Refried beans are not just "leftover" beans. They're made usually using bacon lard and pinto beans with other seasonings as preferred. Darren is right in saying they are delicious and are a perfect pairing w/Spanish rice, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guac, and your choice of enchilada, chimichanga, or other main dish item. Cilantro, fresh onions, queso, and good salsa set these dishes in their own league. 👍👍

Right, none of us pretend that Tex-Mex is like food in Mexico, and not even vaguely like West Coast Mexican. A fiend born and raised in a small town in Mexico cooks food similar to Tex-Mex though. Kinda sucks living in the Pacific North West now because it's rare to find good Texas BBQ and most places don't offer things like beef ribs. Or if they do, it's one day a week. Also I like to make my own refried beans because I like it a bit more chunky than what you'd get at restaurants. But it can go with so many things. And yeah when he said breakfast tacos, drool. They have some great ones in Cali too but I feel like a breakfast burrito is more common there. (Unironically the best one I've had was at a gas station.)

Re-fried beans Can be made from left over beans BUT, usually aren't. Pressure cook the bean with seasonings, mash the beans and let it cool down. Place in containers and cool overnight in the walk-in fridge (so the flavor develops), bring out the next day. Put in a large pan on the gas stove, add just a little water, and start warming - have to add some oil from the taco meat that you have cooked, Pan up the beans and eat within a few hours with red sauce and grated cheese on top.

Refried beans are not an after thought or made from left overs. They are a staple food and can be found to accompany many meals much like rice in other cultures including Mexican rice. Also, being from southern California I will judge any restaurant on how they prepare their refried beans. I can tell if they are from a can or homemade from scratch and if you can't give me authentic beans then I have no use for anything else you have to offer. I may be a snob about it but I have also grown up around it. Growing up and having my friends mama's spending all day in the kitchen to prepare beautiful family meals. They lifted my expectations.

Texas girl here. To say Texans love their football is something anyone outside the state simply cannot grasp. Taking it serious is mildly stating just how serious. High school football? Big, big, big deal. Several years ago my high school was having their 40 year reunion. It’s a weekend long event. Well, for that one, those who planned the activities did not include a Friday night football game of our Alma mater. My 10th grade boyfriend was so pissed he boycotted for that fact alone despite really looking forward to it. So yeah, our football games are a big big deal in Texas!

Lot of BBQ places in Texas serve the meat on a kind of platter covered with butcher paper. Saves wash up time after the meal, you just wad up the paper and toss it in the bin.

Texarkana to Chicago is only a few miles less at 792.2 miles, which would take 11 hours and 29 minutes to get to. the driving distance between California to El Paso is 806 miles. I do 85 up and down 45. Everyone used to haul ass before all these people moved out here. They don't seem to understand that the left lane is for passing. Always kind of been a problem but definitely gotten worse.

Of course Texans love football, but other sports are also very popular as well. You have baseball Fanatics, hockey Fanatics, and basketball fanatics. Auto racing is also huge here. We also have professional soccer here. And the newest sport you hear about here is Major League cricket!

Hey Office Blokes, As a New Jersey resident, I can totally relate to having pride in my state, and I appreciate everything the Garden State has to offer. Watching your reaction to “10 Things That Shock Texas Tourists” reminded me that every American state has its unique charm and pride. It’s what I love about this country-diversity and individuality in every corner. Cheers to exploring the quirks and charms of each state.

Daz if you are in Philly for a day or two you should really check out a Flyers game. It's a great experience. NHL season will be in full swing by then. Flyers have one of the best fan bases in the NHL.

Texas has more square miles than France. My father, in the days before technology was part of most everyone's work place, put fifty-thousand miles a year on his company car. No accidents.

I live in Arlington and have for decades and a few things this Wolters character didn't cover. Texas is the only state that has it's own power grid. Which means we are not under Biden's boot when it comes to energy. DFW with a population of 8-9 million has the third largest airport, in the world. Houston's port is the 4th largest deep water port and there is plenty of oil production. We don't need the rest of the US. The lone star is incorporated into every pro teams logo. We are the only state that the state flag is NOT subservient to the US flag. They can be flown at the same height and even on top. When you hear.....bless your heart, the translation is F you. We have no state income tax or a DemoRat Governor since the younger Bush became Gov decades ago. Please and thank you, yes sir and yes ma'am are mandatory. English, Spanish and TexMex are the languages.

Except for the grid Biden is not to blame for power failures more like our terrible governor

yeah. Our electric grid is fantastic here in Texas. Brownouts all summer long from CPS here in the San Antonio area. total blackouts with winter westher. Shitty power grid. Sucks. And the tax burden is way more here with the huge property taxes compared to when I was in the military in many other states. Use facts. There’s a reason why Texas isn’t high on the list of states to retire. High taxes that wipe out no state income tax. Lived here all my life but reality is based on facts. Many people who feel this way haven’t lived in any other states.
@Robert-lb5st4 ай бұрын
Yes English Spanish and Tex-Mex are definitely the languages. But thanks to our bought and sold governor that gets into the pockets of any entity that benefits him,fk the taxpayers is his mentality
@jwashburn67684 ай бұрын
Please feel free to move out of Texas. I have NOT experienced brownouts all summer long. We had one issue in February of 2021. The storm hit the entire state, which had never happened before, nor since. Fixes to the grid have been made. As far as property taxes go, yes, they are high, but we do not have state income tax. Most states have both.

That's just bread. Texas Toast is buttered and toasted and extra thick. You normally get it with chicken fried steak or a steak finger basket at Dairy Queen.
