I think Volvo nailed it as a daily commuter.

Is it fair to complain about something a car wasn't built for? Here you praise the compact dimensions of the EX30, but in another video you criticize the lack of space in the rear seats. Doesn't one exclude the other? Certainly, the Smart #1 has a clever solution with its movable rear seats, one would think. But plenty of legroom is primarily important for long journeys. And on long journeys you usually take a lot of luggage with you. And now comes the question of where to put the luggage if the storage space has been reduced by the pushed-back rear seats. "You can't eat your cake and have it too." Another example: the ID.3 is known for its ample luggage space. Why is this not possible in the EX30? Not because the engineers are incompetent. The reason is that the ID.3 is not an SUV by design. This means that the ID.3 can have a short hood because it is not bound by the design specifications of an SUV, and therefore has more space at the rear. Wouldn't it therefore be more objective to evaluate a car for what it is intended for? Furthermore, in the case of the EX30, the target group are probably not families or long-distance travelers. That's likely why a rear armrest in the middle is not necessary. Incidentally, I have a V60 with an armrest. But it was hardly ever used by our passengers on long journeys. Why provide something that is potentially hardly ever used in a small car? What I find difficult in many car tests is that people complain about something without asking themselves what reasons might have led to a feature not being there. It's often the specifications and goals associated with a car that led to certain decisions. It would be nice if such factors were considered more often.

Completely agree ! We are 60 + , so with .2. Ca 300 km range minimal is ok! ( in wintertijd less km's, so 200 a 250 km range, no problem! Summertime: we occasionally travel , with lots of luggace and the backseat flat! We ordered for the EX 30 single engine extended range. What do We need? Minimal 250 km range, adaptieve cruisecontrol, navigation, comfortable seats, fine and relaible driving. We don't need: glass roof, heated seats and steeringwheel, tinted rearglass, electric opening bootlid, midsection armrest, head up display . The central display is bright and clear in terms of lay-out. So yes the car is not suiteable for families, but certainly for 2 persons ( passibly with small kids) Testing is very useful, because these are certain areas for improvement, such as consumption, and switching off functions when using a towbar plug! The steeringwheel buttons are already been improved, so keep it up! Johan from Holland ( waithing for delivery in October, with " hopefully" many good updates!)

💯agree. This is where reviewers like this go wrong. His videos are a series of contradictions while seeking click-bait titles.

Thanks for your comment! Hope my answer will give you better insight. The car has five seats, so it is only reasonable to expect it can seat four adults. Unless Volvo explicitly say it was not built for adults in the rear, why would I not complain about the lack of rear leg room? Especially when other small cars in this class offer much better leg room. I cannot make exceptions or excuses because "you" don't think it was built for adults in the rear. How I am supposed to know what your thoughts are before I upload this video when I don't even know who you are? Yes a compact exterior is a positive, and small rear seat is a negative. As I just explained, the competition also offers small exterior dimensions with bigger rear seats. But even if that wasn't the case, a small rear seat is always a negative independent of the exterior dimensions and vice versa. One does not exclude the other. Here's another example: A car car be sporty, but with a hard ride. It being sporty is in many cases the reason it may have a hard ride. But the sporty drive is still a positive and the hard ride is still a negative, one does not exclude the other. Especially because we have cars that offer both sport drives with a comfortable ride. I never once have talked about the boot in this being small or big, because frankly I think it is the least important for being buying a car in this class. So that is a strawman fallacy. In this type of vehicle an SUV is basically just marketing jargon. Only difference between this and ID.3 is the height because the ground clearance is higher. Other than that there are no technical specifications that make this more or less of an SUV than the ID.3. The longer hood is purely for aesthetics, which is why I think it looks great. But on the flip side, Volvo engineers have chosen to compromise interior room for better aesthetics, which is fine. The result is a car that will be critiqued for a small rear seat, but also praised for great looks. Like the examples above, one does not exclude the other. I think most car reviewers do ask ask you say "themselves what reasons might have led to a feature not being there. It's often the specifications and goals associated with a car that led to certain decisions". Most of us do this for a living and have done for several years. And there is so much more that happens of camera that you guys never see or hear about. Things that only is who do this experience. We can't document everything and talk about every thing that happens all the time, so we instead try to focus on what we find important. For me and to most of you it is not important why Volvo may have chosen to make the car beautiful rather than more practical. The why and who isn't important, the what is. And in my videos I try to focus on the what and not the why. You have to understand that we actually do get to spend time with the people who make these cars. The teams and engineers who are responsable for the product, and we often do get to ask the hard and obvious questions. And some times there really isn't any reason or though for doing one thing rather than the other. At the end of the day my channel is often more subjective than objective. These videos are mostly my opinion, and I always preface that at the beginning of each of these opinion pieces. I also do pure objective testing like range tests, long trip tests and charging test, so I feel my content is as a whole very balanced. Hope this helps you understand more of the content here! Have a nice day :)

Thank you very much for your detailed answer! As a scientist, I ask in particular why? I immediately wondered: where has the legroom gone since the dimensions are identical to other cars of the same class? When you look at the ID.3, the first thing you notice is the difference in geometry. Certainly, the SUV-label is a marketing aspect. The body is raised accordingly. But it also shows which people are being addressed. But more importantly, the ID.3 makes more use of the space at the front due to a different shape. However, this is not compatible with an SUV-design. In other words, if you want the same exterior dimensions and a certain design style, you automatically compromise on space. A direct comparison with an SUV of the same size and its space would therefore be more objective. Unfortunately, this is where the scientist speaks again, who ultimately must compare similar things to be able to make a valid statement. You can complain that the banana is bent and not round like an apple. Neither the banana nor the apple is to blame, but the wrong question. In this sense, the long-distance test between the C40 and EX30 was a perfect example of an objective comparison. I found it very helpful. As a person interested in a particular car, I am interested in objective criteria. That's why subjective tests are of limited help. At most, they show me what your preferences are. It's nice to get to know you as a person, but it doesn't help me to decide whether a car might be of interest to me based on objective criteria. Of course, it's okay to express personal opinions, but a test should mainly be objective. That's why you list the various data from long-distance tests in an Excel spreadsheet. Both you and I want to be able to compare. I believe that this is also possible in other areas. Was the available space well utilized based on the given parameters? In this sense, depending on the car design and target group, even limited space in the rear can be considered okay. I would therefore encourage you to check to what extent your tests offer objective and comparable aspects. I think it would significantly enhance your tests. I am aware that your extensive tests are time-consuming. That's why it seems all the more important to me that the information provided goes beyond personal preferences and, above all, provides solid, objective facts. This would make better use of the time invested and give your channel a feature that not everyone has. All the best. @@KrisRifa

One thing to note is that Volvo is changing the buttons on the steering wheel on new models because of the cheap plastics. So it might be a good idea to wait for the change.

20 inch wheels on a car this small is just a waste. Makes it unnessary expensive and reduces range/comfort.
