10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Playing Stranded Deep (Tutorial)

I share 10 things that I didn't know before playing Stranded Deep. The game can be a little frustrating at first when you're figuring things out. Hopefully, after watching this video you can expedite that process and stop just surviving and start thriving! (*EDIT You cannot save the game on your raft since the new update! Also, please note: I am playing Stranded Deep on PC and some things are different on the PC version than the Console version!)

Yeah. I got up to level 6 as I saw in another video and still wasn't getting full resources back. Having to wait till I'm full before deconstructing my starter raft as I don't want to waste the 100's of sticks I used to make it.

@@stuartc6303 Yeah, just be wary of raft deconstruction. Hopefully they fixed it in a patch, but even at high level sometimes that stuff is lost.

you use potatoes because you can ferment it to make ethanol which is a type of fuel be it not the most effective or efficient but still combustible.

Well in real life you don't get sunburned in 10 minutes or get diarrhea from eating 2 coconut halves and die from dehydration a few minutes later. You don't also get sick and die from eating too much fish.

@@davidulmer9774 I agree, That's why I feel it personally necessary to take every measure I can to bring myself more in depth with the world I'm trying to experience. I get sun blisters quite easily, but it's only after about 40 minutes of consistent sun exposure with no shade. I can even feel when it starts to happen because the sun begins to feel 'extra hot' on my skin in some areas. I love the game though, another game I really like his Rimworld, and that is in big things to the modding community. I would love if this modding community had more to offer. I know it sounds silly but I wouldn't mind building a rustic gun from salvaged gun parts.

I don’t know if this is always the case, but generally - if I’m looking for clay, I first look for those half barrel things that are typically right at the shoreline. If I go out into the water in the direction it is “pointing”, I usually find clay deposits. It’s a good place to start, at any rate, rather than swimming out into shark infested waters to search blindly.

@@AnUnlikelyHero i got a massive glitch exploit if your interested lol for whatever reason theres a glitch in my island where i jave a container ship and the containers on it respawn.. and do it inside themselves. As of right now i have like 25 full containers inside 1 and it keeps growing 😆 Its great for ppl like me who cant use creative or cgeat or anything like that. Go infinite doors and alls!! Woot!!

No 9 was fixed. You cannot use the bed on the raft since the last update! btw. another thing that many beginners do not know: you can break damaged doors which you cannot open with your axe or something similar

Another good idea is putting your sail on a boat in a way that makes it push against the rudder and drive inverted so you can see where you are going

The music for sharks can bug out. I have been swimming around and a shark attacked me out nowhere. I was really annoyed since I recall thinking about there was no music. Still it does not happen all the time. And this was on PS4. Great video by the way 🙂

I don't think it's common in big brands, but potatoes can be used to create the alcohol content of vodka. So I guess the "science" of the still is that it converts the potatoes into some good ol' combustible alcohol.

I don’t understand the cartography menu. What does megalodon mean? Why are some red? Why can’t I ever look at a map in game?

The Meg is one of the 3 bosses you need to fight to beat the game. The cartography system is tough because you can’t see yourself on the map. You have to first find out where you are and then use the compass to navigate. I have complaints about this that I bring up in one of my other videos.

You will NOT always get your ingredients back when you deconstruct something you've built. It depends on your crafting level. Often one ore more items is lost.

Not being rude or anything but when you said about the bed you were on sand and I tried that and I was in the middle of the ocean it didn’t work and said to do ether of them (save or sleep) I have to be near land so if it worked you were near land.

Hey every one. Potatoes are used to make alcohol like vodka. If alcohol is distilled the a high enough proof it makes fuel. ethanol/fuel. It’s just fuel really. So it does make sense to use potatoes as fuel. Because other than corn. It makes good fuel.

@@AnUnlikelyHero You could "technically" do it. Alcohol apparently has a similar chemical make up as ethanol. You can look it up on here, a lot of old vehicles can run off of strong alcohol. Nowadays? I doubt these new cars would be able to function properly. But yes, there was a time you could do this in real life.

@@AnUnlikelyHero It’s such a frustrating system because you find all these valuable materials like tyres, barrels, planks and corrugated steel the first two of which you can’t even carry in your inventory and they’re all pretty rare, so since it wouldn’t be a simple task transporting them to a new island I just stacked things on as I went along, but I eventually found my raft to be horribly balanced or something because it wouldn’t steer but just veer off to the right all the time. So I dismantled what it would allow me to to, (only getting 50% of the material back) to try and refine the whole setup but it wouldn’t let me dismantle a whole chunk of it because they’re “Supporting each other”, so I basically had to end up letting a raft consisting of one barrel base, two buoy bases and a tyre base float away. It’s really annoying that you can’t dismantle everything to put it back together how you want.

Damn, that's frustrating. They're a little bit more rare than some other plants, but just keep checking different islands and you'll eventually find one. And you only need one to start a huge potato farm. :)
