As the writer of most of the Ernest movies, Coke Sams said many original scripts all over Hollywood would be given to him and he would re-write them as Ernest movies instead. This was how Ernest Saves Christmas got made as the script was some original movie about Santa retiring, and the original writer of the script was told Disney were making his story into an Ernest one. Of course, Sams would pass on it, and we ended up with Ernest Goes to Camp (1987) instead.

Yeah, but what a year for Jim Carrey in 1994. I think 1994 through 1997, at least in the early to mid 1990s, were the best years for Jim Carrey, at least that’s my opinion. After LIAR LIAR, I sorta lost interest in Jim Carrey’s movies. I tried to watch but I couldn’t get into THE TRUMAN SHOW. I admit MAN ON THE MOON was interesting. And I definitely like ME, MYSELF, AND IRENE, as well as BRUCE ALMIGHTY. But the other films I couldn’t get into. Maybe I wanted him to act as those silly, quirky characters like he had before. But I know he wanted to venture and expand his acting talents, and probably most of all he didn’t want to be typecast as that particular kind of character. I remember really wanting to watch THE NUMBER 23 when it was advertised. But for some reason I hadn’t. Perhaps because I heard reviews that it wasn’t good. I still haven’t watched DUMB AND DUMBER TO.... Yes, he returned to the character of Lloyd Christmas. But for me I think it was 20 years too late. Had he did that one 10 years earlier(in 2004), then yeah, I definitely would have watched that one. I don’t know.... Perhaps one day I will see that movie.

Physical comedy is pretty polarizing. People usually either love it and hate it. Jerry Lewis, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Rowan Atkinson, Don Knotts, and The Three Stooges all come to mind.

Ace Ventura was my skit in 6th grade at my middle school's talent show and I won! Here in the South, we LOVED the movie and When Nature Calls too... To this day both movies are very quotable and I still watch them. Thank you Jim Carrey for bringing this character to life and into my life. It helped a shy dark skinned girl gain confidence and friends too...

If rottentomatoes existed back then, so many kids would have been deprived of this hilarious classic.
@beauwalker98203 жыл бұрын
Rotten Tomatoes hates everything, so honestly I don't think most people listen to them even today. Even Minty said even back in the 90s critics hated it, so we shouldn't always listen to critics. (My middle aged Dad back then loved it meanwhile, so critics saying it only appeals to the young is bumpkis)
@DavidCommini3 жыл бұрын
@@beauwalker9820, I use Rotten Tomatoes to find movies to watch based off of terrible critic scores, but favorable audience scores. So far I've found some good movies. When the critic score is high, but audience score low, the movie sucks. When both scores agree the movie can vary. This is all IMHO

The 3rd one premiered on Cartoon Network and I watched it out of sheer objective curiosity and while it’s not great, its also not as bad as people make it out to be. After all it was made by the same people and it definitely had it’s moments that made me laugh out loud. Not on par with Carrey, but the kid held his own.

My love for Cannibal Corpse came from this movie. I remember in middle school, my teacher put this on when she was too lazy to teach us. As soon as I heard those 5 notes I started headbanging and everyone was starring at me like "... Dafuq?". I love both Ace Ventura movies, couldn't really get into the animated series. I didn't even hesitate to look at Ace Ventura Jr. Thanks for the vid, Minty!

What a banner year Jim Carrey had in 1994! *Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,* *The Mask,* and *Dumb & Dumber* came out in quick succession and all were huge hits. In fact, *Dumb & Dumber* was the sixth highest-grossing film of the year, *The Mask* was #9, and *Ace Ventura* was #17. So, he had two movies in the Top 10 and three in the Top 20. And to think he had been relatively unknown the previous year.
