick. And the Kryptonian biotech armour was more to protect his suit than it was to protect him. If he just wore normal spandex itd be blown off him in about 5 seconds in almost every fight he gets into. DC don't want people to 'forget' about Superman and Lois, they just took a different direction with the character, its not that big a deal. Doomsday was given a motive for killing Superman, though it was handled badly in the original story and only got properly developed later on. DC also don't want people to 'forget' about the underwear design, they just redesigned him to be less silly and more in line with modern culture, and the style they were trying to convey. Character designs change all the time, its not necessarily to try and distance themselves from the previous design.

Connor Kent/Kon-El was part of the New 52 and member of the Teen Titans and was briefly replaced by Jon Lane Kent not the current Jon who is Pre-New 52 Lois and Clark's Son, but a teen from an alternate timeline and son of Lois and Clark raised by the villain known as Harvest. Connor eventually came back and is currently MIA. I have no clue where he or the other members of his Titans are Wonder Girl is also MIA. Red Robin/Tim Drake is believed dead and in reality kidnapped by Mr. Oz who might be Ozymandias from Watchmen. The current Titans are Nightwing, Troia, Arsenal, Tempest/Garth, and Caucasian Wally and Teen Titans are Damian Wayne, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, African-American Wally West (White Wally's Cousin), and Aqualad/Jackso Hyde is joining.

The period of time the Superman of the main continuity spent as Superboy was. However you are also right as I remember John Byrne finding a convoluted way to keep a Superboy for the Legion of Super Heroes around by having the Time Trapper seize a moment fo time and create a pocket universe. That eventually got wiped out as I remember and led to Superman having to act as judge, jury and executioner with regards to the three Kyrptionian criminals who were in large part responsible for that.

Other things that they probably wouldn't like people to know about Superman- He used to not be able to fly but could only jump a few blocks. He once could reshape his face like clay to look like other people. He one time was able to create tiny duplicates of himself which emerged from his hand. Kryptonite wasn't introduced in the comics but instead on a radio show and then a few years later returned in the comics to become a mainstay of his description.

Beg your pardon but no, Superman does NOT need armour. His invulnerability is due to a bio-electric field his body generates. This field extends several millimetres from his skin so it also protects his clothes from damage, as long as said clothes are form-fitting which his costume is. So once again, he does not need armour as his clothing already has more than enough protection.

I must be the only one who likes Superman Returns. it was a genuine attempt at having the world move on from Superman without having to kill him off. It was a bit of a soft reboot that just never got the love it deserved, but it has some very iconic moments that don't deserve to be ignored.
