It's almost a new year! Can you believe it? Today, I want to share with you 10 things I'm not buying in 2022. I've ever set no buy goals for them, or low buy goals. Minimalism has made me look at a lot of things differently, and has resulted in quite a few things I stopped buying. So let's talk about some of the things I don't buy anymore.
Of course, this list is very personal to me and my lifestyle. So no worries if you do enjoy buying some of these things! Feel free to make it your own, it's your minimalist journey. But if you want to start frugal living, or save money, then a no spend challenge can be very helpful at times. So I hope this video will inspire you with your own no buy challenge.
I'm also sharing how I did on my low buy for 2021.:) Enjoy the festive season, everyone!

Ah that was it, I was thinking already it sounded more hollow than normal, but we could hear you perfectly fine with the camera audio as well, so no problems there, these things happen. 🌿

Flowers is the best decoration to have for a MINIMALISTS. It is not a empty place you come home too but someone who is waiting and that is the flowers for to be taken care off... with watering and change them if they start to get too big. Because flowers are things alive which serve to clean the air and because they are alive they are actually a 'family member' for to bring joy when one see how they grow. the kitchen always should have herbs in the pots ready to use for fresh food with all the real aroma in it which gives health

I’m doing a no buy year for 2022. Replacement only. I got a lot of makeup last year and now that I know my best colors I’m slowly decluttering and doing replacement only. I have enough clothes and shoes but if my tennis shoes wear out I’ll replace them. I love my current plant collection but if one dies I’ll do replacement only. Feels great and saves mental energy and time from shopping to apply to other areas of life. I’m excited to be more hospitable this year and spend my time and money having people over and enjoying their company

I really like the idea of choosing categories like this to refrain from buying for 2022. It really makes me think about which areas are already "over stocked" or "fully stocked" in our home. I will be journaling about this and choosing my areas to not spend for 2022.

I'm new to you're channel and messages. I like you're videos. I've only watched two so far. I'll continue to watch others. You're videos have encouraged me to get to grips with around 8 XXXL Large Size Plastic storage cartons. Which have been filled to the rims, with 100's of Movie, TV, Rock Music etc etc memorabilia. Happy holidays and new year! Your videos are so kind and gently inspiring. Thank you! I made a major move this year, got rid of a lot of stuff, but also have been buying new things, especially to organize new, small, odd spaces. My goal for the year is to 1. Have a very low-buy January - only food when I run out of healthy choices from what is already in stock, and, 2. After that to purchase no more than one thing for the house each month. The challenge will be not making more purchases than necessary for my garden!

I love the idea of setting a limit or low buy on beauty products/makeup, especially since I'm not a big fan of those things to begin with. I recently downsized my collection to where I only own a compact powder and one brush, and so far, I find that this has been working for me. Thank you for sharing this list, Vera! 😊

Very inspiring video! I definitely don't want to buy any more notebooks. I have enough journals and blank notebooks to last me five years! I also want a low-buy on book purchases. Last year I wanted a zero-buy year to just read the books that I currently own, but then I ended up buying at least six books! My goal for 2022 is to buy no more than two books (I already pre-ordered one) I plan to actually read the ones I recently bought and use the library for any new releases that I'm interested in. For my wardrobe, I'm only going to use a quarterly wardrobe subscription that I have that sends me about five pieces every season and I can easily return the items I don't like. I want to organize all of my art supplies. I've been into collage-making lately and can relate about keeping all the pretty pieces of paper that I find! I'm going to keep them in one spot so I can locate my supplies easier! Have a wonderful holiday season!

I wish you a happy new year. You have been the single most inspiring person I have watched on KZbin in my journey towards minimalism. Last year was really my first year trying to become more frugal and minimalistic as I now live by myself. I have decluttered and I'm happy with my new home. And this year I am instigating a low by or no by january. My goal is to get out of debt. I live in Florida and I have a car and I have to travel quite a distance so I have to keep that but I am finding places where I can cut my budget down and live more simply. I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now, and really enjoy them! They’re calming and give me so many ideas for myself. I’ve struggled with clutter for so long and am sick of it! I’m on my way to minimalism, but I think it’ll be a while till I’m actually there. I started a very small crochet business, so I tend to buy a lot of yarn, but I always buy it with the intent of using it. Many crafters say they buy their items just because. To me that seems strange, but I guess it’s one good trait I have for the cluttered person that I am!😂 I plan on being more strict on myself to get my chores done, etc. and as for spending, I plan on spending as minimum as necessary for the month of January. I’ve never done a New Years resolution as I knew I’d never follow it, but this year, I’m sick of how I do things that I’ve decided I need a New Years resolution. Happy holidays Vera ! I’ll be moving into my first house next year (I’ve always been renting) so I’ll have to buy loads of items that I never owned before and furnish the whole place. I’m trying to set up no buy goals on things I own loads of, such as: > mugs > kitchen appliances > pots and pans > some clothing items (for example jeans, sweaters, fancy dresses etc) > shoes (might just need a pair of sandals if I travel to a warm country since I don’t own any currently) And I’ll be trying a low buy goal on skincare and only buy things I need without stocking up (which used to be a bad habit of mine). As always I find your videos extremely inspiring and love how cozy and spacious and luminous your home looks, I’m certainly taking that into consideration when I will be decorating and furnishing my own place - less is more.

Great video. I agree with you 100%. All of the things that challenge you, challenge me as well. I’m also a sucker for pottery. I’m far from a minimalist, but I want to be/stay organized, have a place for everything, and love all the things that I have. I have space to rotate items. I like so many styles and feel that I can’t commit to any particular decor. I do mix and match styles in a room, love organization, but not starkness. Therefore I surround myself with books, pottery, plants, fabrics and other things that add joy and warmth to my life. For everyone, the number of things we have is different.

I am keeping my journal much more simple in 2022. I do like the art bullet journaling but I only use it for very specific months or events. I’m in the same boat with clothes too. I’m simplifying my wardrobe this year as my weight loss continues but it’s tough to go buy clothes when I’ve only got 25 pounds to go. So no sugar and junk in the house here either. thanks for posting this topic. I have always been a shopaholic(in the usa) . 4 years ago, upon retirement, my husband and I moved to his hometown in italy. That forced me to totally unload a lifetime of possessions, some of them, very precious to me...terribly hard to do, as you can imagine. I don't speak Italian well enough to navigate the system here when it comes to home needs or repairs, updates, ect. And to top it off, we were here less than a year when my husband needed emergency heart surgery, and not with a great outcome...so now, I am a full time caregiver and in charge of maintaining a (way too big for 2 people) house, inside and out! When we arrived here, there was just the minimal basics, and lots of outdated, and in need of repair items. The house has been empty for 20 years, except for when visitors , like us, would come for a couple of weeks. There was a fridge, a washing machine, an oven and a tv......not much else except for a couple of tables, an old and very ugly living room set, and 2 very ugly old bedroom sets. We live off our social security, so its been a slow process of trying to make this house comfortable, functional, and generally a more pleasant place to live. I'm at the point now, where other than some major projects, like interior and exterior painting, some window replacements, and fencing in the property...just to name a few! I bought a bigger fridge, a water softener unit, vacuum cleaners, assorted kitchen appliances, a clothes dryer, a gas heater (for my my husband's room), new mattresses, bed linens, towels, a laptop, 2 smart tvs, a recliner for my husband. He sleeps on the lower level in his own space, since he has close access to his bathroom and a door to the outside. My room is on the third level, so I bought an electric mattress pad and blanket. it gets chilly here, and the house isn't heated. It's been a crazy, expense filled 4 years! But, I was also buying myself stuff on amazon. Things like make up...which I hardly wear at all anymore.....and cosmetics, little doodads that were really just a way to deal with my loneliness, missing my son and grandkids, and feeling as though I'm under house arrest due to the world's way of dealing with a "pandemic". Plus, it's hard..I'll be 70 this month, and have arthritis pretty significantly. We also have a small flock of chickens, and took in 2 stray puppies. I have some inside pet birds, 4 cockatiels and a few finches. I enjoy all of my animals, although a little labor intensive, and feeding and caring for them is an additional expense. I spend a lot of time with them, and feel like they are my friends here. Life is so much different here, and I know I've always used shopping as a way to feel better. Your posts are inspiring to me...maybe it's not too late to learn! Sorry this is so long, I guess I just felt chatty! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

For the past 2 months I've stopped buying take away coffee. I bought an aeropress which was inexpensive in comparison to other coffee makers and I make it at home. I worked out yesterday I've already saved 270 dollars (Australian). It was a habit I thought I could not break, but if I heat up milk and add it to the espresso coffee and put some froth on top I cant tell the difference between that and the lattes I used to buy. Plus I'm saving on the petrol to get to the cafe and the other incidental things I bought while out and about.

Hello and happy holidays! I too have been on a get healthy lifestyle journey and also said I would not get any new clothes until I am happy with my weight and health. However, just before Thanksgiving I nearly lost my slacks while shopping for groceries! So I got a few things on sale to get me through the winter and donated many items of clothing. What a happy feeling!

This year I'll continue my no/low buy of clothing, shoes, fast food, and decor. I hardly spent any money this year except for health like going to the dentist and for my dog's health before he passed away. I started saving this year and hope to continue that into next year. I decluttered my fb and IG accts. Best thing I have ever done lol. That keeps me from seeing millions of ads. I still have the accts but I have to login on my computer and it’s more of a pain so I get on fb maybe 2x a month 😆 Good for you on your low buy/no buy. I def want to try this again. Sometimes if I say no buy on clothes suddenly I see stuff I feel like I can’t live without so it actually seems better for me to call it a low buy. I didn’t focus much on it in 2021 but I don’t think I bought much clothing. I remember buying one shirt I thought I had to have. I think I bought that one in 2020. I still love the shirt but almost never wear it! Crazy!

Hi Vera~ Happy to see you doing good in the video~ I don't have any plan in 2022~ I have not been spending money on extra clothes, bags, cosmetics etc. that do not bring value to my life since lockdown. But I spent more on investing in myself, for example education, and things/stuff that are needed for learning new skill etc. It will add more things in my room of course, but I am happy to invest in something that will improve myself and others~

I actually just got rid of half of my clothing. I’m down to summer , winter casual and work clothes and pajamas. Even sorted and redid my underwear. I’m down to just two different sizes. I then sorted all my cosmetics / products , jewelry scarves purses shoes and medicine. As a working lawyer I had collected a lot of things. It’s down to the really nice things , a few new things and new swimsuits for working out. I donated larger and older clothing to a friend and collected lots of fun things in a box for my niece with a Sephora gift card. I simplified my room and sitting room and kitchen items . The basement has my China , crystal and a few collectibles and a tea set for future use. After refreshing everything including fresh makeup , I hope to break the shopping habit habit first and second quarter. We are planning on staying in because of covid most of January / February. Simplifying depends on your age as well. At 57 you accumulate a lot but downsizing helps. I do have individual streaming services but I haven’t been going to movies so that substitutes in. Your hair is lovely curly and the natural color will be great. I think your generation will be better about consuming goods and what they value. But I do have artwork and some jewelry purchases that as it turns out were good investments I’m planning on selling. Always invest in your continued education and training.

My no-buy is kitchen appliances, utensils, and cloth, including potholders and dish towels. I made potholders from fabric scraps and may make two more because they seem to be in the wash a lot. I don't buy make up anyway because I don't use it, except for facial moisturize which I already have enough of. Thanks for the encouragement to think about what not to buy. Lol. I had an audible groan of agreement regarding number 9! I love mugs too! I think I do a very good job at exercising restraint. I can only get it if I really really love it. I am going to consider a little makeover in the foyer in the house. I would love to have a new / different console table. Something a little more fresh. I would love to hear what your healthy snacks are. Healthy snacking is a challenge for me. My healthy snack is Nutella on grain bread. See, not to healthy really, but very satisfying.

Just a little hint for your coffee plants (the one you held into the camera): Single them or they'll die in time. Keep the prettiest ones and give the others to friends. I started the same way, now my plant has reached its limit of 2,55 m height and is carrying again lots of coffea cherries.

@@NinaW1n That's totally normal, the plant needs stability. And don't worry if the bark seems to peel off, that's also normal. Room temperature is fine, but mind the room's moisture, especially in the winter. When it's too dry the leafs get brown and might also come off.
