Very good video to learn fast the essential. Was though a bit surprised you didn't apply a bit of reverb on snare and voices.

Thanks for watching!! In retrospect, it would have been nice to add some reverb 😅 the “recording your first song” series is mostly just showing people how to get up and running in Studio One, but maybe in the next one I’ll go with more fx!

Ver helpful. Any advice if one to get a decent electric guitar plugged directly into an interface that is noisier than RME? Strymon essentially gave a sufficiently hot signal to record. Thanks.

Sorry I’m not sure what you’re asking for but if you’re looking for a good audio interface I always recommend something very affordable like the Audiobox or Scarlett 2i2 at first, then when you have saved up a good chunk of change you should look for a used UAD Apollo or something from RME if you can. There’s a ton of interfaces that will be cheap but that’s not always a good thing and the quality across the board is very similar at the low prices

This is really helpful. I actually started my journey with making music in 2015 ( i bought studio one pro back then) but to be honest, i havent really gotten into it because it seemed too overwhelming. But I recently felt really inspired and motivated to actually make music and record. And theese sort of beginner videos cover alot of the stuff ive felt unsure of. Just a question, what level (dB) should I aim for when recording guitar? Im planning on running my Zoom multi-fx straight into my interface and use that pedal as my amp sim and for other effects as well. Does that seem like a decent way of recording?
@heychrisgreen

That sounds great! Just make sure you’re not clipping your signal. I always say aim for -18. On Studio One they have input meters that will show what’s coming in. Anything between -24 and -12 is good. You can always increase the volume later. Using pedals and amp sims like you’ve got you can get away with recording louder signals because they’re very consistent

@@heychrisgreenAwesome! So I the signal shouldnt be hotter than -12db going into studio one? And which end do I gain stage, do I set the Zoom pedal amp sim as loud as -12 or do I adjust the input gain on my scarlett interface? :) Maybe it doesnt matter which way?
@heychrisgreen
@heychrisgreen 4 ай бұрын
@@MikaelKonradsson Depends on which you prefer. My AudioBox USB interface has a lot of noise if I turn it up too much. Each preamp will have its own noise floor so if you turn up the Zoom first and keep your interface low, that should be fine. If you hear any noise, then turn up the interface and turn down the zoom thing 😁

This was great. I need to ditch Acid Pro10.

Oh wow! Blast from the past I don’t know Acid Pro was still a thing 😅 my wife had that on her laptop back in the day.. you go with what you’ll be most comfortable using! Studio One does have a free version that has limited functionality but it’d be a good way to try it out.. look for Studio One Prime

@heychrisgreen Clearly the plugin with S.1. are superior to Acid. I'll look into the limited version. Thanks for your videos and the reply.
