They would appreciatively ooh and ahh over technical aspects of grappling. More intriguing match making in non-championship fights. 10 minute rounds allowed technical grapplers more time to develop their position to finish. Flexibility in rules that allowed rule changes as mutually agreed by the fighters. Gym rivalry was higher. Chute Boxe vs BTT vs Hammer House vs Grabaka vs Gracie vs Russian Top Team vs ATT...etc. Traditional bell to start and end a round and not the air horn. Fighters handed a big check in the ring and a medal and/or trophy. More consistent refereeing. Im sure that I’m missing some.

From how i always view it , Pride was basicaly real/shoot version of pro wrestling(with some exeptences like worked Takada fights) , so it had presents of pro wrestling : cool music , awesome walkouts , big man vs little man , etc. - all acolites of wrestling , while Danas UFC was mostly moddeled by boxing , sins Dana was boxing promouter before mma , and not a big fan of flashy "wrestling style" showmanship - so basicaly its compleatly 2 different psycologys behind both products(well at least how i always thoutgh about it), and farther more , lets not forget that mma was born from pro wrestling in Japan so its only natural to have those atrebutes (early versions of mma like pancrase even had rope breaks)

I agree but I don’t think deducting a fighters pay is a good idea. That’s people’s livelihoods you’re talking about. They already have to worry about losing money due to weight cutting let alone that.

Pride has basically just become the nostalgic thing in MMA that long time fans use to be douchebags to newer fans. This list is an excellent example of this. It’s easy to remember the good and forget the bad when something dies.

Fans at Pride events were more educated (and respectful) in all aspects of MMA than the majority of UFC fans at the time. Pride fans understood the subtleties of grappling and submission set ups. More than a few seconds stall while grappling would be met with "Booos" by many in the audience at UFC events.

Alot of good here but missed a few things! 1) the ref cams! being able to see exactly what the ref is, close up, amazing 2) longer rounds, too many times people get saved by the bell, along with the fact that it is more realistic to a natural fight, no stopping 3) to elaborate on tournaments a bit more, i completely agree with you/prefer tournaments but one other reason why they are good is it gives the fights no knowledge of exactly who they will be fighting- quite often fighters these days will be told who they are going to fight months in advance, and now with the tech that was not available in the 90's/early 00's, they can study their opponents to a degree that all attacks become negated- punches blocked/takedowns stuffed, creating a boring fight. 4) stopping to recenter in the middle. BJJ, wrestling, and other styles of grappling, are not designed to be done with you back against a wall or corner; those styles of fighting are slightly stifled (IMO) in the cage, creating a sub-type of style (learning to grapple with your back in the wall) found only in cage fighting. 5) to continue on your topic of gear/fighter wear, BJJ, Karate, Judo, and other styles actually require/prefer to wear Gi's or wrestlers wearing shoes ect, the whole point of PrideFC and MMA was to show / prove which style of fighting (or combo of them) was superior. Forcing the fighters to wear regulated shorts/no shoes is good in a way it is safer and more uniform- but it takes away from the authenticity of the style of fighting, again just IMO. 6) the fans - simply put, they were pretty quite unless action was happening; but i agree with the rest. 7) the commentors- Bas Ruten, alone- was amazing, but Quadros, Ranallo and Trigg were also nice- the point here is that Bas Ruten was a successful fighter himself at the time, and had/has knowledge of fight styles/be able to identify what the fighters are doing. Joe Rogan began training in MMA (recreationally) after becoming a commentator for the UFC - so he can do the same. 8) the diversification of the fighters - I could be technically incorrect here, and outside of the fact that pride never (to my knowledge) had female fighters-but it just feels like PRIDE had a more diverse roster of fighters 9) no elbows to the face- you mentioned this but wanted to quickly elaborate, elbows are very sharp and very easily create cuts, and only sometimes create knockouts, alot of great UFC fights have had to be stopped due to cuts/bleeding- obvs they are not possible to avoid all together but eliminating elbows to the face def help 10) BUSHIDO FIGHTS- you touched on this but fights between tournaments, and the random matchups - gave the fighters (esp the ones who lost the tournys) a chance to continue to earn money relatively soon after being eliminated from the tourny. and providing us with more fights =) I'm sure there are lots of other things but love PRIDE, havent thoughtn about it in a while ! lol
