Penguin has always been overrated, in my opinion. He was looked upon for decades as second only to the Joker, and yet you really have to reinvent him to make him interesting. Unless you make him a freak of nature or something, he's just a fat guy in a tuxedo with trick umbrellas.
@jamesoblivion6 жыл бұрын
Not sure on the others, but I read the Joker's Asylum issue. Largely about how Penguin was "picked on for being different," which makes it a freak Penguin story. It's an okay book, not great, but TOTALLY a freak Penguin story. That's not who the Penguin was for the first 50 years of his existence.
@juanreynaldo10416 жыл бұрын
So what..? Is a good Penguin story, that humanized him as a character and a villain. It doesn't matter if is not who he used to be 50 years ago.. times changes, and comic book characters too. Go and read the rest anyway..
@jamesoblivion6 жыл бұрын
Purple Man I'm not sure why you're arguing with me when you seem to agree that only by drastically changing the character has he ever become interesting. I'm talking about the fact that the Penguin had a reputation for being in the upper echelon of Batman's rogues gallery for decades, without really meriting such high placement, and that the only way to make him interesting was to completely change who he was. You seem to be taking me to task by agreeing with me?
@MrCJBubba7 жыл бұрын
what do you mean DC wants us to forget that he is a master of Judo that sounds badass as hell. now I really want him in Injustice a Judo grappler skilled in Ninjitsu with Aerial Bird supports and Umbrella guns/swords. he would be unique as hell being a mix of Zoning and close Combat similar to Peacock from Skullgirls
@peytonwooley23327 жыл бұрын
Robin Taylor Lord (gotham's tv series penguin) is the best, (and we all know it dont deny it) he was manipulative, more intelligent/clever, and loved that they make him more emotional, his character to me is better then danny devitos by a long shot (who cares if its not as accurate) and personally LOVE they change in sexuality. Prefer him for males (to me i think it fits better, despite against the comics) over being a womanizer prevert. Innocent shy virgin thing is soooo cute it traps u in there spell (just like a penguin) Also to all the ppl that are only hating this penguin cause hes gay, get over urself..who cares?! Knock off with the homophobia, no one got all mad when barbara was bi sexual? And making out with girls?A sexuality change in a character isnt gonna effect the show and in this case i think its a change for the better.
@juanreynaldo10417 жыл бұрын
Peyton Wooley You clearly have no idea about The Penguin character.. and yes, Robin Lord Taylor portrays an awesome prefomance of Oswald Cobblepot, but not the best one, read some comics before say something like that. Also.. Penguin isn't homosexual in Gotham, the actor himself said so, and explained it arguing that Oswald is a really sensible person, he just wanted affect, no matter who went from, a female friend or a male one. He just doesn't understand what love is, and he never will.. because he's The Penguin.
@peytonwooley23327 жыл бұрын
Mr. Cobblepot Ik hes not, ik his character is straight (in comics) im saying i think the comics SHOULD of been re written back in the 40s if he were gay instead. I prefer it that way. (for sexuality, even though hes a sociopath) The main reason they allowed penguin to be gay in the show becuz it made robins performance more comfortable (since hes gay in real life) I prefer the way he was portraited in gotham verison better then the others. I prefer this verison over danny devitos, and even burgess merediths (like most here too) its not accurate to the comics but who cares? If everything was 100% from the comics to the show why watch u will know what will happen lol. I do agree on some changes that make no sense that can confuse and possibly wreck the storyline annoyed me (like killing off victor fries's wife too early made no sense..) but certain changes are for the better from gotham show (keyword SOME, not all some were stupid will admit) changing up penguins character in gotham imo was better (even though inaccurate) lol this is just my opinion thats all i have to say.
@juanreynaldo10417 жыл бұрын
I have to agreed with you on all that last (most part) Gotham Penguin is an amazing version of the character, one of my favorites. And of course.. is way better that Tim Burton's Penguin (accurate too... yes, Danny DeVito portrayed a good villain, but that was not The Penguin) and Burgess Meredith's. I didn't like the whole thing of his "love" for The Riddler, and no.. i'm not homophobic, l just love this character and I like him how he is and the way he was writed, that's all. All these changes on characters already defined make me sick.
@peytonwooley23327 жыл бұрын
Mr. Cobblepot Lol agreed on some of ur stuff. Me im just not fond of devitos performance like i prefer burgess over him?! Thats saying something. Idk what it was just didnt care for him. Me i just shipper/freaky fangurl like 80% of the show watchers for the two nygmobblepot (no hard feelings if ur not) but yeah lil penguin is emotional confused, due to nygma filling the void after penguins moms death hes very vulerable. And was being his close best friend. (But tbh when u give someone a freaking love riddle to ur 'best friend' that was pretty gay haha i think anyone would get mixed messages there) but anyway overrall i do understand some of ur points as well lol just we have different opinions. ☺

That stock market storyline has another even bigger issue. If the Penguin actually is a financial genius who can make lots of money just by speculating in stock, there is literally no reason for the character to commit crime anymore. Penguin is driven by the wish to make a lot of money - so if he has a legal way to do so no problem, why risking that for another one that is way riskier and involves possibly getting beat up by Batman.

@TwistedChungus6 жыл бұрын
#10. He was originally part of Jason Todd's Pre-Crisis origin, which was basically a copy/paste of Richard Grayson's. #9. He was a friend to homeless people, and considered reforming, until Batman fucked that up. #8. Bane broke both his arms during the buildup to Knightfall, and then broke an arm again during it. Point is, he got the shit kicked out of him, as part of the Worf Effect. #7. The only time he's actually looked remotely like a full-on crocodile in the main DCU (1938-2011) comics [stuff like a tail and that] was during _Batman: Hush_, when he was infected with a virus. #6. He used to be pretty smart. Not on Mr. Freeze / Rā's al Ghūl / Bane / Joker levels, but still smarter than the dumb brute he is now. #5. He was never a part of the Suicide Squad, before the movie came out. #4. He once worked with Two-Face, Commisioner Gordon, and Alfred to take on a vampire Batman. [Batman: Crimson Mist] #3. He was once fused with Silas Burr / Cyber, as part of the DC / Marvel crossover, the 'Amalgam' universe. #2. The _Flashpoint_ Batman put a machete through his head. #1. *Extremely* broadly speaking, the idea of a lizard guy from Florida with violent tendencies was done by Marvel first. Waylon Jones / Killer Croc: _Detective Comics_ #523, Feb. 1983. Curt Connors / The Lizard: _The Amazing Spider-Man_ #6, Nov. 1963.
