Studied microbiology when I was 37, I finished and now I am doing my masters degree at 41yo in a prestigious university in London. Do not give up! I also wanted to share my experience with people. Thank you so much for sharing Rebecca! Let's keep going, Life is just starting x

Thank you so much! I really really do appreciate this. I printed and filled out applications for 6 years in a row to go back to school and do medicine but was always worried that I had missed my time. I finally applied last year and deferred the acceptance because I still was unsure. I’m 28 now and I’m getting ready to leave this fall to pursue my dream. Thank you so much for this video!

Hiya I am a social worker that wants to become a doctor, at age 35 you have inspired me to want to pursue this goal, and one day become a psychiatrist, which has been a life long dream. It would be amazing as a mature aged student to study medicine, as mature aged I feel that we bring a unique set of lived experience within our healthcare system (by the way needs a major overhaul).

Hi Rebecca, I want to thank you for this video, I have recently decided to take the plunge at 38 to start my pathway to med school and I am so nervous. I have wanted this since I was 5 years old and for many reasons I didn't pursue it sooner, but I am now in a position, and supported enough to do it. I feel like the age thing is such a barrier but I also heard myself speaking with my 6 yo daughter recently about being able to do anything we put our minds to, and I want to be a good example to her. I have a little ways to go on my journey and I think I will be starting med school at about 40, and definitely ok with that. I have always wanted to serve my community this way, and I am finally taking strides in doing that. Thank you again, I look forward to listening to your other videos.

Hi there, just come across your channel! I'm 29, did a degree when I was younger and had a family since and more recently medical school has been constantly on my mind. I briefly considered it when I was younger but I think my immature mind thought nope not smart enough for that and now I'm more mature, thinking maybe I'm too old now and my time has passed! Your videos are really helpful and give me hope ❤️

Hey Rebecca. I’m 33 yo this month. I studied English in my former life and used to work in publishing. It was an incredible and fun time of life but eventually I yearned for something with more meaning. I fought really hard for years to be in medical school. Despite so many rejections I never lost hope and eventually I was accepted into a Med school in Italy. (English taught). It never occurred to me that it wouldn’t be the workload that would break me… but the social isolation im feeling here. Firstly being in a foreign language country and secondly being a mature student. I’ve tried really, really hard to create a more open and caring environment within my class but I’m just done now. Giving up on trying with them. They don’t treat me as if I belong here and barely speak to me or give any help when I ask for it. It’s a totally different experience to my first time at university which was so much fun. I assumed it was the medical student mentality that everyone seems to be in it for themselves. But maybe that’s just the case at my university, or it’s unique to me. Either way, it’s made this long and hard journey into medicine (at my age) only that much harder. Really battling with the social side of it personally.

I graduated in biomedical science in my 40's. I also thought akward with the younger students, but that changed quickly. I always askes myself, why are you here? For them or yourself? I am also weak in my writung work lol. I am actually thinking about to go into medicine. Yes it it vert important to listen. I recorded many lessons, but you need to ask the lecturers first as some don't like it. I printed the lecture slides out and added notes on it. Like you said the first year ist mostly to find out what works.

Dear Rebecca, I am so proud of your achievement. My childhood dream was medicine but due to many issues and circumstances, I gave up. Now I am 37 and randomly watched your video. Your story has given me new hope. I am looking at doing either Dip of nursing and try entering the undergrad med or become an RN and try the grad entry program. My situation is a little tricky because I have a young child and it is expensive to find care and my husbands job is not too flexible. I trust God will help me start this journey. Just a quick question, did you find the content at med school hard to grasp? I wasn't good in math and did accounts subject for HSC. I feel anxious that I will not be able to understand the complex things thought at med school and fail Any advice on that?

I'm an ex-nurse from Canada. In North America, we have an expression "Nurses eat their young" to describe the nurse-on-nurse abuse that is the real cause of the nursing shortage here. But if you "Google" it, know that the results don't even scratch the surface. At the same time, nurses are going online to document the fact that most of the courses in their programs are what we call "fluff" courses. For example, I wondered why we were getting so many "self-assessment" assignments. Then it was revealed that you can't fail self-assessment, but you can be charged tuition for it. Then there's the rampant problem of nurses working under the influence due to substance abuse problems. There was a student that was stoned every day of my nursing program; and I eventually found out that every single student in my nursing class (except me) was faking their BP numbers. I'm sure nurses are much better educated in the UK, and that it's always a good idea to be humble. But if one is working with nurses educated in North America, it's prudent to be aware of the reality. That said, I'm extremely grateful for you videos!
@elverdad68053 жыл бұрын
@@rebeccabradford7611 Very. And the "nursing system" doesn't get any better once you're working. I really wish there was a way of warning doctors. But thank you for your wonderful channel!
