As a visual learner this was great. I struggle to actually make glazes and seeing seeing how opacity sits on the white is a great reference. I've been over watering so it won't stick properly but seems thin enough. That'll change now hipefully

I made the change from water to medium and liked it a lot more. It was easier for me to get fixed consistency with the ratios. Only downside is that not all brands are created equally and not all mediums and paint mix together well. When in doubt, use the paints brand of mediums for there stuff. I have heard a lot of KZbinrs say medium is just medium and does not matter but it does. The wrong medium will completely change the consistency of the paint.

The title isn't click bait if it's true. I was completely shocked by your brush licking lol. But really awesome video and thanks for calling out a common trap people fall for all the time. As someone who has multiple paint lines I work from, having people not realizing each one requires different amounts of thinning to work right just drives me nuts. So I really appreciated you throwing that in while explaining the do's and don'ts. Keep up the awesome videos.

The only issue I have with this type of thinning on the wet palette (which I agree is better) is where I live is hot so the air con is on a lot and the dry cool air dries the thinned paint quickly even on the wet palette.

My biggest mistake that I need to adjust is using those cheese pallets with bowls. They are only ment to hold a few ml of paint but there is no surface area to drag out the paint and control how thin it goes. Pretty much an all or nothing. Other than that I love the 4 thinned side by sides as this gives us a very nice visual of what we mean by thin, to glaze

Hello, I have a two part question for you, what board material are you using to thin your paints down on and do you have any issues of getting the right consistency and then having your paint dry out? I could see this thinning technique for an individual model of high detail but what if you're trying to paint an entire unit of say 16-25 troops? Thank you.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
For the first one, that's why you use a wet palette and for the second one, I still thin down paint in the same way, it's just more efficient and less wasteful.

It's the old one but with the new paper, which is essentially the same. Best palette in the market IMO

Hey Juan, did you 3d print that top piece for your painting handle and if so would you be willing to share? I use the rgg painting handle as well, but that top you use looks really nice to use and also provide a nice larger surface for bigger bases.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I did but RGG asked me not to share it and as they are a good sponsor I decided not to, sorry but it's super simple to design one.

Here is a man who gets his pallet paper for free. :P I'm one of, I'm sure, thousands of people who try to get into model painting Who was never really around anybody who knew what they were doing and had to learn everything from the internet and from videos. If you're in that position and someone can't show you what you're looking for learning how to properly thin your paints is the single most frustrating thing about the entire hobby. "Skim milk..." Very helpful. This video would have been nice to have about 12 years ago.

Sometimes in your videos you add matt medium to the water you use to thin your paints, but here you just used water. When would you want to add medium when thinning?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
Usually when the colour you are thinning as a lot of white. The most white it has the more the medium is needed.
