There's definitely some in the Regional scene if you're willing to search for them. Freakshow fights still happen and if we have "Eddie Hall vs 2 flyweights" or "overweight dude vs 3 women" fights im certain you can find pretty much anything

This was my MMA golden era. UFC ppvs,we, dream and strikeforce events were stacked. The final happened at dynamite 2009, the new year's eve event. I remember waking at 4 am to watch a 240p stream. Worth it.

I think they realized they could get a lot more revenue by tickling fights out one at a time with a bunch of filler in between. The weight divisions are so controlled by backroom deals at this point as well. I agree with you, but I think it will be an outsider promotion before UFC goes back to this format.

Yes, for a charity boxing match in which Jose was paid 5000$... but the bout didn't even happen because when Ozzie Canseco walked-in to the ring (super late, by the way), several onlookers pointed out that he didn't have Jose's tattoos, so beer cans started flying toward the twin who had to be evacuated by the cops. Ozzie didn't even bother to get fake tattoos, and José just had a couple of smallish tats on his biceps, nothing that a body-artist couldn't easily replicate.

Great video, would of loved to see Gegard be fit to carry on as I think him vs Minowa would have been a great match to watch. Also to note is how loud the crowd got when Minowa got a hold of his opponents and celebrated submissions and grappling. The Japanese crowd fully appreciated the skillset of the fighters they were watching.

The scenario you laid out in the beginning is literally what happened to me walking into my parents house to check on it when i was 22. And it was the first time i actually respected MMA (ironically, i know). As i couldn't get it out of my head that Minowaman beat Hong Man Choi, then took the whole thing. It was running on an old school janky channel 600 level tv box my dad had where old pay per views would run, but occasionally they'd put up boxing and mma fights a few months after the event. so i didn't watch it live or anything, but it was so g'damn epic i stayed there by myself and watched the whole thing while drinkin my dad's beer. hahaha.
