@scypsylock94023 жыл бұрын
You can still see the dining room from the street, and the door by the driveway is still there and can still see original decor from inside of the door. The strange part of this is why they need fifty cameras pointing to both the street and the inside of their house through the windows. I took a trip there recently and lost count after 50 when counting the cameras. I did not want to disturb the owner as she walked inside her house, but having those cameras is not for just making sure no one camps in your yard, or through the windows...though at one point people were camping out wanting to know what was really going on decades ago. To know whether the events truly happened, or not, is not up for debate, but what happened inside there in the early 70's was pretty horrific with the DeFao's.

@@Lily_of_the_Forest the was a tv doc that aired on A&E in the early 2000s and I think the true story of the family murders is equally as scary as the the horror book and movie. Apparently The family were going through family struggles. The oldest son(and murderer) Ron Defeo was given a ultimam by his father. He either got a job and his shit together or he had to GTFO. He was badly into drugs and partying and had ZERO motivation in life. The night of the murders people said he had been at the bar the whole night and was wasted on both drugs and alcohol when he left. When he returned to his home he methodically got ahold of a shot gun and one by one took his entire family out. What's really disturbing about it in my opinion is. I get the anger towards his father bc they had been at each other's throats for a while but why would he take out his brothers and sisters???? They had no say so in the situation but none the less he took them out too. What's really scary is we've all been in the situation of being caught in the middle of family sparring. But to get murdered in your sleep by your big brother, the one who's supposed to be a protector. It creeps me out. You truly cannot trust anyone.
@danielwilliams51393 жыл бұрын
@Helping Heroes Hatzidakis He didn't want to involve his sister because she passed away, he did an interview last year and aired in April or May. Ronald "Butch" Defeo Jr. said they both wanted to shoot their father for being abusive and didn't want to shoot until their mother heard something in the hall and told Defeo Sr. and Defeo Jr. took the rifle and shot his father maybe their mother too but he then says he wanted to go for a walk for a couple of hours to decide what happened and what story to tell the police. He went back to the house with Daisy? Defeo still alive, their youngest sister and both brothers all dead and Daisy? Defeo was in her room with the rifle and "Butch" Defeo Jr. tried to take the rifle back and during the scuffle, he accidentally shot his sister point blank. Cops and forensics said she was found at the front of the door with a close gunshot wound to her head but then the cops decided that she was murdered in cold blood by her brother.

Great overview Minty! I don't know how much if any of the story was true, but I do believe that something must have happened. If only because the Lutzs didn't just move out, but fled the house, never even going back to reclaim their personal possessions. That's an awful big commitment to a scam. And it's not like the Lutzs got rich of this. Their lawyer and Jay Anson did. My understanding is that the money they made didn't even make up what they lost abandoning their new home. On the other hand, I've also heard that they were indeed deeply in debt from buying the house and maybe felt desperate enough to be THAT committed. We may never know.

I was born and raised on Long Island, in Babylon, which is 10 minutes from Amityville. As a youngster, whenever family came to visit from the Bronx, Brooklyn, or Westchester, they would always request a spin around the Amityville Horror house for a good scare. I've seen that house on 108 Ocean Avenue so many times, it felt as though I lived there. The new owners replaced the arched windows with square ones, so it doesn't look quite the same. The arched windows really gave it a foreboding appeal. It's funny how that one detail can have such an impact on the overall feeling of the home, which is nothing more than the usual, pristine Dutch colonial one would find in an upscale neighborhood. There's really nothing unusual or creepy about it, other than being a murder house that was broadcast into infamy.

That was such a great movie. That's really why those movies were so much scarier than the vast majority of horror films, because the filmmakers were making the best movie they could make, not just trying to make the scariest movie they could make. If the genre is horror, a great movie is going to be scary by default. The problem with most “Haunted House” stories is that, in most cases, the haunting does not repeat. It seems to need a certain set of circumstances and people and some hauntings are just a series of random events because of special conditions at the site. I think SOMETHING happened to the Lutz Family in Amityville, but probably not as spectacular as depicted and they, for whatever reason, wanted out and they used occurring random supernatural events as the reason. I have been through several incidents that were pretty hard to explain and can tell you that looking back, I can see why people would scoff but I did investigate quite well and failed to find any reasonable explanation for the events and they seldom repeated and never regularly and when new people were introduced, sometimes incidents would occur and sometimes not.

While in college, I was the Feature writer for the university paper. Two of the parapsychologists that were present in the house, Ed and Lorrain Warren, were giving an extensive lecture and I was the reporter that interviewed them. I stayed with them for nearly 24 hours. They were extremely nice and the most interesting people to date to me. To add to this, the lecture scared the hell out of me. I will never forget them. Please note: The Warren's are the parapsychologists of the Conjuring movies.

I find the exorcist one part boring and two parts slapstick with goo. Amityville Horror with the the family falling apart is more scary.
@redfaux743 жыл бұрын
The Exorcist was about 13 years earlier. The Exorcist was also based on a true story. The documentary was scary also. 3 of the actual priests were in it. And it was only the mother and daughter being ripped apart. Cute family being raped by the devil. Much more story in the Exorcist. Doubting priest with a dying mother.... The entire WORLD voted the Exorcist as number 1 scariest movie.

This was filmed a couple towns away from me. The house is still there. The library isn’t as far from the house as it’s depicted. It’s literally down the road from it. Also the bridge they filmed actually goes to Seaside Heights, which is in the opposite direction of the library. Also, the rectory they were at is Georgian University, which is in Lakewood, a few towns north of Toms River, NJ, where it was filmed. The bar George goes to was at a hotel that is no longer there. It’s now a parking lot.

...Glad ya mentioned about them changing the address. Jeah... very true. A couple of us went up there one night back in 2006ish (from South Jersey) found the Street but could not find the house. We were a bit pissed. It had to have been maybe 9-10pm and luckily there were neighbors walking the sidewalk and we asked, they were younger, and told us we were looking at it. So we did find it, just... address was changed, looked nothing like the house, there are no woods, the street is literally 10 feet away? It did have water in the back though, but those "Windows" were nowhere to be found. It was cool to atleast see the house. It was nice fn house too, the whole street was very luxurious. But, can atleast check it off the bucket list! Keep up the great work homie!
