The scene where Clarice finishes telling her story about the lambs and Hannibal says "Thank you, Clarice" as a tear falls down his face. Incredible!
@lukaskolisek22083 жыл бұрын
From all possible actors Minty mentioned I think only Dustin Hoffmann would be able to pull it of and I can imagine him as Lecter. Well, maybe DeNiro in his calm and cold mode but it would be about 70% of Hopkins' or possible Hoffmann's portrayal. As for Al Pacino, he wouldn't fit at all because his screen presence is something like a bomb even when calm while Lecter's presence is more akin to poisonous gas with no smell - you have several minutes (or hours at best) left before you die and you don't even know it.
@DonMachado3 жыл бұрын
I love everything about this movie, almost. If you have read the book, you'll know that the meaning behind "the silence of the lambs" is never once addressed in the movie. Pretty much everything happened as she described, but she went on to say that all at once the lambs stopped screaming and grew quiet, as if giving up hope and becoming resigned to their fate. It was the silence of the lambs that affected her so profoundly. I wish that had been included because it really defines who Clarice is and gives context to the title that otherwise has none.

@largol33t13 жыл бұрын
The resemblance is purely coincidence. Gillian Anderson was cast as Scully because of her background in theater and the creator Chris Carter thought she would portray Scully the way he wanted. I guess their hairstyles and the personalities of the two make them appear similar.
@TheRealNormanBates3 жыл бұрын
@@largol33t1 I’m not too sure about that. It’s not insulting to consider there are multiple shows that were derived off of films: *Star Trek* was derived from *Forbidden Planet,* down to the misunderstood villain, the use of logic to talk the villain into submission and even the “ego, super ego and id” trio (though in *ST* they switched the logical doctor Ostram and emotional second officer Jerry around) *Miami Vice* is essentially *Scarface: the TV show,* only with the focus reversed (while retaining the style and music) So the idea of *The X-Files* taking Clarice and pairing her up with essentially the child of Kolchak (the Night Stalker) or the dad from *Close Encounters* isn’t too far fetched. Also keep in mind that Chris Carter couldn’t say *The X-Files* was inspired by *SotL* without getting Fox sued.

I find it so strange that these two incredibly different films were nominated for the same award. Sometimes I feel like the best animated feature category cheats the nominated and winning films out of the best over all film. There have been years where two or even three of the nominated animated films are better than the nominated and winner films for Best Picture. I do love Silence of the Lambs though. I love this film. Saw it on opening weekend and solidified my love for movies. I’m a horror fan but horror is rarely even acclaimed like this film. It manage to be a high art topnotch production but also to be gruesome and scary. Not unlike Alien a decade before. To this day I try and watch it each year. Its just somehow never ever boring. No matter how many times I have seen it. One of the very best. Great post.

I would guess farther back in his past, maybe in school he played some baseball. Got a hell of a pitching arm.

I`m so glad you gave a shout out to Ted`s performance as Buffalo Bill. I love Dr. Lector but I wish people would talk about Bill more. I was honestly way more afraid of him.

This movie was very good. But, it was the first movie I watched that so disturbed me, I swore I would never attempt to watch it again. As good as you are as a presenter, I was able to watch your first one minute and six seconds and I had to cut away for my own well being. But I did give you a thumbs up.

I went on a Hannibal binge a bit ago. The Hannibal show, all the movies. If you watch Manhunter, Red Dragon and the TV show you will see that they all basically are the same, right down to the dialog. Check it out once.

Correction: Dykes Simmons was not the inspiration for Hannibal Lecter. According to Harris, Lecter was inspired by one of Simmons's fellow prisoners, Dr. Alfredo Trevino. Harris was at the prison to interview Simmons and spoke with Trevino in order to get more details on injuries that Simmons sustained during an escape attempt. Trevino asked Harris a series of probing questions regarding how he felt about Simmons and provided his own insight into Simmons's psyche. At first, Harris assumed Trevino was simply the prison's physician but was later told that Trevino himself was also a murderer and was insane. Many years later, Harris used aspects of his experience with Dr. Trevino to create, with obvious embellishments, the character of Dr. Lecter. Harris doesn't say so but Simmons seems to have partly inspired the character of Francis Dolarhyde (AKA the Tooth Fairy AKA the Red Dragon) from 'Red Dragon.'

“I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.” Great line from Silence of the Lambs everyone knows. But most people don’t realise Dr Hannibal Lecter is making a medical joke. Lecter could be treated with drugs called monoamine oxidase inhibitors - MAOIs. As a psychiatrist, Lecter knows this. The three things you can’t eat with MAOIs? Liver, beans, wine. Lecter is a) cracking a joke for his own amusement, and b) saying he’s not taking his meds.

"Hello Clarice." "A census taker once tried to test me, I ate his liver with a nice chianti." Just 2 of the most famous lines utterred on film. The movie is also the most spoofed and copied. The movie was a big monster hit aswell as a huge oscar winner in 1991.

@lukaskolisek22083 жыл бұрын
@@garrettbays6942 You must never forget the beans. It makes you look like an alcoholic who drinks chianti all the time. But the good thing is Dr. Lecter probably wouldn't like to eat your liver thinking he'd crush all his teeth on that rock solid piece.

Here's some more cool facts! The actress who played the victim in the well (Brooke Smith, who played Catherine Martin) gained 25 pounds to help land herself this role. (Very underrated performance, btw) The cocoon removed from the dead victim's mouth was made of Tootsie Rolls and Gummy Bears so it could be swallowed safely in case it fell down the actress' throat. That famous "Fava beans and Chianti" line was ad-libbed by Hopkins. It was a joke regarding how people who take MAOI medication should avoid foods Chianti wine, beans _and_ liver! Hopkins is a genius, knowing that Hannibal would have knowledge of psychiatric medications.
