I agree with nine of the ten things to check, also the rising damp farce. Nice to see you point that out. I'm not so sure about gypsum plaster etc not being able to breathe, what is breathing. Vapour still passes through these products and with correct ventilation and humidity levels, ie dew point temps etc, all is good. Most problems are caused from bridging and condensation on cold spots. Great vid though.

I recently visited a building with the worst case of damp and black mold, the landlord was convinced it was the old condensation by habitation, usually i get that or they think its rising damp. It literally had all of the above, lime building with cement render and covered in some rubber paint, inside there was 30mm thick plaster, no ventilation anywhere and then the cherry on the top the council relaid all the paths that high the full streets air bricks are now halfway covered in tarmac and every time it rains every building becomes a drain 👌

Hi Paul, love the content and I will eventually do a training course with you. For now just hopeful you can provide some nuggets on an issue…. My fathers 1930’s property always had damp to a point water would gather underneath the hollow floor boards recently he got some builders to build an extension and do renovation work. They have poured concrete over the crawl space but not sure how or what they’ve done to ensure ventilation. On top of that the property has now had insulated rendering on the outside. The damp seems to have slowed down or completely stopped but could you give me any pointers or any potential ticking time bombs…. Greatly appreciated pal

Hi Paul, could you say heating pipes running along side a cold wall could cause rising damp?
@PaulTinkerMakeMOREprofit11 күн бұрын
it wont cause rising damp - but it could present symptoms to you that may appear to be and get labelled as rising damp.

@@PaulTinkerMakeMOREprofit Thanks Paul. short back story! Covid Lock down, someone used Polish plaster over normal plaster i believe! which has since been skimmed over again with normal finishing plaster! 1930s property with double brick! Could this be a case that small box room is unable to breath? Thanks again! any advance is welcome! Starting to wonder if lime plaster would work best for this room!

@ sounds like this could be an issue yes - obviously I’m making lots of guesses here based on what you’ve typed but in short yes this could be the cause

White chalky powder in the attic on the internal bare bricks. Does this indicate damp within the house ? Mid-terrace house built around 1890

Absolutely not - hard to give definitive diagnosis without seeing it - first thing you should check if it’s attic is the guttering and pointing
