I read an issue in the late 80s or early 90s, in which Batman openly confronted Joker about coming back every time Batman thought he was dead. The Joker told Batman he was actually part of a worldwide crime syndicate that assigned personalities to various areas to run all of their operations. The Joker's personality was assigned to Gotham, and he wasn't really the same Joker that had been killed, before. Personally, I like to believe even the Joker doesn't fully understand why he always comes back, but made up the story about a worldwide crime syndicate because he knows Batman would spend hundreds, maybe thousands of hours, and millions of dollars researching the Joker's fiction.
@gothamknight97227 жыл бұрын

Oh for fuck's sake people, for the last time *Joker did not rape Barabra*. He strips her clothes off so he can take pictures of her bleeding in pain, so he can torment Gordon with them later. Any sexual implication comes from the reader, not the story itself. And for two more logical reason 1 *Joker is beyond sex*, it's true, Joker has never shown any explicated lust or depraved actions towards women (Expect Jack Nicholson's portrayal with Vickie Vale). Hell he contentiously denies Harley Quinn sex as he sees her more as tool he can manipulate and fashion to his twisted ways, not someone he genuinely cares about or wants to sleep with. The one person, who the Joker would rape *is Batman* as he is the Ying to his Yang and whatnot, he is attracted to Batman and no one else. 2 *Barbara would've died*, She had a bullet explode though her abdomen and split her spin and is left bleeding on the floor. At the hospital Bullock tells Batman, Barbra's yoga partner was found in a state of undress with a camera lens on the floor. Barabra's twisted photo shoot would've taken minute at tops, considering she was found before she died of blood loss. There's is literally no time for forced intercourse *and* picture taking, by the time Joker would finished violating her she defiantly would've bleed out. Plus Barbra (in all comics) only hates the Joker for crippling her, and doesn't ever talk about any supposed sexual assault. And in any of the flash backs or conversations with the Joker. God the internet is sick.

vollsticks I will read the comic if I get a chance. And I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm being a dick, but I correct you when you say "adaptation". The movie and book it's based on are two completely separate entities from the comic. The name is just an allusion.

I'd just like to give my opinion on this subject, which may be unpopular, but... I personally think that Jared Leto did a good job as joker. I enjoyed his work, and I feel that the main reason his adaptation is hated on is because suicide squad was disappointing, and not for anything he did or didn't do. A lot of his scenes were cut from the theatrical release, and so we never got to see his adaptations true potential. Had Leto's joker been significant to the plot of the movie, I think he'd be accepted in the line of great jokers. Now this is just my opinion, maybe he wasn't that great, maybe he didn't do that role justice, but for me, I thought he did good, and hopefully in the future he'll get a chance to truly show whether or not he's a great joker by being given a more significant role in Ben Afleck's Batman movie.
@kHeller1817 жыл бұрын
I agree that he did a good job as Mr. J but, the problem doesn't stem from the film being disappointing ( not agreeing or disagreeing on that) the problem is with Jared Leto. He could have been the perfect clown but, in the end he had to pull his "artistic" bs and completely ruin it.
@angianyi7 жыл бұрын
kHeller181 sorry I didn't quite understand your position on Jared' joker. Anyways I think his joker is fine as Long as those weird purring moments are cut down and they show more of the clown and insane side because right now he is mostly just a gangster whose skin was bleached white

Jack Curran It's fine don't be afraid to voice your opinion
@kHeller1817 жыл бұрын
angianyi Sorry let me be more clear; Leto's artistic vision of the joker overshadowed his performance. Meaning, his idea to have him covered in tattoos and having fake grills is all anyone pays attention too, not his actually performance. Instead of just playing the Joker he had to add to it with his own twist, that in my mind (and a lot of other fans) ruined it. Does that make sense?
@MysteriousTomJenkins7 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the movie and still don't like this version of the Joker. To me, he (the character itself) looked like someone badly trying to act like the Joker than the Joker himself, I can't imagine this guy being Batman's main villain, someone who'd give him any trouble, he looks like a guy Batman would just beat down in one punch and call it a night. I am not saying anyone who likes this portrayl is wrong because its all just opinions but in mine, at best he looks like a minion of the Joker, but I can't see him as the Joker himself. Also, I am seeing possible replies to my comment, I haven't really watched much of the Dark Knight trilogy so I am not saying this because I hated SS nor because I am a Heath Ledger fanboy, I am simply saying this because its what I think.

I'd say the Joker's portrayal in the DCAU (voiced by Mark Hamill) is the gold standard for Jokers, but to each their own. I will say Nicholson's Joker is great, but there are a few things about it I don't like. Namely, that they not only revealed his backstory, but also shoehorned it into Batman's as well, making him the guy who killed his parents. That was dumb.

One of the cool thing about comic book stories is the alternate continuities, basically science fiction with many coexisting universes with many different versions of characters, events and stories...only expanded upon when they cross over to create new ones...which also can cross over. So all of his backstories, events, deaths, origins and consequences can all be cannon in their respective reality bubbles.

The first backstory I heard was the one that stuck with me, and the one I think makes for the most interesting stories; that he was a regular criminal, then he fell into a batch of chemicals (that made him into the Joker) while being busted by Batman; but even earlier, he was the same mugger that shot Batman's parents. Which leads to Joker eventually revealing to Batman that Batman created him, but then later after lots of investigation, Batman reveals to the Joker he created him first.

A few things Adam: 1) He was a ruthless killer from 1940 to 1948, became a fop in the Silver Age and in 1973 became a killer again with Batman #251 "The Joker's Five Way Revenge" by O'Neil and Adam's and solidified by Miller in TDKR. 2) It is not "implicitly" shown that Joker raped Barbra in The Killing Joke, he merely stripped her and took pictures. 3) Your obfuscation of times Joker "died" is quite humourus as you fail to mention that most of those deaths occur in parallel universes. 4) The Bronze Age Duela Dent was shown to be The Jokester's and Three-Face's biological daughter from Earth Three (where heroes are the Villains and visa versa). 5) The Joker series back in the mid 1970s failed due to the Comics Code stating that the villain could not "win" and had to be in jail at the end of a story, thus leading to dull stories where you knew what was going to happen at the end of each issue.

Bryan Byrne yep, castle,the punisher makes an appearance and is really going to kill the joker but batman swoops in and stops Castle before telling the joker to run for his life and in this case he does. And does so seriously without those little HA HA HA things following him whilst he escapes. proving that in this situation the joker was genuinely scared and even had that smile wiped off his face, looking close to TEARS as well.
@TimedRevolver7 жыл бұрын
To be fair, a LOT of heavy hitters in Marvel have shit themselves in terror finding out the Punisher was after them. If someone who can dodge bullets fears him, a guy who looks like a clown and has no powers has every right to be scared.
@MysteriousTomJenkins7 жыл бұрын
Personally, with how I view the Joker, I think that reaction is fitting. To me, the Joker sees himself as some kind of sadistic showman, his crimes are simply acts to him which is why he doesn't really do anything for personal gain and more so just because he feels like doing it. He feels like poisoning Gotham with his blood, fucking with Superman, taking over Las Vegas with a super powered gang, etc. For him (just my take on him), he has two things he actually fears, people learning who he truly is and being killed in such a mundane way. If people find out who he really is (in real life and comics), then he can be understood, his actions and why he is who he is and that breaks his character as this enigmatic psycho who no one can crack. He also likes to be dramatic, entertaining and shocking so if he were to die by some nutjob wearing a skull shirt with guns instead of say, turning Superman insane and making him put his fist through his chest (like Injustice) or getting Batman to snap and kill him, then his legacy will just be that he got shot to death, not breaking a great hero and/or fucking the world beyond repair. Punisher doesn't give a shit about second chances, he'd kill the Joker the first chance he got, he wouldn't play games like Batman, send him to a place he can easily break free to continue his perfomance, he'd end it there, in a normal, mundane way with the Joker dying to someone who already kills people so Joker would just be one bad guy on a big list of names Frank has killed, that doesn't seem like the way Joker would want to go.
@Bluesit327 жыл бұрын
MysteriousTomJenkins Exactly. Joker isn't afraid to die, he's afraid to die in a common fashion. Killed by the Punisher is extremely common. Small time crooks get whacked by him all the time. The only one who would be really remembered is the Punisher himself. Joker would just be his claim to fame.

Concerning Harlequin (Duela Dent), they finally explained her origin post Infinite Crisis. It turned out she was from Earth 3 (an Earth where the heroes of the regular DC universe are villains and the villains are the heroes) and is the daughter of The Jokester and Three Face (Eveline Dent). She ended up in the regular DC Universe and it scrambled her mind a bit, resulting in her thinking that many of Batman's foes were her parents. Shortly before her death she was reunited with her mother and father but she had a falling out when The Jokester thought she had betrayed him (she brought Talon [the Earth 3 version of Robin] to meet her parents which revealed their location to Owlman [The Earth 3 version of Batman]) and told her to leave. Soon after, she was killed at the beginning of the search for Ray Palmer.

jokers daughter or i guess everyones daughter that is actually 2 face daughter was on the comic suicide squad... also the joker was a bad comedian that had a pregnant wife he went to do a crime to get 2000 dolars to feed his family and well before he was going to his wife and unborn child died testing a baby bottle then they gave him the redhood so if anything went wrong he would he caught so the backstory that he was a comedian is part of the redhood and thats the more credible one since theres an animated movie called under the redhood i love talking about comics and stuff like that
@LillyCharlotte77 жыл бұрын
Animated (or live action for that matter) doesn't even close to make certain things more credible to what "really" happened. I do however thinks THe Killing Joke holds more weight because of the 50's origin... but like Joker said: "I prefer multiple choice.!" :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

DC actually did acknowledge that Joker was inspired by "The Man Who Laughs," at least in animated form. @JudeMarchisio7 жыл бұрын
Daniel 1 Here comes another butt hurt Leto fan. Haha. So if the two are incomparable then what makes him a joker. The source material defines the role. The writers are given some creative freedom but the character has to fundamentally stay true to his roots. Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger gave it their own spin but stayed true to classic joker. Leto on the other hand was over the top and his stupid stunts like the packages he sent his colleagues didn't help(do you work for him? You sound like you do) If you can't understand that you're just a special kind of dumbass. And I've worked in the film industry, it seems the only thing going for you is you went to school to write asinine comments on the Internet when people have a different opinion from yours. Haha. No wonder you're called Daniel. Haha. Oh goodness!

Jared Leto's Awful Performance (I think this is better to forget that instead of The Killing Joke ending, cause I'm a huge fan of The Killing Joke) 2. Same put as your list (You didn't mentioned that Batman's Costume is a ripoff of this german film and character called The Bat directed by Roland West) 1. Same put as your list

I think it would have been interesting to do a Batman movie where you see the creation of the Joker, several times. Essentially, you get most of the backstories played out by different characters, each coming to that pivotal moment of becoming the Joker. One as the Red Hood who falls into the vat of chemicals, one that makes a new twist and has a sort of mind-swap take (So you can wonder which one is the character who *might* be him out of two and one that embraces the Ledger take on it being a young kid. Yet they never tell you which one is the Joker. Maybe they're all the same person? Maybe none of them are the Joker? Maybe there are three seperate Jokers? Just a fun way to fuck with expectations and preserve the ever confusing but interesting thing with the Joker, while exploring potential motivations and backstories.
