One thing, most *today* do not see anymore... _(old)_ Ænglish is actuel a *German dialect.* German: Ich habe hunger Ænglish: I have hunger Swabian: I hann hungr _"Swabian"_ is a south german dialect, one of 20 main dialects with several SubDialects. "England" was founded mainly by 2 german germanic tribes, from *Schlesswig Holstein* > Angels tribe & Saxon tribe > Nieder- *Sachsen.* As we can see at: I vs Ich Saxon vs Sachsen > in germanic, there was NO ch, but regular *"h"* which was spoken as *"x".* So: Ih or Ix spoken. English left the x away, same as _"Swabian"_ did. Other dialects switched the x sound with smt similar ending like in east-germany with *Ik or Ike* instead ich. The "k" ending sounds similar to x at the start sounds.

Once again a very nice video. Glad you like it in Germany. You have addressed the issue of houses. In Germany, an average of 430,000 properties are inherited every year. Of course, that only makes sense if the houses stand the test of time. I live in a rented apartment in a house built in 1891 with triple-glazed windows and 60cm thick walls. In Germany, by the way, there are between 30 and 60 tornadoes every year, last year on May 20 alone 3 in North Rhine-Westphalia with caused damages of more than 200 million Euros. They are not as huge as in the USA and that is exactly why you should not build these cardboard houses in the USA.

Was it point 8? the brick walls are sturdy AF here, true. so to hang things, depending on how large and heavy they are you either use a (stone!) drill and dowels and screws for heavy load or special steel nails which won't bend when you hammer them into the brick walls to hang lighter things.

Like your video! One tip for hanging (lighter) things to the wall: use steel nails (they look blue-ish, usually); they don't bent when hammered into the wall. For heavier things use a drill machine, matching screw anchor and screw.

Love how you become to appreciate things that might have thrown you of at first (like clean public restrooms although you have to pay). I've alway been against lowering our standards regarding food regulations just to be able to trade more with the US. Very often we've been called anti-American or pretentious for clinging on to our standards, but hearing time and time again how our food and even convenience food is much better I am glad and at the same time concerned for people in the US. And isn't it great how there is no need for an air-condition circulating the same old air when the buildings are build properly? 😉 I myself have bought two fans which I only get out the attic for the few really really hot days we have during the summer.

Nice to see how much you enjoy it here. To install things use an electric Drill with hammer funktion (Bohrmaschine mit Hammerschlag in Ger). The Drill for stone is called "Videa Bohrer" and for normal things 5 - 6 mm is ok. Take a "Dübel" and stick it in the whole. and use a screw in the same sice. I personal use a Drill with a Diamant Tip (Bohrer mit Diamantspitze). Its more presize and most of the time no "Hammerfunktion" is needed. Cost a bit more (15 - 20 €) but its totaly worth it esp if you are not that skilled. That s the way to install something in the concret walls.Hope it will help you to enjoy Germany just a little bit more.

You have to drill a hole in the stone wall with a drill and insert a dowel and then screw in a screw if you want to hang heavy things like cupboards and for light things like pictures, steel nails that you hammer into the wall are enough, just make sure that no water pipes or electrical cables are laid there. I enjoy watching your videos, I'm new to them and now see our critical attitude as Germans to ourselves from a different perspective, because you find some things more pleasant than we do ourselves. If you want to hang things up you have to drill a hole in the stone wall with a stone drill designed for this purpose. Oh yes, you should have a hammer drill for this. Dowels then go into the holes where you can then screw in your screws. But be careful when drilling, there could be electrical cables or even drainage pipes or even water pipes in the wall.If you want to have a German house in the USA, then get German craftsmen who know about it and work cleaner. If you take a closer look at the details, you will notice that German craftsmen work cleaner and of higher quality. There is also the possibility of ordering German windows from a German manufacturer in Germany after measuring the windows and door openings, having them manufactured and shipped with German craftsmen because installing German windows requires knowledge of the mechanics of these products as well as professional installation methods. Blinds, i.e. the panels If you let them go down in front of the window in the room, you can order them at the same time because they have to be made to measure. Always remember that the blind box also needs space above the window, which means that the ceiling height also has to be right. Get a German architect to help you with this.

Hanging up things (f.e. pictures) on german walls is kinda tricky. First you need to know if there are electric wires or water pipes in the wall and where they exactly are. In most cases you will need to drill holes in the wall and use dowl (Dübel) to screw hooks or whatever in the holes you drilled. But the kind of dowel you need to use depends on the wall and it´s construction. So you better ask your landlord what kinda walls you are dealing with and where there are elctric wires or waterpipes. ;-) May you also like the short ways to get to your favorite grocery store, or to visit one of the many beautiful neighbour contries. Our streets are narrow what you might don´t like so much sometimes and parking area is allways in short supply...

Standards are that cables run in straight lines parallel to wall edges and probaly within 100 mm of edge ( don't know exact German standards ), same kind of thing with pipes if they are cast within wall. You shouldn't find a pipe or cable if you are hanging pictures in normal places. Unrealistic to expect your landlord to know this unless they actually built the place themself.

Regarding weather its a simple thing, NO AC therefore no dry air inside and the step outside is much easier. In addition the brick walls regulate the humidity inside to a certain level. Always have in mind that wherever you live in Germany things are different, very regional. Allthough Germany is only 3 times bigger than Alabama it has dozends of different regions with own culture and local standards.

You might have to go back, after the honeymoon period wears off and a tourist becomes a resident, you start noticing the ugly sides too, like extremely high taxes (you pay most of your income to taxes), officious and extremely bureaucratic state, everything tends to be more expensive (you won't be able to buy a house, only a small percentage of Germans can afford their own house, because everything is so solid means that building costs are a lot higher too and you don't have an option to do it cheaper, because the state forces you to build expensive). Cars are also a lot more expensive to buy and maintain, there is this thing called the TüV which will harass you for every little detail about your car, they regularly check the car and if you fail the test, you have to fix it the (expensive) way they force you to or you can't drive your car anymore, that is very expensive because these bureaucrats are all powerfuil and they can pretty much do whatever they want, ah yes, and you pay them with your high taxes to make your life difficult. There is no such thing in the US and I'm so glad about it, I spend thousands in unnecessary maintenance in Germany. Another thing about freedom: Germany is not the land of the free, but the Land of the VERBOTEN, you will notice that Germans love millions of laws that restrict them in everything they do and they will love to tell you when something is "VERBOTEN!!!!" and that you are a horrible person for even wanting to do something that obviously everybody else has decided that you MUST NOT DO, like shop on Sundays, where all shops will be closed. Or paying draconian import taxes on everything that you ship from outside the country, you will have to pay every time you receive packages, the government wants money for everything you do (the high taxes seem to not be enough) There is actually a good reason why people have been immigrating to the USA for 100 years and Germany has not been an immigrant destination, but a place where most immigrants came from.

But I would prefer if we adopt the traffic lights positioning like in the US, placing them on the other side is just so much better. And for hanging stuff it depends on the type of wall: for brick walls hammering hooks work just fine but if you have conqurete walls you need an impact drill and use the hammer function, also some brick walls might require using an impact drill and getting conqurete drill heads dosn´t hurt either.

Just do not forget that the taxes built in prices are like 21%. Also, building a house in Germany is way more expensive than in the USA. I am a German living in the United States and very happy living in my well maintained 200 year old house on Lake Ontario, that must have been confronted with hundreds of lake effect snow storms and all sorts of weather. One of the things that are worse in Germany, even if the bathrooms are better: You can't just go to any restaurant or public place to go to the bathroom, most businesses are very unfriendly and will harass you unless you are a customer. That means you might have no place to go, because all restaurants want to make it hard for you. This is especially annoying since most supermarkets (like Aldi or Lidl) do not have bathrooms and there is no law that mandates it, so now you have to stop shopping and find a bathroom in the neighborhood, all business that don't want to let you use their bathroom. In the US, you can go anywhere, even if you are not a customer, they don't bother you, because everybody has to go, it is a much more friendly culture there.

Look for the “Nice Toilet” sign, there is also an app. By the way, a toilet is not a bathroom. So ask if you can use the toilet, don't ask for the bathroom! I've never had any problems.

Most "electric" cars in Germany are hybrids, not fully electric. They often falsely claim that they have the highest share of BEVs in Germany, but just cheat by using putting hybrids in the same statistic, but hybrid are obviously internal combustion engine cars.

Wir meckern auf einem hohen Niveau in Deutschland. Auch in Thailand habe ich gemerkt zur Coronazeit als der Tourismus ausblieb, daß sehr viel weniger Hilfen gezahlt werden. Es gab 300€ Hilfe und viele konnten damit nicht ihre Miete zahlen. Wir zahlen Bürgergeld das in Thailand ein mittelständisches Gehalt wäre. Aber es geht auch besser in der Welt. Kleine Länder wie Luxemburg zbs.

The reason we can calculate the tax is into our prices in Germany, is that the VAT is set on the national level. In the US every state has their own VATs. Calculating the VAT into the prices in the US, would result in customers not being able to differentiate if the prices set by store are actually cheap or expensive. Especially on state borders customers would get the impression of a Store having much higher prices when in fact only the vat of the state is higher. That would be no fair competition and not in the interest of the store.

So you have not been even a whole year in Germany? I used to live in Germany many decades and trust me, you will find out some nasty stuff about Germany that you won't like at all, one of them is that you WILL NEVER EVER be a native, you won't be accepted as Germans, you will stay an "Ausländer" a really nasty term in Germany for outsider, outlander. Integration of foreigners is not big in Europe, Germany is not an immigrant country and you will notice this. I have seen quite a few Americans want to live in Europe, judging from their experiences as tourists that then after staying for years just never got accepted like in the USA and then left Germany again. Americans will always take everything for granted that they had in the US, not realizing that Europe is a totally different animal and many freedoms that you use to have will not be available. One of them you will be amazed is how high the taxes are, especially when you earn more than the minimum.

In the freedom indexes, the USA is at best midfield, behind European countries like Germany. Also in the Democracy Index (USA incomplete democracy). More Americans are coming than ever before. And there are lots of US in Germany channels.
