Chris, a big thank you for making this video! It should be a MUST for any new Studio One home recording studio musician. I was pleasantly surprised that you not only covered the basics, you also discussed setting up buses, including their purpose, how they interact with non-bus channels, as well as presenting a comprehensive example. This was previously foreign to me, being a complete newbie. I just began my home recording studio journey, including Studio One, a little over two weeks ago. Between reading Jeff Strong's excellent book, "Home Recording for Dummies," doing Pro Audio EXP's fantastic Studio One 5 video course (which I'm still working on), watching your "10 Things To Do BEFORE You Hit Record in Studio One" YT video as well as several of Joe Gilder's YT and other YT videos, combined with my limited-to-date hands-on exploration and use of Studio One, the fear/overwhelming factor is gone! I've acquired a ton of knowledge in a short period of time. Although I have a TON to learn which will take time, hands-on experience, and patience with creating, editing, mixing, and producing songs in Studio One, I feel like I'm off to a great start!

Hi, one thing I experienced with the beep for the metronome is first, I would render a track. It would usually render what ever time you have between your Start and End marker on your time line. Then after having a track of the rendered metronome, then I Gain Stage it and EQ it. Hope that help. Shout out from San Jose, CA (Bay Area)

Don't take this the wrong way, but I appreciate that you speak in a manner that works quite well at double speed, which is how I like to get thru videos more efficiently, and frankly that does not apply to as many speakers as you might think!

I use an presonus studio live 24 mixer as suggested by Joe Gilder. No latency issues thus far. But I need to still learn about studio one.

THanks for doing this tutorial. Do you know if exporting the session for pro tools if it will also export the folders properly for laying it out that way in pro tools? (i know there is a format for that and theres a YT tutorial on it where imports everything with timeline placement into pro tools without needing to export trackouts. But I just dont know if the same will happen with folders. Also whats unclear here is when opening a template and renaming are you renaming the template or the new session? And does the new session store files in a new folder?
@heychrisgreen

Okay let me see… moving between DAWs is usually pretty messy. I have only gone from S1 to Pro Tools on one session. Ended up just exporting Stems and starting a mix from scratch. I do not think the folders will transfer over. The Templates in S1 are added to a song’s folder destination.. so if you’re creating a new song: Title the song, Select the songs directory, and then it will ask if you want to use a template. The templates are added to the new song. If you use a template on any session and hit Save it will save the session but not the template. To update your template file I am only aware of using the save as new template option and give your new template the same name as the older one.. there should be a folder (most likely in your My Documents > Studio One) for all of the “User Templates” or “My Templates” Think of the templates like you do plugins.. I hope that’s helpful and not confusing 😅

@@heychrisgreen ok thanks for clarifying! On the studio one to pro tools, just commit all tracks and midi instruments to audio save as an AAF with all specified parameters and then pro tools will import the session with all audio in correct places on the timeline and with accurate meters and everything. Marcus Huyskens music on YT has a good video on this.

I have 4 keyboards, Vox, a vintage Juno, DX7, contempo organ. I can’t get the sound to be loud enough to get a good signal when I’m recording my keyboard. Is there a particular way of setting it up in Studio One? My interface is Zoom L-12
@heychrisgreen
@heychrisgreen 8 ай бұрын
Hmmm… are you using any of the Hi-Z inputs on your interface? Sometimes there’s a switch for mic or line level signals.. start from the source, check volume levels, then the gain on your interface.. studio one is only going to help you with post processing for this kind of issue.. you can use the Mix Tool plugin in studio one to boost the gain but that won’t help for recording.. look for those hi impedance inputs and check your gain levels first
@paulahardin3420
@paulahardin3420 8 ай бұрын
@@heychrisgreen I’m not using Hi-Z inputs, don’t even know what that is. We adjusted gain, volume levels. We don’t have midi, is that necessary when recording an external keyboard> I’m still a beginner but I just need to find someone who can tell me exactly how to set this up to get a good sound. One video said to select external instruments and then another place for instruments.

is the mix bus and Master bus different or the same
@heychrisgreen
@heychrisgreen 4 ай бұрын
Great question! I wouldn’t consider them to be different but I keep them separate. I don’t put any plugins on the Main bus unless it’s a metering plugin

Is Studio One awesome for producer ?
@heychrisgreen
@heychrisgreen 5 ай бұрын
I think it’s great but you have lots of options out there for producing. If you’re comfortable using one already, I don’t see the need to switch to a new platform. Logic would probably be most familiar and common to people making music with a lot of loops and beats. Ableton Live is great for loops and live track playing, not so much for multitrack recording. Pro Tools is going to be expensive with their subscription based plans but it’s “the gold standard” All the ones I’ve mentioned already I have owned and used for at least 6 months of time. I think Studio One is the most well-rounded solution. Good luck with your endeavors! 😁

Help. I don't have the option of adjusting block size or latency. What could be the problem?
@heychrisgreen
@heychrisgreen 18 сағат бұрын
Hmmm… what audio interface do you use? Sometimes devices like the RME Babyface have to be adjusted with their own software and not within Studio One.. if you have a Presonus brand of interface the options should definitely be available within any project

@heychrisgreen I bought the PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 Studio Ultimate Bundle - 25th Anniversary Edition from zzounds about a year ago and I'm just now unboxing and setting everything up. I've watched multiple videos now and for some reason I can't get things going. One thing I did notice was that some of the options that are available to you and other creators are darkened on my setup and unavailable for me to adjust. Could it be my computer? It's a laptop but it's a gaming laptop. It has a graphics card and a lot of storage

Dude, you lost me at 6. I can't get my menus to look like yours no matter what I try. I am about ready to chuck this thing and buy a new electric guitar rig and start a friggin band. At least the conflict will be part of the creative process, not some computer BS that is hindering any creativity. I don't need controversy and conflict from my computer.
